On paper, my Nexus's screen looks like it should be better.

Unfortunately, (this goes for the Galaxy SIII as well) it's Pentile. This means that in the areas where pixel density really matters (text), you see pixellation and jaggy edges. It's been universally agreed upon that a Pentile display is completely inferior to an LED/LCD when rendering sharp text.

Also, OLED displays have annoying blotches when displaying dark images. My Nexus and my PS Vita both have this stupid problem, so I'm confident that most OLEDs have it as well.

The screen on my galaxy note blows away the iPhone screen...period

----------

Three months later and the screen on my galaxy note isn't annoying our distracting at all.its just big and beautiful...

Are u kidding? The notes screen doesn't blow away the 4S. In fact, I think the 4S display is nicer. Too much saturation on the note. It looks unnatural and annoying. Not to mention the note is all around a horrible device. Of course that is just my opinion. You're the one who has to use it. Not me.

I would say HTC One X or HTC Evo LTE beat iPhone in screen quality. Although pixel density is slightly lower on HTC devices, but it's very low difference. 312ppi vs 329ppi or something similar.

What makes HTC screen better? Size. It's 4.7" and somehow it still feels very comfortable in your hand or pocket. Plus, it's thinner than iPhone, and weights less. While providing better battery life.

Because of HTC's screen size, it also wins in resolution department. 640x960 on iPhone, and 720x1280 on HTC. The resolution allows you to view 720p content in it's natural resolution. And there's 180 degree viewable angle.

If you decide to compare HTC's devices in a store, please remember to turn the display brightness up a bit. HTC made somewhat aggressive auto brightness rules. While they do work great, for comparison reasons, try with iPhone and Evo/OneX tuned all the way to the brightest setting.

Source of information: I own Evo 4G LTE phone, and work with quite a few iPhones during the course of the day.

Yes I am the one who traded up from my iPhone 4 to my note and wouldn't go back. That tiny screen was just too small to use for much more than making a phone call.

As for now HTC One X screen is the best of all the phones simply because it's color saturation is near perfect and has a really good 312 PPI. The Screen glare is also very less compared to iPhones and Samsung Phones. The Black level of One X is also less than iPhone 4/4S.

While I agree that Note has a great size screen (maybe too big for some), but Pentile screen may not be the preferred choice for a lot of people. Other than that, great device.

Yup. Pentile sucks. No matter how "high def" it is.

I love my One X's display. The SLCD2 is as good as any SAMOLED imo.

My Galaxy Note's PenTile display is also brilliant. You have to look REALLY closely to notice any difference from a normal screen- there's no green hue to my eyes and is nowhere near as bad as the awful PenTile screen on my old qHD Atrix. In fact, if you told me that it wasn't a PenTile screen, I'd believe you.

That's not to say my 4S has a bad screen or anything- it's still lovely. Just a tad bit too small for me.

As far as crispness goes i would say still iphone. No other phone screen is as clean and jaggy free.

As for contrast its behind.

HTC One X - Cheap Chinese knock off, Apple will soon get them banned in the USA.
It is a 2 months old phone selling cheaper than 2 years old iPhone4, what does that tell you.

As opposed to the cheap Chinese made iPhone  With the Fischer Price style toy icons, and the home screen, that looks like the app drawer was left open, same as from 2007, yawn, boring.

The HTC One-X has the nicest looking display of any smartphone today. Now the iPhone-next due this Fall could change that, or the Nexus-5.0 with a 1080p screen.

I personally have not seen anything better yet. However a few HTC's are up there in the competition. If you made it too much 'better' then the human eye cant even distinguish it so it doesnt really matter to be perfectly honest! :apple:

Ever used one? Really?

No way are you or anyone else going to engage in revisionist history.

Pentile displays are bad. Always have been, always will be. AMOLED displays can't fix that either, in addition to having issues with viewing in direct sunlight and organic material breakdown which results in burn in and image quality degradation.

There is a reason Samsung bragged about how awesome super AMOLED plus was supposed to be. It wasn't pentile.

The HTC One X has a great screen. The iPhone 4 screen is a close second. Samsung ranks less than zero.

Funny. A bunch of guys defending the size of their small product.

I guess if I only had 3.5" to play with, I would be hating on everyone that had a bigger size too. :D

I feel like the colors on the iPhone are washed out. Is it just me?

Not possible . It is the best screen out there.
Obviously joking..:D

You got that right. Why is it that with some people, what they use automatically has to be better than what others use?

Wow, you must really hate AMOLED screens. I like them just fine, although I do agree that LCD 2s have the slight advantage. I would rank Sammy's HD AMOLED screens just below the LCD2 and iPhone retina displays.

Do you know the difference between the pentile screen of the S3 vs the ips screen of the iP4s? I ask, because your info above proves otherwise.

Might want to search subpixel density, screen size and ppi, longevitiy of this pentile screen, gorilla glass 2 vs 1, viewing angles, RGB subpixel deterioration vs Samsungs pentile RGBG deterioration. You may be surprised at what you find.

For a phone being nearly twice as big as the iphone, the S3 is thinner, lighter, better battery life (even with the stock battery!), much faster processor, more ram, more memory, better usb and bt porting, but the lets concentrate on just the screen and compare 306ppi on a huge 4.8" display compared to 326ppi on a puny 3.5" display. And lets bring in the pathetically small ppi of the new ipad as well, because apparently, ppi is the defining factor.

I'll make this easy...

The GSIII uses essentially the same display type as the Galaxy Nexus which is a turd...

I'm sorry, but if you laid out the iphone 4s, the HTC one X and the S3

you wouldn't pick anything other than the S3. The screen looks absolutely stunning. I know it is easy to slag off a phone you haven't seen.
