Rubbish in my opinion

All those stupid flash backs and just **** jokes, not very funny at all

Exactly. Take away the flashbacks, the random daydreams, and you have nothing.

I voted for "both", but honestly, the show is 20% funny, 80% annoying. I should have voted for "annoying". The show isn't clever at all.

South Park is still funny though. I watched the first 3 seasons, stopped watching altogether, and now, in their zillionth season, I just find it absolutely hilarious.

Yep they still manage to keep it fresh. I loved the Guitar Hero episode last season!

It's seems like (for me anyway) that Family Guy was popular just long enough to kill the Simpsons. Now that they are both still on-air, we have 2 semi-funny TV shows.

I personally am becoming sick of both and I'd rather watch the Office.

I voted 'Both'

Family guy generally makes me laugh, but there are definitely times when they're obviously trying too hard and just really miss the mark. Most of the time it'll get at least a chuckle out of me, though.

Normally is funny, but then there are those times when it is just totally stupid. I mean, is it really necessary to say ow fifty times in a row?

Don

I love the Simpsons. It's funny, and it is a cartoon, but it's smart enough.
Family Guy is great, funny, but there are moments where they just try too hard. for example:

Beginning scene said:
Peter: The "8 is enough" reunion show is on tonight!
*cuts to TV show*
Girl: Dad, Tommy's still sulking because Becky threw out his baseball cards!
dad: Well, maybe I should make him a sandwich.
Girl: oh dad, that's your solution to everything
Mother: PLEASE, STOP! 8 IS ENOUGH
*all of 8isenough family laughs*
*family guy family jawdrop*

I think this is getting a little ridiculous... but the rest is usually good.

I think the Office is the best comedy show airing right now. I don't mind Two and a Half Men, either.

Yeah, I think South Park trumps either Family Guy or The Simpsons.

My problem with Family Guy is really what South Park themselves brought up in their parody episode that someone mentioned early on in this thread: it's as if they just randomly pull 80s references and one-liners out of a bag and throw them together with no real rhyme or reason.

They also have a pretty bad tendency to reuse old material and running gags. That may be why a lot of people liked the first two or three seasons (before these jokes had been driven into the ground) but not the later ones (when they've seen them for the hundredth time).

For the most part, Family Guy is freakin hilarious, but as others have said, there are moments where it shows that they are trying too hard.

Speaking of funny shows, I recently watched a show called "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" two times, and it was absolutely hilarious. I don't remember the first episode I saw, but the 2nd one was incredible. I don't remember seeing such originality on an American TV comedy in ages.

The 2nd episode I saw was when Danny Devito and one of his sons starts collecting used stuff, then they go to a garbage dump/tip, and then they start getting really into this "collect and re-use old things that people throw out because it's still useful" sub-culture. As they get more and more into "collecting garbage", they start acting more and more like homeless people. Eventually, they were sleeping on the streets in the middle of a storm, clinging to heaps and heaps of unusable rubbish. :p The transformation was incredible.

And I don't know if they'll even show it again on Australian television. I watched it on a Sunday night, and haven't seen it since.

That's a great show...see if you can find the episode where Dee and Dennis get addicted to crack. That one always makes me laugh.

I find it far more annoying than funny, but it's a bit better than the current Simpsons episodes. All the good Simpsons writers seemed to leave in the late nineties. In the nineties, the Simpsons were GODLY. Damn.

I never intentionally tune in to Family Guy, but when I do happen to catch an episode (like last night on Adult Swim because my wife was watching it) I generally laugh.

So I said "Both" because as long as I only see one or two episodes a month I find it amusing. :)

South Park is just utter rubbish. I absolutely hate that show. Always have, always will.

Simpsons was great in the 90's. I remember waiting all week for the next new episode. I would even record them on my VCR (for you young kids a VCR is kind of like a DVR).

Now? The Simpsons is horrible and I haven't been able to get through a single episode for probably six years.

Sounds awesome already. It's always HOW they do things that's funny.

I now remember the 1st episode of that show that I saw. They had found a baby in a dumpster, and wanted to make money by trying to get it on TV or maybe print ads. The baby was too "white", and not exciting enough. They wanted a latino baby. They decide to make the baby look latino. I cracked up. :D

all 3 seasons of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia are on Hulu - not sure if you have access to that from Australia.

Just googled it. It isn't available, but it does sound like an incredible service (for you).

One of my favourite TV shows, there are some moments though where the joke runs on for a bit too long.
I can't stand a scene with Herbert in, it was funny at first, but now it's just boring, it's just the same joke repeated over and over...

Yeah, I think South Park trumps either Family Guy or The Simpsons.

I think I think that too. Where South Park is clever and is very well written, Family Guy is just more slapstick for me without it being completely devoid of humour (like The Simpsons is now).

It's weird though. I haven't laughed at or properly enjoyed The Simpsons for about a decade but it's such an establishment that if it were to go then I'd probably miss it.

Definetly both. Absolutely loved the show and format when I first saw it. But I couldn't really watch it now as it gets quite repetitive.

I gota say, my favorite joke ever from FG.

Peter: Brian, look! There's a message in my AlphaBits! It says "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

There are very few times I have ever laughed harder in my life.:D
