Im quite a heavy user, i work in graphic prepress so im quite aware of issues that can arise on complex configurations. I also use Google drive, have a few shared drives and im connected to a fairly complex LAN for a home network. I admit i only have three email accounts setup in mail but it runs perfectly. I do alot of work in the adobe suite as that is my profession. I also bootcamp into Windows 7 on both machines. I also have over 6 TB's of files on my NAS and finder shows the directory contents almost instantly every time.

Im sorry but perhaps you should try a fresh re-install, if that does not work move back to ML.

Thanks Torana, but I'm NOT going through another clean install again. It's got to be Mavericks.

I can assure you its not Mavericks as im not having any issues with it along with many others. If there were major issues with the OS then everyone would be having the same issues. Have you considered that it could be the way you have your machine setup?

I didn't even do a clean install on either my 2008 Macbook Pro or my 2012 Mac Mini. It was dog slow for the first hour as MDS-Stores or whatever it's called rebuilt the new file database (something must have changed for it to start over) but then it went back to normal and has been fine since. MAIL has been troublesome even since the 10.9.1 update, it still doesn't get mail that is sitting in Google sometimes and I have to quit and restart and then it's normal again. Whatever they claimed to fix in 10.9.1, it didn't fix that. Thunderbird works perfectly, however. I just liked Apple's interface a little better. I don't use Safari hardly at all so I can't comment on updates there. But overall, I just don't get where "this is the worst OSX EVER" come from. I read the rants and they talk about stupid crap like their hard drive dying coincidentally and blaming it on Apple or some 3rd party program not working when it's 3 versions behind the current one (you can't expect companies to support older versions forever).

I mean I wish Apple kept Rosetta support, but they have to move on sooner or later. It's not like they didn't give these companies a chance to update. Some simply abandoned the Mac and games rarely get updates (Aspyr thought has been very good about updating old games; I had a Mavericks Jedi Academy fix the very next day; I don't think the Windows game would get a fix that fast, probably never since it's made its money there. But people still buy older games for the Mac. Some predicted Aspyr would disappear with Cider appearing, etc., but I'm glad they haven't since their games work much better and still get supported when things break like here.

-Update-

This is a tiny issue i have when I enter full screen mode in Safari.

34o6b5s.jpg

It keeps the tool bar up top even when I'm not hovering around it, and will stay there for about a good minute before going down.

And i also started to notice that previewing files is a little bit slower than in pervious versions, but doesn't really hurt the experience.

So far thats all i have noticed so far.

On all three of my macs, Mavericks has been nothing short of wonderful. The 2013 MBA benefitted the most from it of course, but my 2011 iMac and MBA also responded VERY well to the upgrade. I have no issues on any of the machines, and they all see very regular usage at the hands of myself, my wife and my kids. All of our applications work, no issues with connectivity, and all features seem to work as advertised. :apple:

Mine disappears instantly when going full screen.

My 2-week experience with Mavericks:

1) Runs faster.

2) Shuts down instantly, instead of a minute later.

3) Financial charts load without stalling.

BUT ...

4) System is much more susceptible to crashing. With Snow Leopard I could run it for days or weeks without rebooting but Mavericks won't go more than a day or two without crashing over some triviality: it can't handle multi-tasking as well.

Shut down on my Macbook Pro and my Mac Mini takes 30+ seconds each here with Mavericks. OTOH, I've been running 24/7 in Maverick for weeks on end and have never had a single crash except when running a Cider game once (Dragon Age Origins). I've had no multi-tasking issues on the Mini (but it's a quad-core). The Macbook Pro feels a bit slower than Mountain Lion, but Mountain Lion felt the same as Snow Leopard (and just as bug-free). Mavericks needs a bit of work, but OTOH, the multiple monitors support is SOOO much better now.

If there is anything that i like about using Mavericks, its the full screen mode. I can finally full screen safari and have another application open on the other screen. I will wait for the next update to see if i will make it my main OS. Crossing my fingers for good news :)

Its sucks!

Just purchased an new 27" Imac, it came with Maverick, just wasted the last 2 days trying to get my contacts to work. In the process I read many disappointing things about the OS not the least of which was the loss of iphone contact sync. In the process of installing Mountain Lion now.

This one just didn't feel right.... 15years a Mac owner, miss you Steve...

Somehow your entire post seems untrue. Contacts haven't been an issue with Mavericks and there aren't "many" disappointing things about it. Not only that, you can't install an older OS than the the one the machine came with. I call you entire post BS, along with the fact your just registered and it's your first post. You didn't even ask for anyone's help. You're so obvious.

