No it's not. 20% is 20% and both insurances cover accidents. $200 for a $1000 phone for 2 years, would be no different than paying $8000 for 2 years on a $40,000 vehicle. Go ahead and pay the $200, but you are getting ripped off.

If I had the choice I would like to have 20% on a 1 million $ instead of 20% on 10k $, see my point, it's not in the same ballpark.

I don't understand the hate here, it's obvious that a more expensive device will cost more to fix. Apple is pricing AppleCare accordingly.

Since you can buy an iPad Pro for $1,279 and still only pay $99 för AppleCare it's understandable that people are upset about an iPhone X for $999 with twice the price for AppleCare.

Been on Apple since 94' Classic days. You've lost me.Im testing a Samsung. Hate it. Android is clunky and not as nice. But wanting me to send near 2k for a phone and all ancillary bits to get full proxy out of phone is INSANE. The charger bs.

I love Apple, but who are you selling too. The new update has near bricked my phone now. That was 960$ with AppleCare. X phone near $1249 sans tax. Than AC. lol.

I know only one person who got an 8. One person who pre ordered a X. Are you not noticing that?

But Asurion replacements are refurbished by Asurion.. not Apple... and they do a piss poor job of it. I used to work for Asurion. Let’s just say that I’ve had customers call to complain about their replacements and have seen people get their phone replaced 5 times because of problems with their replacements. I am pretty sure they are not using genuine parts from Apple either.

This isn't true. My girl had cracked her phone twice within the last year and both were replaced with brand new iPhone 7s.

I have stopped buying AppleCare for my iOS devices, but, still tend to get it for my Macintosh systems. With regards to iPods and iOS devices, there is little reason to get it now, as we no longer have spinning hard drives in devices these days, and, if you are carefull in use simply having a savings account makes more sense in my case.

The last time I ended up using my AppleCare was with my 2nd generation iPod Touch. Sadly it was a waste on many further devices, enough that I could have paid cash for nearly 2 iPhone X phones with the funds I spent.

Its another disgusting thing that Apple does that I (like the good sheep I am) pay for every time I get a new iPhone.

Ive said it once, ill say it again: AppleCare+ should be free for all products as a way of Apple giving back to the public that have made it an almost trillion dollar company.

Apples Greed is absolutely boundless. Im still shaking my head that X doesnt come with airpower in the box!
YOU’RE SHAKING YOUR HEAD ABOUT THAT?????? WHAATT????? IM SHAKING MY HEAD THAT THEY INCLUDE 5W CHARGER IN THE BOX!!!!!!! THEY SHOULD INCLUDE 29W CHARGER FOR FAST CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's cause in the past the X would have taken the iPhone 8 price point .

False. The iPhone 8 is a brand-new iPhone and a great one, and it's selling for pretty much the same price as every other new iPhone has. The iPhone X is NEXT YEAR'S IPHONE that you can buy today for a small premium. The reason for the premium is that Samsung and other suppliers are taxing Apple on the parts before Apple can build a solid supply chain. It literally costs Apple $150+ just for the display part to replace on an iPhone X. And you want Apple to continue charging for $129 for fixing w/o AppleCare? A Samsung employee could walk out of the Apple store, slam it on the ground, bring it back to get fixed for $129, and repeat that 100x per day to make a fortune for Samsung.

Stop the conspiracy theories. LBJ didn't kill JFK and Tim Cook is not trying to steal your life savings. If you think X is priced too high then don't buy one.

Technology has advanced therefore the cost has advanced.
No, that's not how it works. Costs don't automatically go up just because the technology is better. Why would you think that? Companies have R&D budgets and do have to cover those costs with their pricing, but there's no reason to think Apple spends more on R&D for iPhones today than they did 5 or 10 years ago. Probably the opposite, since the product is so mature, and each new generation is just iterative now. It costs no more to produce 2017 cutting edge technology in 2017 than it did to produce 2013 cutting edge technology in 2013.

People complain about Apple’s prices because they want the newest iPhone with the old iPhone prices.
Other than the cost of inflation, which is near zero these days, there's no inherent reason Apple's best iPhone in 2017 should cost more than it did in 2013. R&D doesn't necessarily cost more, production doesn't necessarily cost more, inflation is minimal. It's simply increasing the price to what the market will bear.

Extended warranties are NEVER worth it.

Businesses don't sell products that lose money.

Isurance only works on the basis more people buy it than need/use it.

I’ve never bothered to buy it for my iPhone or iPad. But bought it for my two Macs. My iMac I never had to use it. But my 2011 MacBook Pro had a few problems over the 3 years, all repairs free. So definitely worth it there.

Here in Aus we also have consumer law which covers products making it even less valuable.

Apple Care used to be good, but now it's just ridiculous. Only works for 2 years. I've never broken a screen on any of my iPhones. I only got water damage on my iPhone 4 because I was too brave with the LifeProof Case and had to pay $50 upfront on top of Apple Care. I'm sticking with AT&T Insurance now, $7 a month. I'm using that $200 to go towards a OtterBox case, life time warranty Zagg Glass screen protector, and accessories.

