So where do you stand on this now that you've been educated? I hate saying the same tired cliche that seems to be said a lot, but if you have issues with it you should return it, you're still within the window.

Besides that, including the bumper with the iPhone, and maybe some kind of statement saying it is not recommended to use without a bumper, would have been more honest and does not make it a "defective" product - the key is being upfront about it.

the product is still defective in your scenario.

Look - I love my iPhone4 despite it's flaws. I keep it in a case - and that has nothing to do with the reception issue.

The reception issue/concern is genuine. And "just return it" assumes that people are unwilling to live with the issue. I think you'll find that many people WILL live with the issue - but not like it. And not like that they have no option BUT to use it in a case for the best reception.

The same people who can live with the issue have every right to hold Apple ACCOUNTABLE (and that's what this is really about) for releasing a "defective" product. The noise - on here, the press, etc is serving it's purpose. It's sending the message that Apple needs to stop ignoring the issue.

Returning the phone is another issue altogether and is a personal choice based on what people can or cannot live with.

Does this make sense? I know it's a bit rambly. Point that I'm trying to make I guess is that it's not a black and white issue to keep or return it. I'm not in favor of throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

if your iphone is transporting you, shouldn't it be 100% accurate? even .00000019 microns will screw with you on re-entry....right? i mean, you could end up transporting yourself to another location only to re-appear with your nose attached to your ass.....

so yea, maybe the iphone 4 won't be apples worst device ever....the iphone 27 will be!

Nothing is ever 100% accurate. Ever.

The issues I have is what everyone else has. I'd be a damn fool if a waste my time going and returning or getting an exchange for something that Apple has no control of. Like I said I'm going to wait and see what Apple has to offer then I'm going to make my decision.

BTW it's so easy to tell someone to return their device BUT what does that do to address the issues?

Well return or don't return. But don't attack me like you guys seem to because my iPhone 4 experience is not terrible. You guys sit there and say how Apple fanboys are like people in a cult, etc.

Yet you guys go out of your way to attack people who are not having problems. At this point you have it made up your mind that this a blunder for apple.

I don't think it's going to ruin apple and we need to leave it at that. Because if you guys attack me that will show how mature you are.

you are confusing debating with attacking. No one is attacking you.

NO, the idiocy here is that when I read through the front page every other freaking thread is a thread about if the iPhone 4 is a failure or why it is a failure or why it is not. Every other damn poster in this forum thinks that what they have to say is SO DAMNED IMPORTANT that it requires a new thread.

If you aren't adding something original or unique to the forum, don't post a new thread. It's that simple. (Notice I chose to post in this thread instead of bitching in a new thread?)

The problem with that is that I used to enjoy coming here to either find new cool ideas for my phone or troubleshoot issues I'm having. But the forum is so littered with reposts rehashing the same **** over and over that it's a pain in the ass to navigate.

Yeah - I still say it's not a big deal. I don't click on threads I don't want to read. And if the first page is cluttered with them, I click to page 2. It's not big deal.

Your bitching in this thread or any other is just as redundant. It's been done before several times in several threads. Notice it's not changing anything or anyone's behavior? I wonder why that is...

Look with the bumper on my iPhone 4 it is in every way superior to my 3G. Faster. Better screen. Front and rear video including 720p. AND BETTER RECEPTION.

The disaster is the media attention which has sullied the name of Apple, and perhaps allowing this antenna weakness through they deserve it, but the phone itself isn't a disaster. You know what it is? The best smartphone you can buy.

I definitely agree there is an issue and Apple should just come clean about it. If they said "we decided to go with this design because of the gain in reception (proven over 3GS/3G) but are going to give out Bumpers for those with antenna issues", I think a lot of people would be happy.
I am 99% satisfied with the iPhone4 and love everything about it. I wouldn't return it, because the reception issue only rarely affects me even though i'm in a low reception area.
Some people have gotten WAY TOO fired up about this issue...

You are so correct!!!!

