Right on cue!
Just to make sure I understand correctly you do think ppi makes a difference. Or not. I'm not taking sides I'm just trying to understand why when I'm switching back and forth and seeing the same text on different devices, I'm struggling a bit on the iPhone.

Love my 12 Pro Gold, no easily discernible problems, I am sure if I went went looking for something, I could find something.

My opinion is that PPI makes a BIG difference. Some of the best displays on smartphones, ever, are the 401 PPI 5.5” LCDs on iPhones 6-8 Plus. It was a shame when Apple regressed to 326 PPI (264 on iPads Pro and Air, also too low) for the so-called Liquid Retina displays.

While I really like the 458 PPI OLEDs of my 12 Pro Max and X before it, 458 is the absolutely minimum acceptable level for a flagship iPhone. If you don’t already know, look up OLED PenTile subpixels to understand why comparing LCD and OLED PPI is apples vs. oranges.

EDIT: IMO, low PPI is why you’re “struggling a bit...”

Apple has calibrated the iPhone 12 series differently compared to the 11 or XS Max
It takes a week or two of getting used to

The true black problem seems to be on every iPhone 12 a problem. But people don’t see it I think so. You can only see it in a 100% black room but you have to wait for you eyes otherwise you cannot see it.
The yellow tint is normal on the 12 lineup. They calibrated it that way :)

zero raised blacks on my iphone 12 64gb

Update: Issue was addressed in iOS 14.5 beta 2. A lot of users already reported the raised blacks issue as being fixed after installing the new update!

Ive had 4 iPhone 12's (don't ask) and none had screen problems.

They all had warmer displays than my XS but that's not a fault as some people claim and more how apple calibrated the screen.

My posting was pointing specifically to the raised blacks, not the yellow screen “problem”. Raised blacks are very wide spread. The normal 12s doesn’t seem to be affected as much though. Yellow tints are very unlikely to be altered with by any upcoming software update cause of what you said, it’s the way they’re calibrated.

My post wasn't aimed at yours btw it was a response to the original post.

Yes the most of the iPhones 12 have an OLED problem ...
They can only show true blacks at brightness over ~70%. ...

I feel as though this is a myth that re-emerges with every single OLED based iPhone since the X, lol. Unfortunately with OLED screens you do sometimes get poorer quality ones or a bad batch at some point during production but time and time again it’s often a very small number, it seems their production is nowhere near as consistent as LCD, as OLED are apparently much harder to make with very low yields.

Well, just that with the 12 series, sadly it's no myth at all. Various people went through 7,8, oder even 10+ devices from different month of production from different factories only to find the same issues again and again. I myself had 3 devices with this issue. But, to be honest, even though I inspect my new Phones very thoroughly, I probably wouldn't have noticed this one if I didn't read about it. So for the vast majority of people it's not an issue. I hope 14.5 does a good job in covering this flaw to a degree even people sensitiv to the issue can live with it.

It’s not an issue. It’s the way Apple has decided to recalibrate the screen to a warmer look. Yes there are iPhones with issues of Green screen etc out there but I’m talking about the general appearance of the screen which is different than last year

I’ll seek professional help before I re-buy any smartphone 10 times.
