Quoted for truth, worked at a convenient store for a couple years.

Same here. After I left McDonald's I went to go work at a convenience store/gas station for a couple of years. Then I worked as a janitor for a little while. I've had some pretty terrible jobs.

The preparation of fast food is not for the faint at heart.

Over here in Germany, there are no minimum wages, and Mc D.'s employees are at the lower end of what you can earn in any job. Some of them don't speak any German other than their set of prepared phrases like "Eat here or to go?" or "Do you want fried with that?"

Some of them would be lost with anything you say to them except the precoined phrases they've learned during training.

Most likely, your demand triggers a response like "Whaddayamean - fresh?", but before they could say it, they realize that this might not be a fortunate thing to say to a customer who's buying food.

What language do they speak? I never really thought of germany having a bunch of immigrants.

When I was in Germany, practically everyone there I ran into spoke English (and pretty well I might add) except for the McDonalds I went to in Wolfsburg. I had to point to what I wanted to on the menu.

Then I realized it's the exact same thing here in the US. I had my McNuggets, french fries, and obtained them by speaking to someone with no grasp of the English language. I felt like I was at home :D

And I don't know why I went to a McDs either....kinda seems like a sin, doesn't it, what with all the real food around? It was raining, I had time to kill until my train back to Berlin, and it was right there by the Autostadt, I suppose that's why.

I think most people should take a really bad job in some customer service industry at some point in their life. It's disgusting how bad some customers treat employees. I only had that McDonald's job for 6 months about 6-7 years ago, but since having it, I have an appreciation for the crap those people have to put up with.
Been there, done that. I worked at a Mickey Ds for a couple months when I was 15, and some customers just treat you like ****. For some reason, one particular jackass customer, I remember. We were in a mall food court, and this guy came up to me with a Chick-fil-A cup and asked me if I could refill it with soda at no charge. When I told him no, since he didn't get the drink from us, he flipped out, got pissed, yelled at me and left.
