I have been trying to set up Apple Watch cellular with EE today and it has been an unmitigated disaster. And I am not alone. There are endless technical and administrative problems and no staff - except at the operations level which I finally managed to make contact with - have been trained on anything pertaining to the functioning of the Watch.

Anyone holding out for O2 I wouldn't. O2 made a massive mistake in not investing in the technology to run e-sim around 2 years ago. EE have years of development ahead of everyone else. If O2 decide to jump on the e-sim I would guess its at least 1 year maybe 2 years away.

The fact they have NO date tells you. They have been caught out like many other service providers. Its got nothing to do with EE and Exclusive deal with Apple. Its the fact they can do it and nobody else in the UK current can

I know someone who works at O2 and advised the board to look at this technology and they said they couldn't afford it...I wonder if they regard that now

Yep read the issues on here and on the EE community forums. Very few people have managed a successful connect to LTE. Apparently its a nightmare that is a reality and EE dont know how to fix it. They are blaming Apple and Apple are blaming them

This is Apple’s fault. We expect **** service from carriers. That’s always been the case. Apple are in a position to fix that.

Instead each year the carriers mess up everything from fulfilling preorders to delivering cell service and Apple lets them get away with it.

I would love to see them throw their weight around a bit more.

Presumably it's not working because EE only connects Apple Watch when there's 4G and when is there ever 4G service anywhere.

I have 4G where I am right now and have done what I needed to with the Watch App (Signing up with EE).
Says could take 30 minutes or longer to activate on watch and I did it about 45 mins ago.
Not something I need right away, so will leave it for a few days.
Will keep this post updated.........

I haven't been able to 4g working either. EE's customer services have zero idea what they are doing. My watch was stuck on activating for about 20 minutes. After that I rebooted the Watch and it did seem to connect, but can't use the data and can't make or receive calls. Just diverts to my voicemail.

I didn't even get my EE pre-order delivery. I received a text the night before launch telling me my delivery has been held up due to a delivery delay from the manufacturer. As of yet no other update.

The entire ordering process was a nightmare as well - I got quoted a loyalty price of £39 for the Stainless Steel, I obviously agreed, then got cut off, after reconnecting she told me she made a mistake and it was £129... Still cheaper than the £159 I was expecting it to be so I agreed again. After being passed to the manager to take payment he explained I was given incorrect pricing and it would be in fact £159 upfront. I'm annoyed at this point and argue my case but they weren't going to budge so I agreed to buy it at that price... I was going to buy it anyway before they called.

I checked my bank statement and they took £160.

Now the delay and no LTE connectivity.

The launch has been a mess... Probably not EE fault, they won't have had enough time to properly train staff, this will be on Apple rushing things out the door.

Well well well, managed to get it working successfully, just received a call. Pretty impressive actually. The speaking is a million times better than my series 0 and the mic's are insane. She could hear me perfectly when my arm was down by the side of me.

Sounds like EE!

And it is their fault. Because Apple tell them what they’re going to deliver. EE just have no way of actually allocating the stock. I heard they took 5000 preorders for 2000 devices in stock. They have no way of not overselling. Because their system is old and not fit for purpose.

EE has its network going for them... but that’s it.

Hmm interesting. I’ve currently got what I thought was a great deal from O2 (£20 for 20Gb) but can get the 22GB deal for £18 (I have a mifi with them so 10% second line discount plus my employer offers a 20% discount code and the online website allows it). I would miss priority (Neros free hot drink on a Tuesday is great) but networks are much of a muchness to me...

Happy to confirm I got my AW3 Cellular to activate no problem. Took a few minutes and might have been helped by me going upstairs to get a stronger 4G signal. The process to enable mobile date was trivial.

In fact, so far the most difficult part of my migration from Three to EE was the 30 minutes on the phone trying to get a PAC code from Three. The staff were very nice but it took much longer than I believe was necessary just to get a PAC code.

I went from a £15/m all-you-can-eat plan with Three to a £26/m 22GB plan with EE but I also got the £70 cash back with topcashback so it’s not so bad. I could have used the £21/m 18GB plan but I’m planning to go to Canada next year so the North American roaming might be useful. I’ve got 6x £5 on top of the above but I’m pretty confident that EE are the only operator with the 4G coverage required to work with the Apple Watch at this point.

Heck! I’ve got a phone on my wrist for a few extra dollars a month! :D

EE SIM arrived yesterday, completed the number porting form, number ported today, activated watch straight away with no trouble. All in all, an absolutely seamless process.

Santander (123) are doing £50 cashback on EE new direct debit.

Not sure if it'll stack with £70 from tcb.

Never done cashback before, hope it works - I'll be paying £1 less than I was with Three.

Edit: Found it! Seems like it’s an automatic thing.

Details please. I’m with Santander.
Just in their regular internet banking app, login, menu on top right, my offers, offers, find the EE one. I think all you do is "read it" so it goes green, then it should apply once you meet the condition. I think.

I assume it's all over internet banking too but can't check that right now.

Trundling o/t but I’ve noticed the Santander cash machines have contactless for their cards (I asked a friendly member of staff) - do these work with Apple Pay? I still have to get cash out regularly for a car park meter that’s stuck in the dark ages...

Unfortunately not. From santander.co.uk:
