As for the fries, whenever I go to McD's it seems like they're making new batches every few minutes, so I figure if you go to a busy restaurant, they won't be too old...

Which is great if you go during the busy times, but if you go to any fast food restaurant during the off peak times, you're going to get some nasty, cold fries.

I can't stand "fast-food" joints. While I'll take my kids there from time to time (not on a regular basis because the foods so bad for you) I avoid eating any of the stuff.

Just watch super-size me and you'll see how bad it is for your health and well being.

When I was kid (sound like my father and wicked old) McDonalds or Burger King was a treat, now so many people eat there all the time. Consuming so much of that highly processed, fatty high caloric food cannot and is not good for you

It's OK in moderation. Having a quarter pounder and fries once a month (about how often I eat fast food) isn't really a big deal.

fresh-fries, sounds like french fries...

we all know that communication through the drive through speaker can be difficult, at times.
my guess, when you asked 'do you have fresh fries', the girl wearing the headset inside probably thought you asked 'do you have french fries', and responded in the positive by asking what size you want.

i can't help but think back to the 'large orange drink' drive-trhu window skit i saw somewhere...("say it! say it! large.. orange.. drink!")
how many times have any of us lived out that nightmare of ordering through a clowns head.

What u sorry for my burger is made fresh!
That was an 'ewww' in general (for your McD's having the old-style system).

You get yours fresh because you special-order it, whereas they all come fresh at the McD's over here.

When everyone special orders their food it's no longer "Fast".

Go inside if your going to special order. If I'm in the drive through that implies that I'm in a hurry.

:p

and Gav2k, if your really that sensitive to food you shouldn't eat at any restaurant. As a Chef I can tell you that no kitchen is a sterile environment. For example there's an old trick to use pickle juice to clean grills that Ive seen people use in the past. You never really know....

Yep. Super Size Me was flawed from the start by incorporating that premise that he was going to order pretty much whatever, and whenever he was asked if he wanted to upsize, he would automatically say yes.

I mean, you might as well make a movie about Best Buy being con artists because you walk in to buy a $1000 TV and if you say yes to everything they offer you, you'll walk out with a 5-year "product service plan", a Monster HDMI cable, a new BluRay player, a home theater sound system, and end up spending thousands of dollars more. Bottom line, if you're going to allow yourself to be taken advantage of, don't be surprised that you've become a victim in the end!

As far as the food itself goes, you could just as easily binge on salad and fruit and do just as much damage to your body. Note in particular the one response where someone ate at McDonald's, ordered carefully off the menu and ate in moderation, and lost weight (note also Jared of Subway fame). It can be done.

I think it's a case of I've live with this for 24 years and have accepted the fact that I have to be careful. There are other foods that can do the same to me and I am overly careful before I eat.

I tell you what is good though watching a mcdonalds manager sack someone on the spot!

Oh if you're 24, fine, do what you like. Sorry you sounded like a teenager before.

I've lived in London for nearly 10 years, and I've only ever eaten in McD's once in that time. If you want chips, which I do, there's so many lovely chippies around - turkish, chinese, traditional chippies (rare), mostly turkish kebabbies though. Have to say, the turkish do chips far better than McD's.

My daughter's never eaten in McD's in London. I assert my right as a parent to protect her from ***** food :D

Even if you don't live in London, in some barren food desert up north, away from the decent cafes of Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow, there's still good eating if you look hard.

That's interesting you have such a reaction to pickles, is it the same with cucumbers?

Like everyone said above, if you are that dangerously allergic to them, I would certainly take your order inside so you can stress the importance of no pickles.

When I was a cook and someone told me "no mushrooms on the sizzler", I would always ask if it's for health reasons or they just don't like mushrooms. If it's for health reasons, I have to clean that part of the grill and cook the steak separately and use separate tongs and use an extra hot skillet. If they just didn't like mushrooms then I just have to make sure I don't put mushrooms on the steak.

