That video is pointless no offense. There’s a huge amount of light reflecting off of the top of the Pro Max which reduces its contrast ratio. The only way to compare the display technology is in a pitch black room otherwise they look almost identical in direct sunlight.

Yeah true that.

Jumped from an 8plus 64gb to an 11 128gb. Wanted to experience a bezeless buttonless iPhone. The 8plus was one of the best iPhones I’ve had. Screen quality, speed, and camera was top notch. Gave it to my girlfriend. Played with a friend’s 11 pro max today and in hand it’s big, but not too bad for use. Did the math. If I wanted to return the 11 and get the pro max 256 it would cost an extra $542. Nah I’m good I’ll keep the 11 lol.

iPhone 11 128gb is probably the best “value” for those upgrading from non oled iPhone who intend to keep it for 3 years in my opinion.

unless u always need the best and greatest every year (like us macrumors people)

the telephono 3rd camera isn’t necessary for 90% of the general population. Most people take point and shoot and don’t need the zooms. The night sight camera is actually more important and it’s the same camera on the non pro model.

oled. Yes oled is nicer but if people are coming from non oled. They will never notice the difference. Even me who has been using the iPhone 11 the last 7 days (my wife took my xs max) and I took the iPhone 11. It took my eyes a couple of days for the downgrade. But I have gotten use to lcd again

of course. I’m waiting for my att retention $799 iPhone pro 11 max 256gb to be delivered on Thursday.

I traded in my XR for a 11 Pro Max, & couldn't be happier.

I made the decision to go with a Pro, vs the NON-Pro, based in part on the DisplayMate review of the 11 Pro Max.

The NON-Pro has a HUGE advantage over the X & XR that few talk about, an extra GB of DRAM, that puts it even slightly higher than the two 11 Pro models.

I almost pulled the trigger on the NON-Pro.

I almost pulled the trigger on the 11 Pro.

In the end, went with the 11 Pro Max because it feels like a better version of the 7+ that I had before the XR.

I always thought my 7++ was a Gem ... always thought my XR was a Dog (NOT enough DRAM).

And now to the real meat of it all ...

Few know this, but two HDR formats will soon become mainstream on the two 11 Pro models, P3 PQ & P3 HLG, & here I mean Display P3 with either the PQ or HLG transfer function.

In a sense, it's Apple version of Rec.2100.

It is Off the Radar of just about everyone, but should NOT be !

In this area, the 11 Pro, & especially the 11 Pro Max, will shine !

It could take 3-4 months from now, however, before such content is pervasive.

You're attempting to assign a dollar amount to some objective improvements, but the owner's perceived value is hard to correlate ...

Let's say, due to the camera improvements, I get an amazing photo of my daughter surfing, that wouldn't have been nearly as good without it - or, because of the longer battery life, I'm able to take a call that results in another $100K revenue for the year. A priceless moment captured? A tangible increase in cashflow for my business? Are either of those "worth" the additional $300?

Maybe. :p

S10 does nothing for me. I wouldn’t want it no matter the cost. I am fully entrenched in the Apple Eco System as most here are.

Word. I can’t do Android. I’ve been in the Apple Orchard forever. .mac mobileme. My first iTunes purchase was 2003.

In my opinion, absolutely not. This is not to discredit the 11 pro in any way shape or form cause it’s a solid phone obviously, but my girlfriend has it and I have the 11. I have done a lot of comparisons, mainly when it comes to the display technology. I find the iPhone 11 to be brighter even though it isn’t on paper. To be fair she finds her 11 pro to be brighter. Also I played the same nature video on both devices at 1080p 60fps, hers had it with hdr as well. Honest to God, there’s barely any difference TO ME. She didn’t notice much of a difference either. Even with the colors they both were vibrant, yes the amoled was a bit more vibrant but you really have to look for it. Then I tried dark mode on both devices and yeah the oled shines there no questions, however the 11 was decent. But that is where you can definitely notice the difference. Lastly, I checked the viewing angles and the Oled was better as well but nobody looks at their phones at an angle like that. Again that isn’t to take away from the 11 pro cause that’s definitely A plus but no big deal. With all that being said, I really do not see a $300 difference between these 2 phones. I couldn’t care less about a telephoto lens and battery life is amazing on the 11 even though it’s better on the 11 pro. As long as you can make it through a day without any issues I think that’s what matters. What are your thoughts? Do you notice a big difference between both displays and if yes, does that warrant the $300 extra in your opinion? Lets discuss it :)
There’s enough of a difference to me and besides 300 isn’t much of a jump in my eyes.... my two cents.

I for one absolutely love dark mode on iOS 13. Just looks absolutely stunning! Love how iMessage and Music looks in particular. Just effing gorgeous. So for me, it’d be hard to move from that high contrast and inky blacks.

Out of your (US-) point of view on resale value, this maybe absolutely correct ; Here in Germany the XR - lineup crashed in new(!) - and resale - prices starting in early April ; Even private resale of Xs and especially Xs Max - Models ( especially 256 and 512 GB - Versions) shows rigid price levels on ebay...etc.

That was the major factor in me picking a 128gb 11 vs a Pro model. I'm happy with my 11 coming from an X.

That's where I am as well. I have a 64 gig X that is almost full. I can trade it in and get an 128 gig 11 for $350. That puts me in great shape it upgrade next year if I decide to go back to OLED. I get storage space and better battery life, processor, etc.

The only thing I think I'll miss is the dark mode on the OLED screen, which looks absolutely gorgeous. I am anticipating the 11 dark mode will look like non-dark mode 'dark' apps on the 11 which is more of a dark gray background than a true black.

The bottom line is a great dark mode isn't worth $400. (since I would have to get a 256 gig 11 Pro)

You can either:

1 - Get an 11 and use it for a week, doing your best to simply enjoy it without evaluating it. Did you enjoy it? If yes then keep it.

2 - Get an 11Pro and use it for a week but don't use the 2x lens unless it's absolutely necessary to get the shot that you want. If you never use it then return the thing and get an 11. If you do need it, then keep it.

Either screen will look fine if not judged side by side. If you use a case then the materials mean nothing.

resale value is hardly a reason to go for any of these phones. High resale is a thing of the past. Take a look at Swappa, Xs Max is selling for only $200 more than Xr’s. now the more you pay, the more you lose.

BIG FACTS

Well. I had the 11 pro Max and then returned it for the 11. Thought I wouldn’t miss the OLED screen or battery life. After a few days with the 11 my wife took it and gave me her XS. After using the XS again I decided I had to go back to to the screen of the pro max.

My wife then decided she didn’t like the screen and as well and took her XS back.

Now I’m not saying the 11 is bad by any means. It is great value for what you get. I found it to be a great device. But I ultimately I was wrong and I do care for the feature of the pro line over the 11 so apparently the added cost doesn’t matter to me after all. Lol.
