Is it product placement when the main actor goes to a apple store? :D
Californication is a all-mac show, i don't remember exactly but i believe in the second episode he destroys his pc laptop and goes right away to a apple store.

It was nice to watch. :D

I think Apple is paying for these spots. Look at Superbad, Knocked Up, and Accepted. They are all movies with Macbook Pro's in them. Surely, not by coincidence either.

justin long was in accepted.. and he does the apple commercials...

i was thinking about this the other day, and it occured to me that scrubs also seem to use macs alot. but they choose to have the apple logo on the back of the notebooks covered with a sticker, the logo of the hospital.

seems strange, obviously apple was not paying for product placement there. apple insist they do not pay for product placement at all, but who knows.

Well people need to use computers in shows as it's part of a daily life routine now. Which computer they choose, up to the producer of the show - so a preference to Apple might be involved.

As far as product placement. I would not doubt it at all either. Apple could be giving them free products to use or paying them to display the products.

When I worked for Gateway, they did a huge a product placement advertising run, spent millions on getting cow spotted boxes "behind" the actors in the hospital on the show ER. So it happens.

Product placement is the new commercials. The industry blames it on DVRs

For the record: in the House special AFTER the Super Bowl, there were Dells all over the place, logos prominently displayed. The only Mac I saw was a MBP that House had in his apartment (House's house?) At the end of the show, they listed companies that had paid for promotional consideration. Dell was in the list, Apple was not. I don't know why it would matter if they were though: if the marketing people at Apple decided that paid product placement enhances the brand, why would that be any different from any of the other forms of advertising and promotion they do?

Weren't there tons of Macs on "24"?

Apple is very strong in medical imaging by the way.

The movie 'Juno' had two Apple Cinema Displays side by side on a guys desk running what looked to be Mac OS X 10.4 on them. Not sure that they were connected to, although I'm willing to bet it was a Mac Pro.

k

like i said im not MASSIVELY bothered as i dont have that big a head as mentioned in one post , i just thought it was comical and strange that tv shows do this type of thing. As for the chick crowd i have no beef with you but dont step to people like you were a longtime apple fan etc when you only got your macbook because it matched your handbag.

In TV land, everyone's a Mac user unless there's promotional money involved.

Apple reportedly don't pay like Dell do, but that doesn't stop them from furnishing TV production companies with free Macs. Not technically paying to get your logo on screen that is it?

Either that, or maybe Hugh Laurie's old chum and comedy partner Mac fanatic Stephen Fry paid for them with some spare change :)

i mean if you watched the episode of house ( the one before the superbowl)
he directly refers to s.jobs and displays wilsons iphone !!

i got no problem with macs being in tv shows but when these shows start with pc hardware and mysteriously switch to mac because its the IT thing to do ,that annoys me.

Although with house i can forgive somewhat as it is such a good show.

BUt face it a lot of people with macs (these newcomers) only buy them because they look pretty and are a fashion statement rather than being osx users and supporters , i feel this detracts from the real apple users who receive downgraded treatment from apple and others because now apple and its users (especially the newcomers) have become a majority rather than the minority that was valued before.

my 2 cents

p.s not flamming newcomers if your choice to go mac were based on the right decisions then you are sensible.
are you serious? you're annoyed because you don't think they're getting them for the right reasons?

hi all

personally i think this undermines the genuine mac buyers who use the things because of osx not because they are the IT things of the moment.

how on earth does it undermine 'genuine' mac buyers? is there such a thing as an 'ungenuine' buyer? "oops, didn't mean to buy that..."

This snobby, elitist attitude is what causes many people to view apple users as snobs. Can't say, right now, that'd there'd be any way you could argue with them.

seriously, **** ER. it totally undermines me when i need to go to the hospital!

also, can you define "chick crowd" because all it's doing for me at the moment is screaming 'total ****** mysoginist in the area'

In 24, there are a few seasons with many Macs. When Jack Bauer was head of CTU, and when Palmer was in office.

In season 1 you could tell the bad guys cos they used the PC's, even in the CTU office, all the good guys used Macs...!

Product placement is big business, and because film/TV makers want their programmes to look good, they choose items that compliment the look they are trying to achieve, that Apple get loads of stuff on-screen and Dell have to pay speaks volumes for Apple's designs.

Props to the continuity director, because there were boxes for Apple Cinema Displays in his basement!

Btw:

"Mr. Brooks" and "Fracture" also feature Macs BIG TIME.

My gf keeps shushing me when I overexcitedly yell out :"THAT'S THE NEW BLACK MACBOOK! DID YOU NOTICE?!? ANYONE?"

Women...

Transformers had a bucket load of Macs as well, also had one " with a smart card reader"

If you look, when the dumb blond one takes a copy of "the Signal" to a friend, he has a PowerBook G4/ MacBook Pro with a card reader, which I thought was slightly odd.

Around 45 minutes, 25 seconds and a minute later
That's just an external card reader that matches the alu look.

Tons of Cinema displays though.

its called "Advertising". look it up.
and maybe think "hmm, I wonder why products would advertise on one of the most popular series on air right now?".
And they arent a chick company. They clearly gear towards professionals.
noob.

iLife and the Mac mini geared towards pro's? Please....

I've never seen as many macs as in I Am Legend... Every goddamn computer in that movie was a mac... And they were sure to let people see that too :)

I know, like 5 Mac Pros with Apple displays, iPod, iPod hi-fi and i think a load of LaCie RAID drives.

everyone in sex and the city had a mac

miranda has a mbp, harry and charlotte both had mbp's, carrie had an ibook in the older episodes...now that I think about it, they just wouldnt look right with a PC...

yup you guessed it, huge satc fan :)

Ghost Whisperer (great show, don't sleep on it!) also has a MBP in it prominently, all though there is a sticker over the Apple logo on the back of the screen.

Does it get any better than this? He even mentions Steve Jobs by name!

house_phone.tiff

Also a couple other OS X screen shots in the same episode that aired 1-29-08 with the secret santa, and the mom that lost feeling in her hands and lost her vision.

Willow from buffy used a white ibook (and she loved google). I forgot what other shows but I remember a point when if a laptop was on TV it was a white mac. In the last few years I noticed alot of sony vaio(sp?). The OS farrel used in die hard 4 seemed to be based on osx. One of the bad guys had an alienware laptop too ^_^

But yeah I don't think theres as many macs on tv as there used to be.

He was also in the new Die Hard movie .. and I'm probably the only one that noticed but he was the only person in the show using a Mac (or at least an Apple Cinema Display) :D. Also, I think every laptop owner in Scrubs owns a MacBook Pro or prior iterations of one, but the Apple logo is typically covered by a Sacred Heart Hospital sticker haha.
