iPhone XS Max Is battery % coming back in iOS 13 and iPhone 11 or is it gone forever?

Will they bring it back this year, when the notch goes away or never?

I think its gone forever. I got over it pretty quick anyway..... I glance at the battery icon... if its 3/4 full I know I have about 75% if its half full I know I have about 50% if its a 1/4 I know I have 25%....... at 20% iOS warns me..... Therefore I have no need to know the exact percentage at all times.

I don't really understand the need for an always-visible percentage. Seems to me like it would lead to battery anxiety more than anything. Having the battery represented by an icon and then being able to pull down on the Control Center for an exact percentage is a much more elegant solution than jamming more info into the status bar.

Sure was for me. Turning off the battery % resulted in me being able to enjoy my phone a LOT more. Same for my iPad. I've seen quite a few other posters say the same thing.

The battery on my Xs easily lasts me all day, so seeing the percentage doesn’t really bother me anymore.

On older iPhones I used to check the percentage all the time.. I don’t want to go back to that lol :p

I never had battery% turned on since it’s first introduction to the iOS. Also I feel it’s a bit redundant to have it displayed on the screen, on widget, and/or control center. I know it does display it when you bring down the control center but I never felt the need to see where my battery is. I do have battery widget so I’ll just swipe to the right to see where it’s at once in a while. But I typically don’t go below 40%.

No need for a percentage. Just enjoy your phone and stop worrying about the battery ticking down.
OR the users could choose for themselves, since some of us like the percentage.

It only went away because of the physical space eaten by the notch. I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t come back once the notch is gone.

It's available in iOS, you just need an iPhone 8 or older.

I'm still swimming along splendidly with my iPhone 6s (although I've had the battery percentage turned off for years anyhow).

Price of needing to have the latest tech, I'm afraid. :p

I bet we'll get it back after the notchless phones come in, which I would guess to be 2020, or iOS 14.

While yes they could leave it out because it's no longer necessary, it's pretty much a fact that they removed it because there wasn't enough space with the addition of the notch. Therefore I'd expect it to come back, even though it's not necessary.

I check it 10 times a day and tired of swiping for it. And I bet Apple employees are for sure on forums..

Well no, probably not worth betting on. Per Apples contract agreement when you are employed under them, they cannot frequent tech forums during their employment tenure, and they do have ways of checking to see if the employee is participating in tech sites like this. So I’m going to believe it’s not worth losing someones job over in that regard to discuss a ‘battery percentage’.

An iPhone without a battery charge % display is the same as the fuel gauge on all cars; a rough estimate based on where the needle is pointing. The battery percentage was obviously axed because there's no room to show it with the notch hogging all the space and likely  is happy with the end result, just like car manufacturers are with their fuel gauges.

Who said they had to participate? I bet any amount of money that Apple employees read this forum all the time. You don’t need to register or participate to read what is said here.

This is probably why they are getting rid of it; the anxiety and folks constantly showing up at the Apple store over it.

“But my phone is broken! It went from 45% to 43%, it skipped 44%!!!” or “It lasted a really long time on 56%, and then only just a minute or two at 55%!!!”

Now no one will be able to freak out over the estimations. I betcha that’s why.

I see no reason why they wouldn't bring it back to the home screen once the notch is gone since it's not really gone now, just not visible without a pull down. It's hiding now, not gone.

No reason not to give users the option really...maybe apple way of saying not to obsess of it i guess.

That’s how Apple is. Sometimes they don’t always provide options that we want, the thing is, the battery percentage is primarily been predominant an iPhone for years, but the iPod sixth generation never displayed the battery percentage either, only on the home screen when you were charging the iPod. If I really want to know my battery percentage, I can just ask Siri hands-free. Problem solved.

Wow, I still have an iPhone 8 and I had no idea the Notch phones didn't show the %. I absolutely rely on that constantly. You can call it anxiety, I call it awareness.

I guess I just don't understand the need to be "aware" down to the exact percent on a constant basis. Maybe it's just my use case, but I can pretty much tell from the icon where I'm at battery wise, down to maybe within 10% or so. Heck, being able to eyeball my battery level to within 25% or so is enough information to tell me if I should charge or not in a given scenario, given expected usage and how long it's going to be before I can charge again.

Are you spending most of your days charging several times, cutting it very close to running out of battery, and needing to strategically plan out your charging/usage times in case you miss an opportunity to charge? Legitimate question, because that's really the only scenario where I can realistically see needing to have a down-to-the-percent indicator.
