iPhones suck bro. I love Apple and all, but I hate the newer iPhones, they are basically camera phones with an ugly screen.

On the other hand Mac can do almost anything an iPhone can and is much more powerful and pleasant to work with.

I don't even want a fancy phone but in China everything needs an app that is extremely clunky and power-hungry, which is probably why I might NEED to upgrade in a few years, hopefully they will still keep the iPhone 7-8 design for the budget version... praying for a Plus version of iPhone SE, or you know, for Apple to finally wake up and make an all screen iPhone by 2025.

The M1 was interest because Apple grew their iPhone chip up to be a computer with a System On A Chip design. Performance boost because it doesn't have to go outside the chip for RAM and graphics. So now the question is how big of a chip are they willing to make to put the amount of RAM pro and workstation class computers require. The bigger the chip the more bad chips in the wafer. Also Apple is all about shrinking things and chip would get pretty big to put that much RAM on it. So where is the point of diminishing return and going back RAM outside the chip more cost effective. I think they've hit that wall trying to work on a new Mac Pro. My guess Apple may pull away from the high end workstation class computers and stick to consumer and prosumer computers. That is the bulk of their customer base.

So interested in seeing the M1x update to the M1 and how much RAM past 64GB they are going to offer.

I don't use anything from Apple beside their computer(s). But there is a possibility, that I will totally switch over to other platform(s) if Apple's prices get insane.

The applications I am using are multiplatform, so I don't have big trouble to go from A to B or C (if such thing exists)...

I'm still a iPhone 6S and still no need to upgrade. iPhone yearly releases are boring now. Waiting for the new macs.

More people are excited for the M1X macs than the iPhones and I am one of them. I fully get the the M1X Mac is just way more interesting than an iPhone.

I won't be buying them anytime soon but I am VERY interested in the M1X as a tech nerd.
Anyone else feel the same??

Can't wait for next week!!
Maybe more Mac fans are excited, but in the world of Apple iPhone users greatly outnumber Mac users, so it seems very unlikely that Mac-citement is greater than i-phanaticism.

As a fan of both Mac and iPhone (and Watch, and iPad, and....) I truly can't say which excites me more.

I've been excited about iPhone 13 Pro because I get the cameras I want in the size that I want (I really did not want to step up to a 12 Pro Max simply to get the longer telephoto). The addition of macro-focus is major icing on the cake.

I was really stoked about last year's Mac "reveal" - after all, it's a big leap from Intel to Apple Silicon. This year's event will be nice, but I don't expect to see a 30-ish-inch iMac, which is what I'm waiting for.

From my perspective, M1X is only exciting to those "power users" who must always have something better than everyone else (whether they actually need the extra power is another question entirely). It's not something that is going to excite the masses of Mac users. Will it be nice to have an M-series machine that supports two or more external displays? Absolutely. Will it be nice to have a 32 GB RAM option? Yes. But only "nice" - I don't need either capability myself, but it'll shut up the folks around here who insist that's what they must have to be happy (and within an hour they'll be unhappy because no matter how good it is, deep down they need to be disappointed with Apple). The masses of Mac users don't get excited about Mac Pro announcements either, for the same reason - it doesn't really matter unless you really need one.

And one more reason I'll be likely to yawn... I'm not a laptop user.

Well yeah, computers are still fun. They're not only a gateway to the information super highway but enable us to create. Phones and iPads are boring consumption devices that these days tend to just keep people stuck in a few awful social media hellscapes.

(I'm somewhat serious, but not overly so)
My iPad Pros run professional music software as well as photo and video editing software. My M1 MacBook and Mini double up on those with software of different capabilities. There are some things the iPads actually do better than then Mac for creatives...

I still can't understand people getting excited for a phone...

I guess it is because that is what the majority of Apple users have the most interest in as it's the device with the highest sales numbers. That is what people depend on more and more as their main device.

People are least likely across the Apple line-up to have a macOS device.

Yes Airpods and Macbooks, I so did not care for the phone or watch this year ;)

Also I have been waiting for these since April, just hope they will not disappoint with all that hype.

For a lot of people it’s their primary computing device that they spend hours on each day, not hard to see people getting more excited for that than a MacBook upgrade. That, and the fact that Macs has always been Apple’s less flashy product since the iPod came out.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro at the start of the year out of necessity so the new iPhones are irrelevant for me.

I have always been more excited for the new Macbooks.

Well, it is high time Apple does something for the semi-pro crowd, so I guess that expectations are running a little high. The phones are approaching their final forms, a slab of glass with perhaps some rounded/fat corner treatment, so no radical departures there anytime soon.

I think many overlook the other really cool “feature” about MagSafe, which is the ease of being able to connect the cable to the MacBook with one hand. No need to hold the MacBook in order to insert the usb-c cable. If the new MacBooks offer the ability to attach the MagSafe charger or usb-c cable as desired, while still offering ample usb-c ports, that would be an out of the park home run to many.

