This is off topic. I had a standard MPX 580 on my computer. A friend donated an MPX 5500. Initially, I plugged the 5500 into slot 3 as a test drive and it showed both PCI slot information and VGA data. I even took an image of it (I read on some forums that it didn't show anything, but I had no problems). For now, I removed the 580 (from slot 1) and only installed the 5500.

My question is: would leaving the 580 in slot 3 have a positive effect on rendering etc.? Or would it be unnecessary? In short, I don't prefer to leave the card idle, sincerely.

Hello everyone
I managed to buy a MacPro 7.1 cheaply and I'm already having problems with it :(
The machine contains a Radeon Pro 580x card
and has two HDMI outputs
I connected the monitor to one output and the other to an LG UHD TV
There are 2 problems!
One is that there is no image on the monitor or if there is, colored dots appear and the image flashes
I tried changing the HDMI cable and also tried swapping the 2 HDMI ports and the same thing happened
the TV screen would be fine but for some reason the top bar is not visible
and underscan is not enabled!
The image adjustment problem experienced with the MacPro 5.1 is also present on this machine
Even though the TV is connected with the correct HDMI cable, for some reason a refresh rate higher than 60Hz is not listed!
but the biggest problem is the flickering and grainy image on the monitor! Sometimes there is no image at all only after I unplug and reconnect the monitor's HDMI cable!
I also thought that the video card was faulty, but then the TV screen would also be grainy
Please, if anyone knows a solution, write it down
Thank you in advance for your help.

Glad to hear you found a cheap Mac Pro.
Now, to your problems with the monitor.
I think I would try to get an Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display, with Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter.
It will let you connect the monitor to any of the Thunderbolt ports on the Mac Pro, as the 580x card is MPX, and routes the graphics over the Thunderbolt system.
The display is pretty good, especially for a 1440p resolution. In addition, it has speakers and camera built in.

The display is old, and should be quite cheap these days. But most importantly, it works well with the Mac Pro.
And if the 580x can´t give good image with it, the card could be faulty.

If the underscan/overscan option is not available then it is probably a setting on the TV; look for the sizing adjustments and set it to full or fit or something like that.

You are not going to get any refresh rates above 60Hz with a TV connected.

Please describe grainy. TVs are not like computer monitors, usually their dpi is lower because most people sit between 4-6ft when viewing TVs.

Also what models are your monitor and TV. You might have better luck with a USB-C (Thunderbolt) > HDMI adapter; provided the 580X is the MPX version.

Thanks!

Meanwhile, it turned out that the HDMI connector on my monitor was broken, I think it was a contact failure.
I have now connected the monitor with an HDMI-DVI cable but there are still problems
When the system loads and I enter the password, the monitor goes to a black screen until I turn the monitor off and back on again.
Sometimes only colored dots appear on the monitor!
It could be that the video card is faulty!? (MPX)

New problems have also arisen
I installed Windows 10 using BootCamp
The Magic mouse and keyboard did not work under Windows, so I connected the old wired keyboard and wireless mouse to the computer!
After I returned to MacOS, my Magic Mouse and Keyboard no longer want to work
for some reason it won't even connect
how can I reconnect it?

By the way, the MacPro 5.1 also ran at 120 Hz resolution on the TV!
It is true that with the help of a utility!

120 HZ works by default under Windows!

This to me sounds like a video card issue. Can you swap another card into the machine?
I would like to transfer the rx6600xt card used in MacPro 5.1 to 7.1 because the 580x isn't that fast anyway.
The machine also includes an AfterBurner card, this card can also work with the rx6600xt
I tried the Filmora video editor yesterday and I didn't notice that AfterBurner was worth anything
Maybe not all video editing programs can use it

All the afterburner does, is hardware decode of ProRes encoded video, so your timeline is more responsive in a ProRes workflow editing app.

It’s really a very limited use-case device, afaik.

In that case I think I'll try to sell it
Unfortunately the Magic mouse didn't work either because the image keeps jumping up and down while browsing due to the sensor "wheel"
I just can't use the mouse without touching its surface.
Unfortunately, the Magic keyboard is not backlit, so I think I'll try to sell that too.
Later I will expand the machine with at least a 12-core processor and the corresponding RAM.

Thanks!

Apple bluetooth devices can only pair to a single device; so pairing it to Windows is different than pairing it to OS X. I have my keyboard always plugged into my Dell monitor with has built in KVM for my 3 computers hooked to it. I despise Apple mice, so I have a Logitech that is not bluetooth doing the same as the keyboard.