People are trying to justify making the right choice of buying an iPhone 4 so they throw in that "they sold over 2 million" jibberish.

It would be nice to know exactly how many were returned.

How are those of us that are happy with our phones and don't have these issues trying to justify making the right choice? My phone works, and doesn't drop calls no matter how I hold it. Why would I be unhappy with my phone?

HARDLY minor issues.

Actually I would say that minor is the perfect description for it. If no matter where you touched the phone you dropped calls then it would be unusable and be a major problem.

In this case all you have to do is keep away from the seem of an antenna, minor problem since it can be avoided quite easily.

I really wish people would stop blowing it so far out of proportion

The press conference tomorrow IMO is damage control and not because all phones have problems. We don't know how many returns or # of units sold so we really can't say if it's a disaster. Maybe from a PR perspective it is a disaster, but we don't know from the sales perspective.

I'm also tired of people saying that it's every phone. I can only speak from my own personal experience and I have not had the dropped calls or sensor issues. I'm not saying there isn't but to say that everyone has a problem and if you don't you're lying is not right either.

Regarding your second point, I agree wholeheartedly, that's why I couched it by saying it was a cliche. But to your first point, my response was to your statement that "an educated consumer would NEVER knowingly buy a defective product that needs an aid to help it do what it should do unaided". To me, and maybe I misunderstood you, that meant if you knew of these issues up-front you never would have bought the device in the first place. It doesn't take much time to return it is all I'm saying.

Again, telling everyone in a blanket statement to "return their device" is not what I'm talking about, but in your case to me it seems to apply to you since you indicate you would not knowingly bought it in the first place.

Opinion not fact

Right. But yet you guys make it your mission to attempt to change people's opinion who are happy with their phones. It's like its some of your missions in life to do nothing but change peoples minds about apple.

You can't do that. Those of us who are happy with our phones. Will stay happy no matter what your experience is. You can stand on your soapbox all you want but it's not going to change my opinion on a product that i'm happy with.

I'm sure many would have not bought iPhone 4 if Apple would have said up front "there are many manufacturing defects and design flaws with our product". I would have waited to see what Apple would do to remedy the issues BUT since that wasn't the case there are countless iPhone 4 owners like me stuck with a device thats not 100% up to par.

I don't have the proximity issue. I don't have yellow blotches.

But I do experience significant signal drop when holding the phone normally in my left hand.

The thing is, you're not stuck. You have options. Many that include buying an iPhone 4 when/if they address these issues to your satisfaction.

Your kidding right? They have sold over 2 million already, try to find one in stock somewhere. Most of us are happy with them. It is better in every way than my 3GS. These threads are getting very old.

I would wager the reason you can't find one is because they've halted or slowed production to minimize the number they'll have to recall. Or alternatively, they halted production to make a change to the design, which has resulted in the very obvious "shortage" of stock.

Well, this is completely anecdotical so take it with a grain of salt, but yesterday I went to an AT&T store to pay for my wife's go phone. While there I checked out some other phones for my dad, his winmo device is dying. So while I was checking out some phones one person next to me was checking out the bold with one of the employees. At which point I heard him taking about how his "iPhone drops so many calls, it's rediculus" and it turned out he was returning his iPhone and got the bold.

Then when a rep was free I was paying my wifes bill and at the register next to me was someone exchanging their iPhone, and when he got the new one he was commeting to the sales person that he hopes "this one doesn't have the same reception issues as my last one".

The as I was leaving some one was coming in with iPhone box in one hand and an AT&T bag in the other.

It was just an odd scene to me, because I have never seen anyone return an iPhone before.

100% agreed.

No it kinda is fact.. according to Engadget, Walt Mossberg and even Consumer Reports.

Walt Mossberg (Apples puppet) and Engadget reviewed iPhone 4 Prior to it's June 24th release AND before the numerous manufacturing defects and design flaws came to light.

Consumer reports doesn't recommend Iphone 4 from the results of their last scientific antenna test, as a result this is what got Apple doing damage control tomorrow.