Now, if the new MagSafe is implemented more like the iphone, where it’s not a direct MagSafe cable connection like before but instead something more like a wireless charging solution that requires you to pick up the macbook to orient the wireless connection properly (which would be more cumbersome than plugging in usb-c), my first thought is that this would not be nearly as elegant as the original MagSafe solution. But I guess we’ll see all around. Apple is famous for coming up with a fancy new way of doing things that has aspects of being more inconvenient than before, so now I’m kind of nervous.
Wireless charging won't be able delivery what a MacBook needs for a while yet, so I wouldn’t worry.

Personally I’m more concerned about the durability of the charger. I used to go through at least 1 MagSafe power brick a year with the cable usually fraying badly on the connector end due to heat and repeat bending. Those things also cost an arm and a leg since the cable is attached to the charging brick and there were no reliable third party options. With USB-C I haven’t had a cable or charger fail on me yet, and both parts are individually replaceable if needed. Hopefully Apple at least retains the USB-C port on their charging brick and not go back to the attached design.

Because it’s not a phone.
Don't understand the focus of so many on iPhones, when this is the MACrumors site, not an APPLErumors or iPhone rumors site. I am excited about Monday as I have been waiting quite a while to replace my 2015 13" MacBook Pro with something a bit faster, slightly bigger screen, good keyboard and no gimmicky touchbar with better battery life. Magsafe and SD card reader are also things I rely on a lot when I am travelling for work (writing technical articles) or leisure (as I am an amateur photographer). This may be the first time I immediately jump to buy a brand new product since my LCII many, many years ago - fingers crossed.

I think its because honestly the M1 macbooks blew my mind. I replaced a hot, noisy 16" MBP with a small, light and silent 13" that cost about 3/5th the price and its performance is way better.

I can't wait to see what a full fat Apple Silicon Mac will do. Its going to address all the issues I have with the current one as well by all accounts.

Cannot wait!

iPhones on the other hand haven't changed much in years and i'm still rocking an X which performs perfectly.

Excited/hyped are strong words. Let's say "more interested".

In my case my iPhone XS is just fine, thank you. But I do happen to need a new desktop and Apple has none available for me right now. Or none that will last, x86 being dead.

At least they announced the arm switch before i ordered an x86 Mac Pro :)

Edit: funny enough, with the arm announcement they turned me from a mac pro customer into a mac mini customer. I need access to all main operating systems and with the switch away from x86 I'll need one of those too, so the mac pro doesn't justify its price any more.

I think it's not surprising it's a Arch overhaul for the Pro machines. Plus, this year it was an "S" year for the phon/watch.

Let's not forget what's happening in the PC world, the M1 is currently the best laptop to buy and the best "high end budget" option with he Air and the Pro M1.

Honestly I'm very happy with all this excitement surrounding the Mac!

Correct me if I'm wrong: we are all talking about redesigns of the MBPs, but there have been absolutely no leaks of this.

Absolutely cannot wait for new MBPs to be announced though – desperately hanging on to my 2015 MBP while working! Sooooo slooowwwwww!

Absolutely more interested for the Mac event than the iPhone past one. M1X sound to be a serious competitors for GPU too, compared past solutions. But the miracle, if any, is the overall computation capability these new "chips" seems to have. Really curious about. Seems a true generational jump.

Definitely - to me the M1 journey is as revolutionary and exciting as the Apple of old. A game changer instead of small increments.

With that being said, I am actually happy about the iPhone 13 Pro and will probably get one at a point. Have a few generations to jump over 😀

Absolutely! I wasn’t going to buy a phone this year in any case, and although a better camera is always interesting and welcome, I wasn’t expecting any super exciting additions.

On the other hand, I have been putting off a laptop purchase for years and years, and am am both excited and anxious to see the presented form factor, features and performance.

I will be buying one on launch day no matter what, I just don’t know what I will be buying yet, or for how much.

I am still using an iPhone 8. I remember when I upgraded from my iPhone 5, I did not get that special feeling. After the upgrade everything worked pretty much the same as before.

With all these iPhones updates I felt like we were going around in circles.
Yes, the new phones are faster.
Yes, the camera is somewhat better.
But everything else is basically the same.

Should I throw away my iPhone 8 and buy an iPhone 13?
I am not convinced.

I use a Macbook Pro for work.
It is what I make money with.

With the latest MBP design I was very disappointed to see the Card reader, and standard USB ports going away. I don't want to carry around dongles/adapters. To me it just does not feel like a Pro machine.

I decided to keep my current MacBook Pro Unibody as long as I could.
Which is a great machine and it is still going strong.

But now, that there are rumors about the ports coming back, I got excited again.
I cannot wait to find out.

Apple needs more tech guys in their product development team.
What works inside Apple HQ, may not be the case in the real world.
Think rest of the World, not just California.

For me it’s just a phone, as long as my 7+ works (calls, messages, navigation, music) I dont need new one.
Macs is different story my 5,1 and MB Pro 15 with touchbar will be replaced with m1x, cant wait for the event.
