When I was five or six or so, I decided at some point that I wasn't interested in eating. This kept up for 2 to 3 days and totally freaked my mother out because she couldn't make me eat.I'm gone for like one week, and people are already running circles around my inane threads.![]()
Eventually I decided that maybe I'd try it again and ate some grapes.
Hunger is just another irritant, like itch. It comes and goes but can pretty much be ignored.

If American's served dinner for breakfast, I'd be on board. But everyone seems to be interested in stuff I have no interest in.Like some of the posters hear mentioned, I find breakfast food to be horrible. I can't stand cereal, oatmeal, bacon/eggs, etc... People always comment how I eat strange foods for breakfast. I like salads (heavy chef salads from Winco), cold pizza, hard boiled eggs, bagels, something actually edible. My desk drawers are stocked with Cliff bars but I find those don't hold me over till 11am lunch. Bagels with cream cheese are becoming a staple for me.
Back in 2011 I did an extreme diet... I had a peanut butter sandwich (no jelly) and some fruit/veggies once a day (not 100% consistently). I ran 1-2 miles every night and made sure to take a vitamin at least every other day. I lost 40+ pounds in 3-4 months.
Your body adapts to how you eat. When I did the extreme diet, anything bigger than a sandwich made me feel full and bloated. I felt great and had noticeably fewer restroom visits. Probably wasn't very healthy but I can see how we could live on eating every few days, but I don't think we'd be able to keep up an office job or anything that requires brain power.
I get a massive bag of Cara Cara oranges from Costco. I'll have 1-2 of these when I wake up with a handful of unsalted cashews then a cup of black coffee. A cliff bar or salad or a bagel after that usually holds me over to lunch. I usually don't eat dinner if I can help it. I bring 2-3 oranges to work to snack on if I'm getting too hungry in-between meals.
I'm trying to get my diet back under control. Even though I can run 2+ miles without stopping (11-12 min miles), my weight has ballooned over the last 5 years so time to start dieting again.
You mentioned oatmeal. My wife is an oatmeal fiend. I'm not. My dad's breakfast when I was little was always Malt 'O Meal with brown sugar and that's what I was fed some times. I learned to hate oatmeal and Malt 'O Meal is only slightly better.
I've just never understood why fries and a hamburger, a steak, maybe chicken nuggets or a pizza can't start your day. Unfortunately, American society does not agree and the only restaurants open at the time I'm looking for this sort of thing are serving breakfast.
It's gotten easier in the last ten years or so since restaurants have started to serve BOTH breakfast and dinner all day but in the 80s and 90s? McDonald's doesn't serve lunch until 10:30am. You get to know when the restaurant lunch times begin. And so you don't eat until then because nothing is being offered that you want until then.
Whatever, I've never been in sync with stupid American society anyway. American workdays are from 8am to 5pm and I function on an 8pm to 5am schedule so nothing new. here. I've never been a morning or breakfast person and none of what American society does encourages me to be otherwise.