I just managed to get the magic mouse and keyboard working under windows
But unfortunately this Magic Mouse is unusable!
Simply unmanageable
very nice but other than that there is no advantage!
Instead of the sensor roller, they should have put a traditional wheel and then it would be usable.

Have you installed Apple drivers in Windows?

I installed it using BootCamp! The mouse and keyboard have been working ever since.

How do I get the boot menu on the MP 7.1?
Is it possible with a wireless keyboard?

Can I install Windows11 using rufus?
BootCamp only supports Windows 10 due to lack of TPM

You should have the boot menu when you hold the option key on startup.

It should work with a wireless keyboard - on the cMP 5,1 it was sometimes a keyboard issue if it didn't work and frequently wireless was a problem. I have not heard of something similar on the 7,1. I use a magic keyboard though I keep it wired.

To upgrade your Windows 10 installation to Windows 11 use the server version to do an inplace upgrade to perserve your data. The server version doesn't do the hardware checks. Here is a pretty good article on how to do that - https://pureinfotech.com/upgrade-windows-11-unsupported-hardware/

Unfortunately I have to replace the MPX 580 Pro card with an rx 6600xt because there are many problems with the MPX
I'm not sure which power cable I should buy for it?
If I buy 2 of this cable it will be good?

Thanks

That cable should work.

Here's what I bought - a complete set - https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MP19AUXPWR/ which is similar to what Apple sells from Belkin - https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HQY92ZM/A/belkin-aux-power-cable-kit-for-mac-pro - though cheaper.

Not cheap :(
I would need a cable that goes into the motherboard connector on one end and a 2-8 pin connector on the other end that goes into the video card!
It would be cheaper and the set would be unnecessary because I wouldn't use the other cables anyway.
There are several connectors on the motherboard, but I don't think it matters which one I connect the video card to !?
Unfortunately, the 580 pro displays HDR incorrectly and the image is blurry and dark even during games :(
I think it's because the driver is too old
I'm better off replacing the card

Thanks

I am not sure why you are having issues with your MPX 580x; I still have mine installed also and it seems to work fine for whatever. As you can see from my screen shots, I have a 17" HDR capable monitor and a Dell Ultrawide. The 17" is being run off the 580x and the Ultrawide off the 6800 Duo.

Although I will say that a non-HDR image background looks wonky on the 17" if I switch it to HDR mode, but HDR videos look ok using the Display P3 color mode. Personally unless you are doing video editing in HDR the need for HDR is pretty minimal.

Out of curiosity, did you do a complete fresh macOS install after receiving this computer? Also what version of macOS are you running?

Thanks

True though the OWC one is much better than buying from Apple.

I purchased the set because I think it will be increasingly hard to get parts for our Mac Pro 7,1 over time.

Make sure you understand how much power your 6600xt needs - you might need two cables. If I recall there are two 8 Pin PCIe power connectors on the motherboard - both provide 300Watts. Confirm what your 6600xt needs and get the right cables accordingly.

I would try and download the driver installation package for Windows from AMD directly and try and install that to see if it makes a difference for the 580

I tried the HDR setting on Windows 10 and the subtitles are barely visible.
The picture is dark in games and the performance is not up to my expectations.
Unfortunately, the driver for this card is also very outdated.
The video card may be faulty because every time I boot up after entering the password I get a black screen until I turn the monitor off and back on!
It could also be because of the HDMI-DP adapter?
If I have time, I'll repair the HDMI connector on the monitor, which broke, and if I get a black screen even with an HDMI cable, then the video card is definitely at fault.

Unfortunately, with the Magic Keyboard, the bottmenu doesn't want to come up even though I hold down the Option key :(
Switching between MacOS and Windows isn't that easy

Thanks for the advice about the cable!

I downloaded the Adrenalin installer from AMD's website and it didn't recognize the card!
The driver that BootCamp installs is very outdated and it seems that there is no newer version for this video card.
I think switching to rx6600xt is the best option
It also performed well in MP 5.1!

What version do you have? 21.30.44.22 is the latest from June 17th this year.

yes, this version is installed!
When I start the game Until Dawn, the system warns me that a newer driver is required for the game to function properly!
And what's really annoying is that after every boot it goes to a black screen and rarely colored dots appear!
I'm thinking it's a video card failure, but the strange thing is that after I turn the monitor off and back on, there's a picture again.
