I think Family Guy is one of those television shows that people either love or loathe.

So the poll is pretty straightforward: is Family Guy funny or annoying?

(If you don't think it's either and really don't care, why are you reading this?)

I think it's both, at times it's funny, at times it's annoying, that episode of South Park where Cartman tries to get Family Guy pulled off the air is funny, because they talk bad about Family Guy, but also look at it from the other perspective and talk bad about South Park.

Edit-Can we add a third option to the poll for both?

it's funny most of the time but there are times where it gets annoying. It can go way over the top sometimes. I mean there is a peak between funny and disturbing and they cross it at times.

The early family guy is brilliant. However the later series have turned somewhat down hill relying on prolonged family guy comedy sketches.

Like others have said - it's both. Sometimes it's hilarious, and sometimes it tries a little TOO hard, and becomes annoying.

But man, when it hits the right chord, I never laugh so hard. Heh! :)

I love the Rhode Island in-jokes. :D

agreed - as a RI resident that part of the show continues to make me laugh. i thought the 1st season was hilarious and it went downhill to me from there; i found the comic timing of the non-sequiturs to be way off and that lessened the humor.

i have gotten to spend some time with seth macfarlane (we are both RISD alumni) and he is a great guy - it makes me like the show more than i probably should.

I think the first few seasons were funnier. Thats not to say the newer ones aren't, but they aren't as funny. They seem to trying too hard sometimes and start to get annoying... going way over the top... beyond being funny.

Both...I think Seasons 1-3 were hilarious, anything after that is hit or miss at best. Some of the stuff they've released in the last few years has been complete crap, not even funny just stupid. As someone else said below, a lot of the sketches that are prolonged just for the sake of it get annoying, plus the musical bits (Prom-night dumpster baby, 'Sha-boopy' or whatever it was from the NE Patriots episode, etc.), and the creepy old pedophile guy (sorry, his name escapes me) that seems to be on EVERY episode lately...just not funny after a while.

Still, every show has at least something that makes me laugh -- I still watch it. American Dad has the edge though...way funnier than anything they've done on Family Guy the last few years.

I like it, I'm not super mad keen and download/watch whenever a new episode is out but I'll be happy enough when catching up on them.

A caravan of comedy?

Use the report post button on the first post and ask for it to be edited. Although I did it for you already :)

Ty for that.

I actually find American Dad to be funnier than a lot of the later Family Guy, but maybe when American Dad has been on the air just as long they will be equal, and The Simpsons lately is just....not funny, so I think how long a show's writers have been trying with the same characters definitely has something to do with how funny it is.

I'll paraphrase Rick Savage from Def Leppard, referring to the late Steve Clark:

"It's one of those rare breed of shows, to where you don't know if it's absolute rare genius or just complete idiocy. It's a fine line. It's one of those things where it isn't just unique.. but it's fantastic."

BL.

The earlier episodes of Family Guy are much better and funnier than the current ones (I don't think that many will disagree with me on that). The only times that I find the show any bit annoying is when it is a rerun of a more recent episode, I barely found them completely funny to begin with, and they are most certainly not any funnier the second time around.

I officially hate "Family Guy". I hate the kind of douchebags the characters are, and the ones that I assume would be fans of the show*. That said..... Any time I channel-surf across it when nobody else is around, I stop to watch, and find it funnier than any other show in recent memory.

*(OK, I know I just contradicted myself, but my excuse is that I find the show funny and consider it satire; I actually know other people who find it funny because "...it's just like my family!" Big difference.)

I don't think the people are meant to be taken seriously. I mean jesus, look at Quagmire. As a real human he would be scum.