Clarification

To clarify,

The intent would be to install OS X 10.8.4 build 12E4022 assuming that it is possible, if not... maybe back to the store.

New to the forum since I have not needed assistance with a mac to date, starting with a G3 500 through 3 mac pros, (all still running) using a 2008 mac pro with SL at the moment and an Air running lion.

My recent migration from SL to Maverick worked as expected however Mail has no contacts and the address book lacks the option to import. All efforts to add and import have been unsuccessful to date, IT and mine. Some mention of known bugs with gmail and possibly exchange server but no solutions that I can find, 10.9.1 Not used to these problems with a Mac OS. Ironically outlook works fine

Additionally I maintain a Iphone 3 because it works, loosing support for this in the new OS just feels like a microsoft thing.

Trying to stay apple...

That's the one version of Mountain Lion I would not want (major sleep bug only in that version).

Why don't you just export/import CONTACTS? I can guarantee that Mavericks Contacts can both import Snow Leopard and export its own, etc. In fact, you have the option to sync over the cloud (e.g. any changes I made on my Mac Mini to my contacts are automatically added to my Macbook Pro and iPod Touch. Mail uses Contacts so.... ;)

Thanks

Importing and exporting contacts was and should be a simple affair, however the import option is Greyed out in contacts OS 10.9.1 and I have been unable to find a solution. I don't necessarily want to sync all contacts, home and work as they are very different lists but even using icloud does not overcome the lack of the import option. Mail is also unable to access my company directory and that has never been a problem in the past.

Maybe I am missing something small or simple, any suggestions are welcome in the mean time the mac pro on snow leopard remains my best friend.

All I can tell you is that Contacts' import option is definitely NOT greyed out on my Macbook Pro I'm typing on right now running Mavericks 10.9.1. I even selected it to make sure and it asked me for the file so something isn't right in your setup. Are your permissions correct?

Solution found

I have discovered after migrating a user profile can become corrupted which causes contacts to loose all import functionality. Since for simplicities sake I chose to simple migrate my Mac Pro (big apple advantage) didn't work this time. Known Maverick problem apparently, no solution at this point. Fix options either create a new profile or reformat and do a manual build, I chose the latter. See what fun lies ahead...

I'm willing to bet you will have a complete 180 experience with the reformat and manual install. Just make sure you install each app manually and not by way of a Time Machine restore. Otherwise you will be dumping your drama files back onto your nice clean MaverickS install.

Not sure why you keep purposely misspelling Mavericks? In case you ask why this is important to me is because the world doesn't call Microsoft Windows, WINDOW without the S. Please refer to the product it's correct name, it's annoying, at least to me. Keep in mind you're not here to read your own posts, myself and other forum members are. :p

I migrated my PPC PowerMac running Leopard of all things to a 2012 Mac Mini with Mountain Lion. It took an incredibly long time (like over an hour) with Gigabit, but it did work and I haven't had those issues. I did have to remove some PPC only Apps but that was about it. I'm sure if I interrupted it, corruption could have occurred. You could try migrating again if you have the previous Mac still.

Possible compatibility issue with OS X Mavericks and Parallels Desktop for Mac v8

I may have finally found the culprit to all of my performance issues. After working with an Apple Specialist for a couple of months, I finally decided to uninstall Parallels Desktop v8 to see if it may have been the problem. After uninstalling, I have regained all of the performance I am used to seeing with OS X.

Does anybody else use Parallels Desktop for Mac v8 (not v9) and experience OS X Mavericks performance issues?

I've got VMWare, but I only turn it on when I actually need to run something Windows (usually a game). I try to stick to mostly Mac software. I still think Mavericks is a bit slower than Mountain Lion, but I've heard the 10.9.2 upgrade is a nice improvement. I like the multiple monitor improvements too much to go back, though in the mean time.

I don't even have to be running a VM and my OS performance is impacted. The VM software has done something to the file system that is not compatible with Mavericks.

Hmmm, I wonder if that's why my 2008 MBP feels slower in Mavericks. I never uninstalled VMware (don't think I've run it on that one either since then).

Let me rephrase this...Parallels was installed but a VM didn't have to be running for Mavericks to take a performance hitị

I understood what you were saying and I was saying that I have VMWare installed but I'm not running it on my 2008 MBP and maybe that's why the GUI feels slower than Mountain Lion on it, not because Mavericks' GUI is inherently slower. Unfortunately, because of what you said, I know of no way to test this theory other than to uninstall VMWare on it, which I'm loathe to do.
