I know you're a ThinkPad fanboi, but come on, you have to admit that given the choice between a ThinkPad and an HP, your average user would choose the HP because of the way it looks. (Better, IMO)

Your HO means nothing, IMHO. The call it Hewlett-Pukeard for a reason. :D

EDIT: And no. You're wrong. I am not a fanboy. Whatever computer is the best value for the money, I buy. I would never own Macs if I didn't get good deals on them.

So, you don't care if a computer looks good? Really? Then why do you keep defending the ThinkPad's looks? It works for you? Great, have fun. But like I said above, the HP to most people looks much better then the ThinkPad. If you really do like the way it looks, congrats, you are one of the few.. I'm sorry to be flaming you like this, but it seems that each time you post in this thread, you're either bashing other laptops, or praising the ThinkPad.

What I'm trying to say here is this: We get it. You like ThinkPads. You don't have to bash other computers to get that point across.

Well, I'd take a think pad...but I know I'm not the average consumer.

But honestly, if they we're the same price, I'm not too sure

Care to show some statistics backing this up? Because until then, you're worse than the person you're criticizing. He said he likes thinkpads more than HP, you're saying that most people like HP's more in terms of looks. He explained his opinion, you put forth an unbacked assertion.

This thread is about thinkpads and how people think they're ugly.

Yeah, c'mon Cassie. You started this thread for the sole purpose of bashing Thinkpads. You got what was coming to you. Imagine what would happen if I put a thread in the MacBook Air section titled "is it just me, or are Airs the ugliest laptops on the market?" People would retort, and then I would pull "facts" out of thin air to prove my "point"? Come on.

Number one, this isn't a ThinkPad section.

Number two, yeah, I'm criticizing the looks of the ThinkPad. Did I ever say it was a bad computer? No. Obviously, there is a reason people buy them, and from my point of view, it's how well they work that persuades people to buy them.

If you'll read post #17 in the thread, I said this:
Me said:
As I understand it, these laptops are very functional and serve their purpose And that's just what a lot of people need, nothing more.

Sure, I've made my criticisms. Twice. I believe that the post that I quoted that started this little argument was the fourth or fifth time you've done so yourself. There's no law stating you can't do this, but I believe this is a relatively pro-mac forum, and what you're doing is like starting a "WINDOWZ RULZ!" Thread on here.

Feel free to AIM/PM me to further this, as I don't feel like discussing it in public any more.

You started a thread with the topic being "Is it just me, or are thinkpads the ugliest laptop on the market?" Are you joking?! Did you want everyone to agree with you? Heaven forbid someone voices another opinion in response to your extremely blunt opinion set forth in the title.

Feel free to start a thread discussing the aesthetic merits of ThinkPads. Oh wait, you already did. Sorry for raining on your parade for disagreeing with you.

While I agree that the R-series and T-series might need to be restyled, I personally find the X series, i.e. the ultra-portable notebook, very beautiful.

If had to get a PC, I would almost unconditionally purchase a ThinkPad. And I definitely agree, though the R and T series could benefit from a modest upgrade, the X-Series/X300 is gorgeous. I really don't understand some people (like OP) who think they look ugly, but to each his/her own. I think they look a TON better than some of the cheesy (and usually ugly) HP and Dell designs out there. And although (now!) Macs and HPs/Dells dominate the lecture halls in my school, I'm also quite surprised at how many ThinkPads I spot.

In terms of design, I actually love their business-suit, don't-mess-with-me look and attitude. I think ThinkPads are an excellent example of where function over form can also equate to simple beauty.

Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and my MacBook Pro, but ThinkPads are not to be ridiculed!

Yeah, I was saying this isn't a ThinkPad only section, so it's not quite the same as what he described with the MBA.

Did you even read my post, or for that matter, this thread!? There are people who like ThinkPads who have posted in here. I have nothing against people who like ThinkPads, more power to them, It's a good computer. I have something against people who post nearly the exact same praise for Thinkpads, when this clearly isn't the "ThinkPad appreciation" thread. I'm not saying someone can't come in here and voice how they like ThinkPads, all I'm saying is, after the third or fourth time of praising ThinkPads and bashing other brands, it gets a little old.

Feel free to start a thread discussing the aesthetic merits of ThinkPads. Oh wait, you already did. Sorry for raining on your parade for disagreeing with you.

Read the above, I don't think I can make it more clear.

You started a thread bashing ThinkPads, and impathetic merely posted in a few threads praising them. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I like the look of ThinkPads, especially the X-series, but I can certainly see why some people do not like them. They are not for everyone. But when you start a thread with such a provocative title, it's only natural you are going to get some reactionary replies.

And I expected that. What I didn't expect was the same person posting the same thing four times...

Awww that's nice. You should both get married and have children, while living in the suburbs and driving a minivan.
:D

No spouse of mine is gonna drive an effin' minivan.

Think Porsche.

No, actually, as soon as I graduate, I'm going to escape all this **** in the USA and move to Canada.

Ah you're going to have a sporty wife... sounds like the Cayenne will be the perfect solution. Will you be having the Cayenne S, GTS, or Turbo?

What? Hell no. 911 GT3. The kids can walk! :D

But what would the wife drive? :D

Personally I'd take a 911 Carrera S myself. Guards Red with Stone Grey Interior. Oh, and I'd have to take a Tiptronic so I could drive it around here without killing myself shifting. Plus, I can't drive a stick! :(

Well, I can't drive at all, so don't feel too sorry for yourself.

Actually, I don't think I'll bother with the whole car thing.

hands down the ugliest pc laptop that is widely distributed

they are still not bad in most reliability surveys...they are kind of like my old volvo, they get the job done, not beautifully, but more reliably than most

of course, macs are not only more reliable than anything running windows, but are sharper looking than almost any pc laptop

i do admit to liking some sony laptops' designs better and the alien laptop lines are always the sleekest along with apple

but then again, mba put everybody to shame when it comes to looks

the pc world, from what i have seen, is yet to come out with something as thin, yet durable as the mba

some of the pc world's thin laptops have just seemed too flimsy for my taste...yes, i am a clutz :)

I kind of agree with you. I think the ThinkPad has no chance of a beauty award at all, but at least it doesn't look all goofy like some laptops I've seen. I guess you could call the design "stuff goes where it does because that's the way it works best."

I think that the new budget Sonys are horrid, though.
