More profit than Exxon? I think they're doing okay. Yes, we all want to know about their products ASAP, but no, I don't see the argument for it hurting Apple.
Wrong. They are now listed as the number 1 profiting company. They beat Exxon out. They have more avalable cash the the US government. Yes it hurts them big time.![]()
Apple is a company that has built up such a high image of their products. They don't need to release leaks because the speculation of not knowing anything leaves people wanting more.:
Wrong.
Apple is the most valuable company in the stock market. They are DEFINTIELY not the most profitable. Two completely different things.
Walmart takes the profit cake every single year by a LONG margin.
This a million times over.
When companies leak to early, people get excited, then they lose interest because once the product they have been waiting for is released it seems "old" since they've been reading about it and know everything about it already.
Apple keeps everything secret and once they announce it, its available immediately (or close to immediately) and people get excited, they rush out and buy the product, and Apple makes money off of the excited people. Once those people show their friends the cool product, word spreads.
This strategy has worked for Apple for a long time.
You guys are big koolaid drinkers when it comes to Apple. Once again i say BS, there were several pictures of the first iPhone well before it was released.
Keep it secret? Have you ever heard of Macworld where they tell you whats new and coming in the near future. Just so happens Apple stopped doing Macworld a couple years ago for whatever reason. Maybe they are going to do something else but c-mon.....if your buying "Apple does everything secret", then your just living in a dream world where only Apple exists and nothing else and for some reason you are happily content with that.
Look at Walmarts revenue. It's in the 400 billions. Apple doesn't come close to that.LONG margin? Apple made $14.0 billion in 2010. Walmart made $14.3 billion.
Q1 2011
AAPL $6.0 billion
WMT $6.1 billion
Q2 2011
AAPL $7.3 billion
WMT $3.4 billion

I have no idea whether Apple is the most profitable public company, but they currently beat Walmart.
I never said they keep everything secret. They are just more secretive than other companies when it comes to their products. I'm not saying they've always done this (and maybe this wasn't the case in the past), but currently this is how they are.

I don't care so much about every detail or even images about the product being 'leaked'. I would just like some info on a projected release date. If it's soon, I'll wait it out to at least see what the new hardware has in store.
If it's to be released alongside iOS 5 this 'Fall', let us know. That's still vague enough where they can have delays and not look foolish by missing a projected date. And on the flip side, if they have no intention of getting new hardware to the public before, say, 2012...let us know.
That's not too much to ask. And while it won't be enough to hurt their bottom line, they will lose customers who are still using the 3G/s and need to update asap.
Maybe YOU didnt but somebody did that i quoted. I honestly dont care if they are being secret or not but the reasons posters are saying they are being secret is funny. I mean c-mon, the new phone will have the same OS you all have been using for two months now. How secret is that? The face of the iPhone will most likely look the same as it always does and if your lucky you will have a bigger screen. IMO it would be a disapointment if it isnt bigger and you never know, Apple is slow to give people what they want
It seems to piss a lot of people off that they keep things so secret all the time. All other companies show pics (or leaks) of their products well before the release. I would think that they would at least do a silent leak of the iPhone 5 to try and deter people from switching platforms or buying the new Droids or Blackberry's that are coming out at this time. Anyone else have the same thoughts?
What else could they change? Yeah we all want the face to change on our phones every couple months like teh awsum Droidz. And same OS we have been using for 2 months, who are you talking about because im sure as hell 99.999999999% of iPhone users havent been using it. Put down the Samsung Kool-Aid bro and leave the iPhone forum, your annoying.

Well think about it, if they werent as secretive the other manufactures would copy them even faster than they do now. When they hold there events it's on the news for god sakes, then about an hour later it's on there site. It gives enupf hype for the general public, us techies and gives the copy cats no time to rebound. Every rumor and leak just get us more hyped anyway. They probably figure they will lose more buisness if they get copied than just being secretive.

Maybe they pulled out because Steve was/is very frail and he wanted to be the one on stage showing off everything like he always did along with some of his colleagues. Who knows, but they havent always been keeping things a secret.
I'm sorry but by using the term "kool-aid drinkers" you just effectively showed your lack of maturity.
Learn about marketing and sales. Hype is one of the best things a company can hope for with a product and Apple is a master at hype. Thats not even opinion.
