I have seen and owned all. I would pick the one x personally. I prefer more natural colours and the pentile of the samsung galaxy s3 just annoyed me.

I am interested in the Galaxy Note and the SGS3 but my time spent playing with the Note and SGS2/SkyRocket didnt leave me impressed with the screen. I like the size of the screens but right away i noticed the pixels/jagged text. That was off putting, especially since i use my iPhone 4 for everything(work related and personal use). I have no issue reading text, double tap zoom is perfect on my iPhone but not so much on the Note(was weird).

My biggest fear with the pentile/AMOLED displays is longevity. Every test/display unit in the store had horrible screen burn-in. I've also read that users over at the xda forums were having problems with screens turning pink/green hues when looking at anything with a heavy white color. I also heard that the blues on pentile screens tend to be the first to go rather quickly. My contract is nearly up and i can upgrade now(and trust me ive been fighting the itch) but no matter how many times i go in wanting the Note, I walk out empty handed.

I would think it would be great for what i use my current device for except those issues i pointed out. I keep my phones for full contract length and my iPhone 4 has been stellar reliability wise(naked too). I am not sure how the AMOLED would fare for 2 years(its to new imo to know).

I am testing out android right now with the HTC One X and I would say the screen on this One X is better than the iPhones.

How awesome is the iPhone 4 retina display?

It was introduced in June of 2010 and it is still the standard by which all phone displays is measaured.

Not only is this a testament to the iPhone, but also Apple's design prowess. Does anyone care about any android display from 2010? Hell no. Why? Because android is reactionary, short term gratification dreck.

At worst, the iPhone retina display is the number 2 display after the HTC One X, a phone that will be forgotten and abandoned by HTC and the mindshare of the people in 9 months. The GSIII? LOL, that phone will be abandoned by Samsung even faster so they can try and sell you their newest snakeoil, Apple product knockoff.

No one is ever going to consider the HTC One X or the GSIII display as the benchmark by which all others are measured, which sounds to me like the iPhone 4 and 4S still have the chops to hang with whatever android is putting out this week.

Isn't the iPhone screen made by LG? Why don't they use it in any of their android phones I wonder?

Ever used one? Really?

Yes. The galaxy nexus and the galaxy s 1 series has pentile. I like to read on commutes and reading text on both was not bad, but i could easily make out the pixelated font. Honestly though, after reading on a retina display that started to annoy me a lot. The galaxy nexus is better due to high res but the pentile shows.

Especially when i noticed it one night while on a bright white background. And sometimes the screen goes blurry while taking a picture with a bright white background too.

They use it in the optimus LTE? I believe it uses the AH-IPS 720p display.

Pentile screens suck.

Super AMOLED screens have a funky hue and have an organic material that degrades quickly.

Add the two together and you have something pretty disgusting.

Thats your opinion anyways. I didnt see anything so special when you posted the blown up retina display. Nobody is going to use a super magnifying glass to look at their phone. The screens looks great from normal use imo.

The iPhone's screens are pretty nice. Text and images are nice, crisp and clear. Colors are nicely reproduced on my seemingly-neutral tint screen.

However, I have spent about a week with One X and that screen is simply stunning. Text is incredibly sharp, colors are more saturated (but not overly), and pictures simply look stunning.

The whole idea of the "retina" display is that can't really get better, at least not in terms of density (contrast is up for debate). Is it technically possible to create a higher pixel density in a screen that size? Yes, and that will only become easier/cheaper over time. But the idea, at least as I understood it, was that the eye can not discern the difference on a screen that size at a normal working distance for a phone. So by those standards, no you can't really be better. It's either "retina" or it's not.

No such thing as a "retina" display. It's just a made up name for the iPhone display by Apple. Just like 'ultrabook' by Intel. Why doesn't Apple have a concise sentence front and center on its website explaining what it considers to be Retina? Is it 326ppi like on the iphone? 264ppi like the iPad? Experts in displays claim it needs to be around 540ppi to truely be retinal. Simply put, if you can't see pixels of a 5" screen at around 18" or a 3.5" screen at 12", your screen is a "retina" display.

The S3 will be abandoned by Samsung? You mean like the 1st gen iPad by Apple has been for iOs6? How about the iPhone 3g dropped after iOS 4.2.1 update? and now we hear Apple isn't going to make 17" MbP's anymore. Something like that? I wonder why Samsung is still supporting the Note, S2, R, all their tablets, and so on with updates?

As for iOS6, that is the biggest knockoff of all. Apple has gone from innovating and creating cool new concepts, to just taking ideas from Android, or Cydia developers, repackaging the app and claiming it's their idea. Additionally, you are making false statements left and right about both the iPhone and other Android based phones. I pity people like you. The weak minded, that only mimmic what they hear, unable to create an original thought. I hope one day you wake up and realize the propoganda youe been fed for what it is.

Everything you just said is irrelevent.

The Apple RETINA DISPLAY is still the standard by which all are measured for phones, tablets and now laptops.

The fact that people are still comparing Apple's two year old display prove it's a damn good screen.

I like how people try to make their personal preference something more than it is, which is opinion. To say that you like one screen or the other is fine, but it is just one component of the smart phone. So what if the One X has the nicest screen if you don't like the Android UI or if it drops too many calls. Or that the Retina of 4s is great, but the screen that's too small or has data speeds that are too slow. It's all about picking the features you want and living with the perceived flaws. I prefer small but damn good screen, the iOS UI and high quality camera to the awesome screen and less than stellar UI. It's all about what churns your butter. Fan boys will always want to crush the competition without being open to the benefits of the competitions' products. This goes for the :apple: fan boys and the Android fan boys.

Wow... fanboy much?

After reading the thread it's clear that "Retina" (stupid name IMO) is great, but no longer the "king of screens", beaten by HTC. I am sure down the road, more manufacturers will join High DPI club.

While on screen tech I wonder if Apple will stick with LCD on their new iPhone. While it looks fantastic it's a power hungry tech. I think it would be cool if they came out with as good or higher quality display using newer more power efficient tech.

Regardless I think debating over screens involves too much opinion for it to be a worthwhile debate. It's hard to argue its too small or it's over saturated when another opinion can say its too big or it's too washed out.

I have a Razr (as well as a 4S) which is notorious on tech sites for having a bad screen. I will say its not as sharp vs my 4S however by no means do I think it's bad. I prefer it over my 4S just because of its size. Sure, I'd prefer that size AND sharper but as Stalin was rumored saying, quantity has a quality all it's own. :)

Just curious, why was it necessary to capitalize 'Retina Display'? Is it some kind of schoolyard psychology where you cover your ears and yell 'RETINA DISPLAY' to prove Apple's superiority?

The screen on the Sony Xperia S is fantastic. It's 4.3" yet they have made it 720p, with a a pixel density of 342 ppi. It's just a shame the rest of the phone and operating system are awful!

sony ericsson really are awful. they always put in last-gen proccessors in their phones and charge high prices. avoid.

if you're going to android, you have to go to samsung
