I have a note 2 and loved the "real multitasking" in that device, which my 6+ can't do.(watch videos while play tetris) If you don't have everything in your house made by apple like I do. You should get a note 4 because it is the superior device. 1GB is a joke and pathetic by Apple.

Yep, the Note 4 is superior if your definition of superior means slower overall experience and reloading apps when you revisit them.

Still perplexed why Apple didn't upgrade at LEAST the 6 Plus to 2 GB RAM .

When you have the Sony Zperia Z3 at 3GB RAM, no excuses.

I will choose between iPhone 6+ 128 GB and iWatch

or

Samsung Note 4 32 GB with 128 SD card and Gear S.

I have 2 things concerning iPhone

A) is 1 GB ram if it's future prof for the next 2 years?

B) The bend problem.

B) If you keep your phone naked and sit on it for extended periods of time, this may be a valid concern.

A) this is the longest Apple has gone without updating the RAM, so next year you'll see 2GB iPhones. The apps to take advantage of this will follow, as will lag in some cases. If a little lag doesn't bother you, yes, it's future proof, especially if it just has to last until 2016. If lag bothers you, it may not meet your definition of future proof.

I think on an apple forum, everyone is going to say iPhone is the way to go lol

It's all about the money, 6s+ will probably have 2GB RAM. Need something to make it worth upgrading. And your right there's no excuses for it.. Note 4 FTW.

who needs excuses when it performs better than everything else out there? it's faster than any phone out there. you can continue to fap on z3 spec sheet, but it won't help the cause

Apple remember trickle out their upgrades. They have you bigger screen, nfc and retina hd this year. They need to save something for next year. They did this since the original iPhone. No surprises.

You're actually trying to watch videos while simultaneously playing Tetris on a 5.5" screen with an incredibly slow and laggy device?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that was just a poorly-executed joke or troll attempt, because that's the most moronic example of split-screen multi-tasking imaginable.

I don't think that factors too much into it because they never advertise the amount of RAM in iOS devices and the vast majority of consumers have no clue how much RAM their phone has. Apple almost never relies on a mere spec bump to sell their devices (save the iPad 4, perhaps).

With the way iOS apps suspend to RAM and keep your place, the only place where the lack of RAM is apparent is web browser tab reloading. That's annoying for sure, but there are probably other ways around it that they have yet to implement, like writing older tabs that are about to be pulled out of RAM to the NAND.

With respect to performance overall, I think it's a very safe bet that the 6 & 6 Plus are going to be the most future-proofed smartphones of 2014, just as their predecessors have been vs. flagship competitors from the same time period.

Note 3 here, I do plenty of split screen and don't have any lag. You guys need to try out some other tech before blasting it.

And I was talking about the Note 2, which is not quite the same as the Note 3. I usually try one or two new Android devices per year. Not Samsung (after using the S3), though, because... Touchwiz. Other OEM's offer the same (or better) hardware with better build quality and software that isn't complete *********.

5s -> 6 is actually just a "mere" spec bump.

You win the award for stupidest post on MR. Congrats.

It isn't as future-proof as the 4 and 5 was during their time, due to the 1GB of RAM and the huge bezels.

Who the hell wants to watch videos while playing Tetris?

Also it isn't pathetic if it has been shown that the 1GB of RAM can still out perform devices that has 3GB. Now who is pathetic?

This spec war is so early 2000's. It's 2014 and only the experience technology brings is meaningful anymore.

I didn't worry about the bending, until I looked down my phone. It's not bent, but it has warped. Now I'm being as careful as possible until pay day to buy a case, assuming it'll still fit

I guess the standard eBay descriptions for used iPhones are going to start including "not bent" and "slight bend see picture." It's a little pathetic.

As long as you don't multitask on your phone heavily, you should be fine.

You're still at it? I'm sorry man. Apple is the greatest, go team go. Nobody can take down the best company ever

Blatantly ignore the video. Sick, dude. It's clear proof that the way Apple handles multitasking is not necessarily affected by the amount of RAM in the same sense as Android or even desktop operating systems handle it.

Same thing with the fact that the 1.3ghz dual-core A8 outperforms the 8-core Exynos(clocked higher, too) in literally every benchmark. The specs do not make an accurate comparison. Sure, it sucks that it has 1GB of RAM and I'm the biggest power user of Apple products - but it hasn't presented a single problem in real-world use.

A lot of people seem worked up over this. I don't view it as an issue, especially given the typical life span of a phone is only 2 years.

This concerns me as well, but as a new IP6+ owner, I think as long as consider how you handle it and/or the case you choose will definitely make/brake the issue, i.e., a decent case and don't put it in your back pocket - you should be fine.[/QUOTE]

I always thought the tab reload people were a little insane, but it really is annoying.

Case in point. You have multiple Safari windows open. Some are things you're reading. Some are things you want to read later. You have another in window where you are filling out a form, and yet another with information to which you are referring.

You enter some form elements then toggle over to the other page. But it refreshes and loses its state. Maybe you get logged out. Then you toggle back to the form and it refreshes, too. Maybe state is retained, maybe it isn't. But it is incredibly annoying when it happens. And it happens a lot of you do that kind of thing.

That is definitely the most annoying aspect. You can get around it by using an app like Pocket to save the page you need to refer to, and then leave Safari open to the tab with the form in it. Then you can flip between the two with the multi-tasking switcher and it will be very unlikely to refresh your form state.

It's really stupid that we have to use a work-around for them skimping on RAM. Still, I'd happily take a bet that the iPhone 6/6 Plus end up being the most future-proof smartphones of 2014 from every other perspective. And perhaps Apple could modify iOS to cache static tabs to NAND for quick recall rather than forcing a reload.