Worth it for Macs bc replacing the keyboard or track pad on my Mac is like $800. Sucks I'm out of warranty though, but I did take advantage on a new Retina Screen because of dead pixels.

Here's hoping some legitimate company comes out with DIY iPhone X screen repair kits.

No.

Broken glass backs happen. At a minimum of $300 to fix one, and $550 without insurance, this isnt a phone for those who worry about cash and if you are not worried about cash you don't need accident insurance.

Ebay will be littered with X's with smashed backs in 12 months when the 9 (11?) Is released.

AppleCare is overpriced, the cost to do a battery replacement on any iPhone is way beyond what the actual cost of doing it yourself is. More than a large fraction of the money is going to labor, not the actual part that needs replacing.

What most people don’t know is that Apple will give you a refund for unused AppleCare+. Say you only use it for a year, if you keep your receipt, Apple will give you a store credit for the pro-rated amount remaining to spend as you like. I use it every year to buy my accessories for my next iPhone, Apple Watch, or MacBook

Yep. Been doing this as long as I’ve had iPhones. After a year you get a refund that essentially cuts the cost of a new AppleCare plan in half. Hell, I’m about to do this with my 8+, so protection for my X is damn near paid for already.

Without doing things this way I’m not sure if I’d be down to pay full price year after year for AppleCare.

That sounds like something they should bake into the advertising. Either way, I'm not buying it.

After spending at least a thousand dollars on a brand new iPhone X, you may be debating whether it's really worth it to spend an additional few hundred dollars on an AppleCare+ plan to insure your shiny new smartphone.

applecare-for-iphone-x.jpg

AppleCare+ is an optional, premium warranty plan that extends an iPhone's warranty coverage to two years from the original purchase date of the device, and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage.

AppleCare+ for iPhone X costs $199 upfront, compared to $129 for the iPhone 8 and $149 for the iPhone 8 Plus. As with virtually any form of insurance, AppleCare+ only pays for itself in the event you accidentally damage your device.

To determine if AppleCare+ is worthwhile, we first must look at how much it will cost to repair the iPhone X without the coverage.

iphone-x-service-repair-fees.jpg

Apple recently confirmed it will charge out-of-warranty rates of $279 for iPhone X screen repairs, and $549 for any other damage to the device, unless it is a manufacturing defect covered by Apple's standard one-year limited warranty.

With AppleCare+ for iPhone X, the price of a repair would be the $199 upfront cost of the plan plus a $29 to $99 incidental fee.

If you shatter your iPhone X's screen once, for example, you would pay $279 out of warranty. With the upfront cost of AppleCare+ coupled with the screen repair incidental fee, you would pay $228, so purchasing the plan can save you money in the long run if an accident happens.

If you shatter your iPhone X's back glass, having AppleCare+ is even more worthwhile. Apple's flat rate is $549 for this type of damage, while the upfront cost of AppleCare+ coupled with a $99 incidental fee totals $298.

The chart below shows that AppleCare+ will save you money in the long run if you damage your iPhone X in any way just once in two years.

applecare-iphone-x.jpg

Even if you never damage your iPhone X, AppleCare+ has one additional perk that can be quite valuable: 24/7 priority access to Apple support advisors via phone or online chat for two years after your iPhone X's purchase date. Without it, iPhone users are covered by just 90 days of complimentary telephone support.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer as to whether AppleCare+ is worth it, as it very much depends on how careful you are. But given the iPhone X's out-of-warranty repair fees are quite high, it may be more worthwhile than ever.

AppleCare+ can be purchased through Apple's online or retail stores. If not purchased alongside the iPhone, it can be added within 60 days, pending a diagnostic test to ensure no damage has occurred in that time.

It's also worth noting that if you cancel your AppleCare+ plan before the two-year coverage period expires, you'll get a partial refund based on the percentage of unexpired coverage, minus the value of any service already provided. A cancellation fee of $25 or 10 percent of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less, applies.

All prices above are listed in U.S. dollars. AppleCare+ and Apple's out-of-warranty repair fees vary in other countries.

[doublepost=1509316087][/doublepost]Here in the UK it is cheaper to simply insure the iPhone. Better coverage, no limit to number of claims, loss and theft are also covered which is not the case with Apple Care. I did the figures, insurance is better value.

The iPhone "X" is all glass body..... so the answer would be yes. unless you get a case.

You've already spend a thousand anyway,,, what's a few hundred more?

ROTFL...those could be the more epically dumb statements I’ve ever seen.

BMW and the likes must be happy that all the R&D money was spent by good ol Ford, now they’re all just banking on that wheels on an engine invention...

PS
Apple R&D spending was 0.8 Billions in 2007, and 10.1 Billions in 2016.
