Is it possible that if an apple store ran out of iPhone 5 replacements

If I told you that Apple had stock to replace the original iPhone up until the middle of last year, what would that tell you?
Apple has plenty of stock. So, no. Plain and simply no. Your iPhone will be replaced with the exact same model you walk in with. If that Apple store has no stock (highly unlikely) you'll either be directed to another store or over the phone customer service.
It's only the carriers that run out of stock and replace with something newer.
So If I went to sprint and had no iphone 5 would they replace it with an iphone 5S ? even tho I don't have any warranty ?
If you had TEP, Sprint would direct you to file a claim with Asurion. Once you met your deductible with Asurion then Asurion would send you a refurb. It's possible that the refurb might be a 5s.
But here's another question. Would you want a Sprint/Asurion 5s refurb, or an Apple iPhone 5 refurb? Also, considering that the quality control for refurbs with the cell carriers is far less stringent than Apple?
If you do not have TEP, Sprint would offer to sell you a new phone. Apple would give you the Out of Warranty price if you do not have Applecare+.

I got my launch day iPad 2 64GB AT&T replaced at my local Apple Store last month. I was shocked that they even had it in stock, I was expecting them to have to order it and let me know when it arrived. I guarantee you won't be getting a 5S as a replacement for a 5.
I've read posts about being people receiving a better replacement. However, it is rare and not likely to happen with an iPhone 5 replacement.
OP, I just got back from a little vacation to the year 2065. I broke my iPhone 5 and had to have it replaced at an Apple store. They still had plenty of the iPhone 5 models in stock after all those years. No, you will not get a newer model.
Your best bet is to go back in time to when you purchased the iPhone 5 and just... don't purchase it. Time jump back to the future and buy the phone you really want. Be sure to not post this thread along the way.

Apple even has the iPhone 4S as replacements. iPhone 5 will be in stock for a good while. So OP, stop this with wanting a 5S. Its not going to happen

Nope. They aren't going to run out of stock on a 1 year old model anytime soon. I saw looking over the bench when they opened one of the drawers one time. There were hundreds of white boxes.
