As its been said, these are great machines. My dad's company gives these out to all of their employees and dad has had his for a few years and loves it. They do the job for a business man. Plus they have the new, cool finger print technology (but my it never works on my dads machine).

The ThinkPad (Used to be called the StinkPad if I recall correctly).

In the world of Windows there are few doors, the ThinkPad is one of them. Okay I have been swayed by my MBP and now understand that I can have form and function, but in the dark days, I needed something that could handle the corporate build, the 157 default applications (I think I used 8) and the rigors of the job.

The ThinkPad was it. I don't have time for most of IBM's other offerings, server, desktop, software, but the ThinkPad was and still is my 1st choice when it comes to a world of Windows but no doors.

....Plus they bounce really well, I am talking from the top of a 47U cabinet.

If I were to own a Windows laptop it would most likely be a Thinkpad. They are great laptops and, despite their utilitarian looks, I think they look quite nice.

I'd get a thinkpad just for the keyboard.

They have the best keyboards i've ever used on a laptop.

They look MUCH nicer in person, but they're still ugly.

I used one for a while before I got my MBP and I have to say that it's probably one of the best PC laptops on the market. They're durable as hell and they work really well. They have great power management and networking.

That's probably one of the few PC laptops that's still designed for the "real" user instead of the average (web/email/dvds/music/games) user.

Thinkpads give an air of 'getting the job done' -- these are not your toyish dell/compaq/hp/whatever laptops with dvd controls on the front or some shiny logo bodywork on the back. I have a thinkpad A20m, sadly with a broken hinge (after 6 years of constant use), which is still running strong (though slow).

If I could run OS X on a non-apple machine legally, I'd run it on a thinkpad.

I can't possibly imagine anyone wanting to use these. I do like the "pointing stick" on them, but the colors clash, the design is clunky and in desperate need of an update from the early '90's.

Anyone else agree?

*checks*

Nope, you're definitely not the only one to think that.

The girl or the computer? ;)
Um, that would be the girl. That computer is one fugly piece of "stick me in a trash can and light me on fire."

Sorry, the build quality on a Thinkpad blows away any Mac laptop --- including the MBP.

Thankpads have higher quality keyboards.

I own a T60p.

(but yes, they are not the most attractive pieces of equipment in the world)

Both my wife and I have thinkpads. Both of them are, and have been, really good machines. Mine is starting to die, though. It's a PIII 700 MHz, and it's starting to freeze with tiresome regularity.

i have a T41, and it is, without question, one of the most wonderful laptops I've ever used. I'd say it beats a Titanium powerBook G4 in terms of awesomeness, and very nearly ousts my iBook.

The keyboard is phenomenal, the design is great (not too big, not too small), and it doesn't actually look that bad. Also, I like the magnesium casing.

In fact, I think I'll get an old 701C on eBay and network it with one of my 5300cs.

It's probably not just you, but I really like the ThinkPad design.

If I would have to go with a Windows laptop my first choice would be Lenovo/IBM.

ThinkPad's are amazing. Yeah, they aren't the most beautiful computers in the world but they are extremely solid. If I traveled a lot or needed a laptop that is extremely durable, I would choose a ThinkPad; and to be honest, I like the simple design. Old and dated, yes. A classic? Damn right.

The ThinkPads certainly serve their purpose. There are places I wouldn't ever imagine using my PowerBook for fear of it getting damaged since they can be a bit fragile. But the ThinkPads can take a pretty good beating.