Same goes for steak seasoning. If it's really busy and someone has that kind of request, the counter people tell me (as a manager) and I will go back and deal with it myself just to be on the safe side.

My first job was at a McDonald's, and I often had to work the fries and drive-through. I absolutely hated when people would ask for fresh fries. If you're going during the day, your fries will almost certainly be fresh without you asking. You just create more unnecessary work for whoever got stuck on fries.

Instead, just ask for fries with no salt, and put your own salt after you get them if you want it. It is a more reasonable request than asking for fresh fries when fries were just made two minutes earlier.

The worst types of people are the ones that would ask for fresh fries just as we were getting ready to close/clean everything. Don't do that.

Back in my university days I used to have MacDonalds twice a week, I still do whenever I'm in town. But to say its flat out bad for you and use a film as evidence for this, just no. During my uni days I only ate homemade food and Macdonalds (sometimes a Boots Meal Deal but not the healthy option) and lived off energy drinks, yet I could go on day long hikes without any problem, had 3 breaths per minute at rest, low blood pressure etc. In moderation it does no harm. If you're going to eat supersized meals breakfast, noon and dinner then of course you're going to end up like the guy in the film. I'm sure he explained that in the film.*

Is it wrong to ask? Probably not. I didn't even know you could request that. Makes no difference to me though since I only go Macdonalds in either the Trafford Centre or in the Arndale, they're so busy everything I've ordered has been piping hot. Doesn't take longer if I ask for no pickles!

* This was when I used to use public transport and walked 30 mins across to town to my campus almost every day. Exercise, as ever, helps. Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess if people used their legs a bit more. /soapbox

No cucumber is fine. Though my allergies have no real pattern

pickles
strawberries
malt vinigar
shaving foam or gel

strawberries just cause a bloody itchy rash the others more violent tbh.

I have three steroid injecions a year for hayfever/dust alleries.

All fun but I'm not locking myself in a box.

Like others have said, you should NOT order burgers from McDonald's. Why risk your life at all??? You should learn to avoid obvious dangers for your own sake. BTW, I've never seen a McDonald's restaurant that serves pre-made burgers, so stop lying.

The mcdonalds everywhere pre-make burgers when they are busy, thats why they have those little metal chutes that can hold more than one burger at a time.

I don't think that's really the case. The kitchen people would "grill" a lot of burgers at once, but I don't recall them ever making any ahead of time. If you have a meat patty ready, it should only take about 10-15 seconds to put all of the toppings and bun on, so there isn't really a need to pre-make any burgers, especially since a lot of people didn't get all of the "standard" toppings. I suppose its different for a really busy McDonald's at dinner time or something, but the one I worked at never pre-made burgers.

Ask for fries to be unsalted. They will cook up a new batch for you.:D
If you want fresh burgers just ask them to be unseasoned, same as above.
Just a couple tips my younger brother told me (he worked at McDonalds)
That's the trick I've been using for years. And no, I've never worked in the food service industry. It's one thing I've vowed to myself never to do.

I think most people should take a really bad job in some customer service industry at some point in their life. It's disgusting how bad some customers treat employees. I only had that McDonald's job for 6 months about 6-7 years ago, but since having it, I have an appreciation for the crap those people have to put up with.

That's exactly why I won't mess with people's food. It's hard enough working in retail. The old adage goes, "the customer is always right." But everyone who has worked in a service industry knows that it's actually, "the customer is usually wrong."

This happened to me the other day, the fries from McDonald's were very soggy and ice cold... I just went through the drive through again and politely asked for some new fries, they were nice enough and just replaced them with fresh ones! I have worked in fast food before and when the customer's food order wasn't right or it wasn't up to par and the person was polite, then I had no problem fixing it. But when they got angry or demanding I had a hard time doing what they wanted, even though I did it anyway....

I may have to start asking. The last 3 times I've been to In-N-Out, their fries have been REALLY sub-par. And they're usually some of the best in the (fast food) business, IMO.

Quoted for truth, worked at a convenient store for a couple years.
