This was the smoothest ordering experience I have had in a few years. I am usually up at 3am EST to order and normally it is a nightmare with it taking at least an hour to order. I was able to jump on the app and order within just a few minutes of the site launching. I was back to bed at 3:05am for once.

Had the phone I wanted + confermation email by :04.
Hope Delivery goes smooth! Didn't get to bed for a while however. Adrenalin kicked in and I was PUMPED :p

For me it wasn’t that great. I couldn’t use the app because my ipad 3 is still running IOS 7 and the app is not compatible
I used the web instead and the page wouldn’t work until :15 past. I was able to order a Rose gold 6 plus 64gb but by the end of my order the shipping time had changed , I was given a 5-10 October shipping .
Pfftt I cancelled my order and I made a reservation instead to pick up in store on the 25th , not a rose gold ( I wasn’t even sure that’s what I wanted anyway) but a silver
I just hope by the time I get to the store to pick up my phone they still have stock and they haven’t done anything silly and give it away

It was definitely much quicker than the previous apple pre-orders for me too.

Last year for the 6 was the worst. This year, the app came up at 12.02 for me, I made a few selections, and finished in less than a minute without being kicked out.

No issues here. Used the iPhone Apple Store app.

Verizon - 6s
128GB Space Gray
Full retail + AppleCare
Confirmation email at 12:05am (Southern California)

Wait for my new Apple order shipment to pop up through UPS MyChoice, setup package hold at local UPS distro center, pick up after work on 9/25 (not at home to sign during the day). Also recycled/resold my 6 to Gazelle.

I do this same process each year, always seems to work good thankfully! :apple:

I agree!

This year the Apple servers seemed to handle things better. Previous years it has taken quite a bit longer.

If your carrier is ATT, Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile, it was probably fine. If your carrier is a GSM MVNO, you could order a T-Mobile paid-in-full model and be fine, so it seems.

The problem is if your carrier is a CDMA MVNO. Many are saying that the T-Mobile paid-in-full option is the same phone as the Verizon one, and others are saying it may not be. So for a few of us who happen to use a Verizon pre-paid MVNO, this has been a confusing preorder event. I reserved a Verizon 6S at our "local" Apple Store (45 minutes away). However, I just called a "specialist" at the Apple Store who said that they had been told that the early Verizon phones are locked to Verizon accounts.

I've tried package hold twice now with UPS MyChoice for my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus last year and it didn't work either time. They still tried to deliver on the day for both. It was very frustrating and annoying. Both times there was no one at home to sign for and I had to wait until the following Monday to pick up from the depot. I'm going to try again this time but as well as request it online I'm going to phone them to confirm it.

I really believe all of the phones will be the exact same and the ATT variant will have that one extra band. You should be good with the t-mobile variant...especially since you already have an active SIM.

No, they effed up.

They should've explicitly stated that in order to join the new upgrade program, one will have to reserve for in-store pickup. If not qualified, one will still be given an option to buy outright. Also, it's still unknown whether prepaid customers are qualified. Also, the Apple Store app didn't let you reserve, nor does it let you use more than 1 credit card to pay.

Had I known all of the above, I would've reserved instead of buying online.
I was able to make an in-store reservation on the Apple Store App.

Apple seems to have LOTS OF STOCK!

You can still order an AT&T 128GB 6S+ and get it on the 25th!
I noticed that as well. I'm trying to avoid buying a new phone this year but I keep seeing that 6s being available, its tempting me :p

Seriously the different between the 6 and 6s is small enough that its hard to justify spending nearly a thousand dollars. Yes it will be somewhat offset by selling my current phone but I'll still lose money.

Hard choice for sure!

I told my boyfriend the same thing (he opted NOT to get up with me, as I told him I expected to be at it for at least an hour, as in years past)--I was up at 2:53 (that extra 3 minutes sleep is a BIG DEAL. lol) and got my order to go through on the Apple Store app at 3:10ish. Got the confirmation at 3:16 as I was trying to wind back down to go back to sleep. :D

And it was *infinitely* better than "preorders" in 2010. That year, I tried for 7 hours to preorder a black 32GB (after the debacle that was white not being available at all) and had to settle for a reservation. Both the Apple and AT&T servers kept timing out alternately and my preorder kept failing part-way through. So frustrating. So any time less than that is a step up, IMO. :p

Consider the lost money as fun money. Entertainment.

Did you pull the trigger and move to Tmobile? or did you stick with at&t?

It was a good launch in that I was able to actually get into the apple store on my laptop (had my ipad beside me just in case) and order my phones, but the model differences are perplexing. I have more than one carrier (main one is verizon) and I still do not know which versions can be used with multiple carriers. Or can they be interchanged.

I was keeping one eye on the keynote and another on a meeting (yes, bad) and my first understanding as that there were universal iPhones (wouldn't that be awesome) and one just obtained the correct sims for each model. Multi-task fail for me.

Generally I agree with you, but with other expenses coming down the pike I need to priorities where my limited funds go.

I'm sticking with ATT, mostly as we (the wife and I) figured waiting until we actually need 4 lines will be better then rushing into any deals with T-Mo.

When I checked this am it said 25th. Not worried as I got my two on the way for the 25th.

Oh, okay.
I ordered my 128 gb iPhone 6s Plus on the 12th and the delivery window is Oct. 16 - Oct. 23.
Guess you had the "magic touch". Want to place my pre order for me today? ;)

The ordering process was great, but it's not a 'launch' until they've actually started to be delivered.

Yes, that would be correct. The launch is actually on September 25th.
Perhaps it should have read "Apple does a great pre order" but I wouldn't have agreed with that either.

Go for it! The 6s Plus has supply constraints with later than launch day delivery dates, despite what others may have said.
