I just checked the monthly fee for iup for the 256gb iPhone pro and it’s about $57 a month which over 12 months is about $684. That’s significantly cheaper than the standard $1200ish.
If that’s all correct that’s pretty much A no brainer if you upgrade every year

64gb is a joke especially with the 4K video file sizes and larger photo files these new cameras produce.

You're paying half the cost of the phone to NOT own it... seems legit.

I would bet they manufacture and sell a lot of the 64GB phones. Most people are non tech and will just opt for the most affordable option. My prediction would be that the $699 iPhone 11 will be the best seller this year.
I’d put my money on the 128gb model. It’s an easy and affordable up sell imo. “Look at all this cool stuff you can do with the new iPhone 11 but you might want to consider getting the 128gb model if you want to really use all the exciting new stuff.”

This. Some of the posters in these threads need to look beyond the kind of people that post here. The average buyer isn't looking to take a bunch of 4k videos and most wouldn't know how much storage those videos will use and how much is needed. They compare the different phones at the store and don't notice a huge difference between the $700 and the $1000-$1100 phones and with price being a big consideration, they'll pick up the base storage $700 phone. They want an iPhone and it's the least expensive way to get one. Whether some of the technophiles on this forum think it is right or wrong or stupid or smart is meaningless.

There are IUP issues for first timers. If you are doing IUP FOR the first time then trade in can be more convoluted. You have to do a trade in after the fact and the store may only issue an AS gift card. Some stores override this and issue a refund to the credit card. Others have not.

If you are a first time IUP enrollee, trade in is not part of the purchase process via the AS app.

IUP enrollment lasts only as long as you trade in your existing phone after the first year. If you elect to keep the phone you got under IUP. you start over as if you were never part of IUP.

Lastly, check your enrollment well before next year. There are times when the system breaks down and people who are currently paying under IUP, are not considered enrolled. This can take weeks for Apple to fix and this may mean you cannot get a new phone con release day. Check a few months in advance. Don’t assume.

Is 4k still obscure to the "average buyer"? People paying $700 for a phone but not knowing about 4k really are just paying for the Apple logo.

I would say yes. All they care is, if they want to record video, that they are able to record a video when they want. 4k, 1080p, OLED, LCD, mean something to people on these forums and people like them. I think that most people want the phone for what it does and don't really care about the technical specifications.

- Size (5.8' i.e. smaller)
...

These are all the reasons that I had in mean for choosing the iPhone 11 Pro

So you're basically telling everyone that it feels natural for you to pay more for a smaller phone ? Ugh ok

This is not true. You’re putting half the cost because you’re “selling” the phone back to Apple rather than an outsider and avoiding the headache & wastage of time in dealing with randoms. If you don’t upgrade every year then you keep paying for the 2 years and “own” the phone.

But since mostly I’d sell it every year I genuinely don’t have the time or patience to deal with strangers haggling and trying to avoid dodgy buyers for a bit of extra cash. Not at all worth my time.

I put my iPhones on Swappa and clear a minimum of $100 over half the original cost, they usually sell in less than a day, and I've never had any of the problems you list. Better than what Apple offers. On top of that, if you go IUP, you're forced into AppleCare+. Something I've never purchased on any iPhone back to the original. That tacks on another $100 per year. So for my "headache and wastage of time" my iPhone costs me a minimum of $200 less per year. It's worth it to me to waste what little time and effort it takes to save that amount of money.

No it isn’t worth the extra. I only got it because I wanted to downsize from my XR. I do like the more premium built materials though.

Each to their own I guess. The Apple care + is also included in the IUP price so when you return the device you only pay for 1 year. I don’t mind having the peace of mind of being able to replace the device twice within the same year if something bad were to happen. Especially since I don’t like to use cases.

Here is the bottom line...if you think the Pro is worth a minimum of $300 more then by all means, go ahead and get it. If you like the regular 11 and think its a good value then buy that. Everyone has their own set of wants and needs. Either way you are getting an amazing phone. That's really all there is to it.

Exactly, Thank you!

I think some people feel the need to justify or seek 'approval' of their purchase one way or the other. Both are great phones and way ahead of what was out just a few years back. It's easy to get drawn into the super fan sites or YouTube reviews that may bash certain things that don't actually affect general public users.

I think now, more than ever, Apple has created an iPhone for everyone. If you want every feature Apple offers, get a Pro. If you want something less expensive but has 95% of the features, get an 11. If you only need 1 camera but want to use Face ID, get an XR. If you still want a home button get an 8/8+.

Came from the X. Initially bought the 11pro and 11 to test out. Returned the 11pro today. The screen isn’t that big a deal to me because I don’t watch videos on it. I just read or send emails for work. I either have my LG OLED tv or my iPad Pro for consumption. What I did use a ton on my X was the telephoto camera, however I really only used for filming kids playing sports. I bought a moment 58mm lens and clip from B&H and honestly it looks better than the video coming from the 11 pro telephoto. It makes sense because its using the better sensor.

So for the $400 difference (eff off with 64gb) the 11 is a good “gap year” phone because if the rumors about the 2020 iPhones pan out I am 100% upgrading.

No it’s not worth the difference, and it’s actually more because you really need to compare the Max to the 11, because of the screen sizes IMO.
But next year the 12 will be getting its own OLED screen, hopefully, and the same SOC and design and cameras bar one.. so it’ll be even more the iPhone to buy next year. And with 3D Touch now gone the difference today is smaller then ever..

I’m sticking with my 8 non plus because the 11 non pro is too big for me and the 11 pro extra $300 isn’t justifiable to me. If the 11 non pro was same size as 11 pro then I would get that.
