I can’t measure now but wondering if the DI when not doing anything is bigger than the notch on the 13 Pro was?

If so seem a little counter productive. Couldn’t Apple have put it in same place and size and let it do what it does now as DI?

Just not sure how better it is now that it’s floating, at least the notch was up top and out of way, now the screen above the DI is pointless.

Still bring used to it tbh, not sure if (when not doing anything) it’s more noticeable than notch was. Overall I like what it does when active, just personally think it should have stayed on the top.

I thought this since I first seen pictures. You lose more vertical space with the dynamic island since the little sliver of screen above it is basically useless.

I’m loving it-not intrusive at all. Looking forward to what 3rd party apps will do with it.

The DI doesn’t bother me. As far as it being higher up there may some reason design wise or technical they didn’t have it higher. Who knows.

They may have experimented with a dynamic notch and maybe it didn’t look right to them.

I wasn’t sold on the original notch until I got the XS Max. I got used to it quickly. Coming up on week 2 with the 14 PM I’m used to the DI and being a tech head as soon as I saw the DI in action at the Apple Event I knew I was going to get a Pro.

I know the goal is all screen. When they get I don’t know. I’ve heard rumors that it will be iPhone 16.

Didn’t take you people long to find something to complain about. Sad when there are so many other options out there with no obstruction on the screen, you still get a iPhone and just complain about it instead of going to something that addresses your issues you have.

The new implementation is fine.. perfect? No.. but it’s not a notch that everyone hated.

Yes, it’s literally more in-your-face especially as it is meant to be interacted with. The notch was true invisible design as it faded into the rest of the bezel (perhaps after an adjustment period). The pill island (I think I’ll just call it ‘Ibiza’) is a loud, gaudy gimmick.

It’s Apple doing what they do best: subconsciously gaslighting and greasing-up its user base for The Next Big Thing™, the iPhone 16 Ultra with under-screen FaceID/TrueDepth Camera so that when it comes to fruition you all fork over your thousands without blinking.

So everyone can complain about how the front facing camera photo quality is not as good now?

Again, someone will always find a reason to be unhappy. Just use the damn phone and that’s it.

It’s still a notch though, just lower with a couple of millimetres of gap above it. I don’t use a phone with the DI as I’ve only just upgraded to a 13 PM. It’ll be at least 2 years before I need to think about adjusting to the floating notch.

It’s different, and that’s nice.

Adapt and adjust. Not sure what else’s to tell you man.
I'm not complaining, I'm just giving an opinion.

As I said, I'm 50/50 on it, as in mainly neutral. I don't see it as better or worse overall.
There are things I like more about it, and worse, so it basically cancels itself out.

It’s true that the Island takes up more space when using full-screen content, but remember that the notch comes with a few pixels of dead status bar space right beneath it before an app’s UI begins, which evens it out with the bottom of the Island. Could someone with a 14 Pro check whether that space still exists on the Island? Is it doesn’t, then for regular non-full screen content the Island and notch are even.

They need to give us the option to turn on the extra pixels that are blacked out between the camera / face id modules. I get they want seamless and it works with DI, but to make up for the lower "pill" it maybe help. Also, those pixels could simply turn back off when a DI animation happens.

I mean they let some stupid reddit app make some DI pet thing, just give us the extra pixels.

Didn’t complain made a comment for discussion. I was wondering why it had moved down, as to me it’s dead space above the DI, whereas notch was as much as they could be out of the way.

To me it seems to stick out more when watching something full screen, I’ve true notch where it was at extreme edge. Maybe get more used to itv

I wanted an iPhone, I’ll buy what I want thanks, was going to upgrade DI or not anyway.

“Everyone hated the notch” did they? I’d have a notch or DI all day to get faceID as great. Until, as others have said, technically they can bring all screen with faceID and/or touchID under the screen.

No, you don’t really notice it as it sits at the top in the space that’s not used for anything, at least now it’s actually usable and doesn’t get in the way at all, I think it’s fab.

You screenshot his comment and blackout his name, yet his comment is right above yours. What’s the point? 🥴

Because I didn’t have permission from the user so I just quickly scribbled it out, what’s the issue?

The screenshot was to show the DI sitting inside the top bar that until now was unusable.
