2) at 1:41, isn't that I.E 8? I thought it was suppose to be an Android device? How is it able to run I.E. 8? Is there something about Android and Windows I didn't know about?

You're right! But for some reason an Android notification window pops up in the browser for wifi... hmmmm :)

What is really sad

ASUS is the company which makes low-cost and good quality motherboards and netBooks.

What is really sad, is that all of a sudden they feel compelled to take on Nokia, RIM, LG, Samsung, HTC and Apple - to make a "better" product.

Either they are really foolish - or really desperate that their core market (netBooks and moBos') is melting away like ice cream in July. Or maybe booth ?

Yeah, the outro looks like they used the exact same font that Apple uses.

But I think it was funnier that they copied Apple's eerily still hand holding the device :D

They are not trying to be like Apple...

... in my view, they've got one up on Apple w/the Padfone.

Despite the slightly weird presentation, I don't see anyone else come up with this way of bridging the phone and tablet.

What's the Point?

You have got to be kidding me. Why would you want to carry around a big screen and your phone so that you could see your phone screen on a larger screen? It is the same as carrying around a phone and a tablet. Like someone else says, unless the screen is really cheap, it will fail.

Guy looks like he is running a magic show. A very bad magic show.

That presentation was a lot more exciting then any Apple presentation I have ever seen.

At least the Padfone is a more unique idea compared to the MBA-clone;
but also the presentation style showed once again: the original is just better; SJ give still be more reliable presentation; not as so "wired" as this one from ASUS chairman. Or this guy needs lees coffee

Well, apple got their start copying from Xerox PARC's mouse and gui. I'm not sure how I feel about the padfone, but I'll give the guy credit for trying to spice up the presentation.
The CEO kinda sounds like my dad, so I can't hate on the accent. :D

Netbooks are pretty new in the grand scheme of things, I'd hardly say built itself on netbooks. Key for expanding? Yes, but they were a big played in Asian markets before this.

Expanding to call out the big players is the next logical step. More so considering that Nokia, LG, Samsung, and HTC are all using software products that Asus can use(Android and Windows Phone for mobile plus Android and Windows for tablets)

Seriously, this is gawd awful.

ASUS should stick to motherboards.

Asus makes much more than motherboards and net books. They currently make the most reliable laptops out of the largest 8 computer companies in the world.(yes it doea include Apple) they have great moniters and video cards. Thier line of R.O.G. Products is unmatched.

For the person who remarked about asus not having money, you may not believe it but ssus makes roughly 30% of all computer motherboards including motherboards found in apple, dell and hp computers. Asus is much larger then many if you think.

HP has the right idea with the TouchPad and Pre phone touchstone syncing.

http://www.palm.com/us/products/pads/touchpad/index.html

Hope Apple adds similar "transition" capabilities to iOS to sync between iPhone and iPad. Inductive charging is slick too.

*Note by HP I mean ex-Apple employees ;)

I think ASUS is on to something, the pad and the phone experience SHOULD be connected and I think going forward will be more and more. Slapping your phone inside of your tablet isn't the best solution though. In fact, it's a little silly.

sorry.. i dont understand why even put the phone inside the pad...
why not just use a watch as a phone and tethering to a pad???

I was at Best Buy not long ago, and I saw an Asus laptop for the first time. They do look very Apple-like for not being an Apple product (backlit keyboard, etc.). But of course, they certainly weren't built like a Mac.

The one I looked at was a 17-inch, and it was still cheaper than the 13" MacBook Pro! :D

ASUS have made laptops for years. They've always been very solid. It's the PC laptop brand that I recommend if people don't want to go Mac.

Stop trying too hard, Asus .. you're a reputable company for PC hardware, please don't make another clown show and end-up on another lawsuit between you and Apple

Asus R.O.G. Laptops are some of the best gaming pcs on the market.
And backlit keyboards is not an apple thing but rather a highend computer thing. Because most morons compare their highend macs (apple really only makes high end computers) to a budget pc the highend features begin to look more and more like an apple thing. The problem is asus laptops are mid to high end most consumers ignore high end pc completely and buy macs instead of looking at the comparible pc options.

Example if you compare a bmw to a ford then say bmw us better then all american car makers you are not looking at the rest of the competition. But if you compare that bmw to a cadilac thats an entirely different story.

I'm genuinely having trouble believing this is real. if it is though, that advertising company needs to let some staff go...

They may be trying to copy Apple, but misses one thing that very few people have (Steve has that): Charisma!

<3 Asus

Probably not going to make many friends here but I don't really care.... I ******** love ASUS. I have been using their motherboards to build computers since back when they *only* made motherboards. That was nearly 15 years ago. Their PC components have always been--for the most part--among the best you can buy. And they were among the first companies to develop and then cater to an enthusiast market (which they largely developed by themselves) at a time when other companies didn't seem to "get" that consumers had easy, deep pockets for sexy products.... sound familiar?

I'm not going to turn this into an Apple vs. ASUS. I'm just going to ask that you give respect where its due. I applaud their efforts to diversify their catalog of offerings and cut into the smart phone/tablet market. I just wish they tried harder.

Yes this product is pretty goofy and very much a misstep. It will not be successful here in the USA. And of course they need to hire an American PR as well as an American advertising firm to sell stuff properly to Americans because--well--we are just that arrogant & racist. I mean... cause nobody who speaks "Engrish" as as second language could possibly be intelligent much less qualified to speak about their own products, right?

And before you get the wrong idea. I <3 Apple too. I live in a household where the three of us each have our own iPhones & iPads. So there. Hate me now anyways.
