I'm waiting. I have an original CoreDuo White MacBook, which is slowly falling to pieces.

I'm hoping Apple has first dibs on the IvyBridge processors and the refresh will happen March/April time

I know your hoping for march april time and id love to see that as well but i think with the ipad 3 launch at the beginning of march will steal the spotlight for awhile before we see other apple updates.

I'm also waiting to see what comes out over the next few months. My 2.16GHz C2D MBP (w/ ATI Radeon X1600 video card; purchased in March 2007) won't be supported by Mountain Lion (& has constant system freezes/graphics issues w/ Lion), so it's definitely time for me to make a change, unfortunately. Hate to say it, but I'm also considering going back to a Windows machine

Isn't Ivy Bridge delayed until June / Summer time?

If anything, I'd take the plunge right now.

I'm now hoping we'll see an announcement about the changes to the Mac lineup during the March press event (when they introduce the iPad 3).

I suspect they may release the new MacBook Pros with OS X Mountain Lion, which by the way is too late. I want one now!

Already took the dive, bought a new 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 i7 late last year offering more than enough power for my present needs. I am still working mostly on my old 08 C2D 2.4 15" Pro, the new machine will come into it`s own in the next month or so...

As for a 2012 machine, I will let Apple shall we say refine them a little if they do make signifiant changes to the design ;)

I have the exact same model of 2008 as you! I've started to get back in the market for a new one recently though as my battery charger became a smotten ruin (went *pop* and smelled like burning plastic) and my battery seemed like it was starting to die for a 3rd time before that happened. Thankfully, I don't have to buy anything immediately as I have an iPad2 and a work computer. However, I still have the itch for a new MBP, but my interest has been peaked by the probably MBA form and new chipset

That' s another rumor, like the rumor about it being released in April. Take it with a grain of salt.

There are rumors and rumors.

The April 8 release for Intels Ivy Bridge CPUs was based on leaked information that Intel was giving out to it's partners. The june/july delay seems to be from a similar source. While these are no official announcements, the information is somewhat trustable.
Intel has to inform their corporate customers... they can't keep everything secret like Apple!

Now, the above does not imply anything for when the MBPs will come. It just seems unlikely that there will be an update before IB is released.

I couldn't care less for ivy bridge. A c2d was already sufficient for me.

I am only looking forward for a redesign and a better screen. There are tablets with higher resolutions than every single laptop out there that are coming out very soon! How that even is that possible? Where is the innovation when it comes to displays for laptops?

Now that Intel has delayed the Ivy Bridge chip set until June which of course probably pushes back a new MBP a month or maybe more.

Given the delay, any of you folks changing for plans for waiting for Ivy Bridge?

Sure. Might as well. New form factor would be nice too.

When I was buying my MBP last year, I waited until Sandy Bridge before buying. For me the changes from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge aren't enough to warrant upgrading already. Although the change in form factor might be tempting, I'll wait until next year when we get Macs with Haswell chips. The jump from Sandy Bridge to Haswell will be better.

what kind of new form factor???

I've no idea. Obviously, notebooks are notebooks in the general sense, so I really should have said a new industrial design not a new form factor. All of Apple's notebooks have power and enough to spare for me; but if I'm going to get one I might as well wait for the latest thing. If that comes with a nice shiny new wrapper then great; if not....eh. It'll still be a terrific computer.

I'm in the process of selling my early '11 to purchase a late '11 with the 2.4GHz on the 15". I do NOT want to have anything that resembles a MBA. I will be so disappointed if that happens. I like to have a little beef in my laptop. Not something that looks like a Frisbee :/ I like having the 750GB HDD as a secondary in this. Not sure how well that would fit if it was in an Air.

Don't know if Ivy Bridge offers as much apart from the redesign for the MBPs. I am going for a MBA 13 so i don't think waiting for Ivy is a good idea, but if someone is buying the MBP then waiting is a pretty good idea IMO

Yep, as per usual, any info you read from DigiTimes is hogwash. No delays for the MBP.

I can see this may mean Apple will refresh only the 15" and 17" (these are the only ones with the quad cores currently) with the Ivy Bridge processors and completely remove the 13" from the lineup or we'll see a refresh of the 13" MBP with a quad. Interesting.

That makes things a little more interesting then. I could personally justify buying a MBP today knowing that I won't see it until middle/late summer. Seeing something come out of Cupertino late spring/early summer makes it harder to spend the $$

Yep. But hold on just a tinny bit :D. April will be here in a jiffy.

...then May is a few days away. :D

Are single core Ivys going to be more powerful than quad core Sandys?

Do single core ivy's even exist?

I have a Feb 2011 13" MBP. I'm not sure what I'm going to upgrade to, but do intend to upgrade. I think 13" is just about the ideal mobile size, followed by 15". I would really like to get the 15", but do have a feeling I will be going with a 13" again.

Either way I will likely wait until the IB Airs are released to decide. I'm actually looking at it from a cost point of view too. I have a buyer for my current 13" MBP, I'm getting about $1000 out of that deal, and have a budget set of about $2000 (including the money from the sale of my current) that I'm willing to spend this year.

I'm trying to figure out what I would get more use out of; A new 15" MBP, or a combination 11" or 13" MBA and a loaded Mac mini mounted to the back of a monitor. They both have their pros and cons...

Regardless, after this year's purchase I should be set for the next 3-4 years.

I am really happy with the performance and overall package the 15" 2.4 i7 offers there will always be something better coming. The performance compared to my 08 machine is literally "night & day" and will serve me well for several years.

I also have a 2011 13" i5 Air and it too is a great performer, if the 2012 Air gets a big jump I may be tempted just be able to have that little more flexibility on the road
