If you like it, buy it... if you don't, find something else.

Like others have said, it's a phone!

Also, what else are you going to get? there's millions of android phones, Nokia, Motorola... if you want a phone not many people have then your not going to be happy with it because theres a bigger reason why no-one will own one and thats because it's c*** ;)

Older the iphone becomes, the more second hand ones are around allowing those who couldn't afford one in the first place.

Otherwise just move over here, i've only ever seen 1 other person with one :p

I would have said a resounding no, prior to the Mac app store.

What does that have to do with the iPhone? Everything. As Apple builds a higher wall around the Mac Eco system, more & more people are put off. It will take awhile for the public to wake up, but once they do there will be a shift in momentum.

Apple will return to a niche player.

Conformity ... yuck.

Don't worry OP, for Android will flood the market and iPhone will become a niche just like the Mac (enough of a market share to be viable but not enough to be run-of-the-mill). I suggest that you relax and enjoy your phone. After all, I think many of us need to repeat the mantra 'It's just a phone... It's just a phone.. It's just a phone....'. :)

I am part of the crowd that doesn't care what other people use. I buy the iPhone because I like the looks, I like the features, and because I want it.

I've been mulling on whether or not i should post this question because i dont want to come off sounding like a superficial assclown who thinks that a phone is a status symbol BUT with the verizon iphone EVENTUALLY coming, will the iphone be played out? I realize that MILLIONS of people around the world have it, but still, verizon holds a good chunk of customers. Just think about it, 40+ million (estimate from the 92 mill verizon has) more customers will have the iphone. Will it get to the point where whereever you turn, you see an iphone? (i know its like that already but just imagine 40+ million more). does this thought irk you or do you not really care.

again, don't attack me cause i sound superficial. i know some people feel the same way i do. would like to get the perspective of the people who don't really care so i can see why they feel that way.
Right now, they're still a status symbol. At my work when someone pulls out an iPhone, people go OOOOOOO...

But I expect all that to change with the $49 3GS's. They'll be coming out of the wood work. You and every snot-nosed kid you see will have one.

At that point, if you want status, you'll have to move onto something other than an iPhone.

I see people using iPhones no matter if I'm at the mall, or if I'm out on West Coast for vacation. The phone is very popular, but does that deter me from saying, "Maybe I should look at other, less popular phones?" No it doesn't. Plus, you have to realize that everyone personalizes/organizes their phone differently. So if you see 100 people with an iPhone 4, I highly doubt any of those people will have the exact same apps and/or exact wallpaper that you have on your phone.

Like some others have said, I have an iPhone because it suits my needs best out of all the other phones on the market. I could care less that millions of other people have an iPhone (although it is interesting to see people playing around on their different handsets to see what phone they're using).

No, but I tell you what I think is fricking played out. Coke and toilet paper! Everybody and ther mother drinks some kind of coke, and use toilet paper. It sucks, because I just feel like part of the crowd when I drink a coke or wipe my ass. I like to feel different, like a cut above, you know what I mean? I've been thinking about switching to sprite and using a Bidet (thing that shoots water in your ass)

i really hope you seriously don't think that a legit comparison.

People hate hypocrites and people with a false sense of entitlement
Why would we think your post is any different?

The iPhone isn't rare, the iPhone isn't that valuable ($700 isn't that much for an electronic device), the iPhone has been out for several years

Why do people think that owning an iPhone makes them part of an elite club?

My guess is ; It's the person without much money, or a person that values what others think of them waaay to much, or to put it simply someone that is uncool, that would feel threatened that other people are buying iPhones.

Cool people never say they are cool. Cool people don't care what other people think of them. uncool people try to buy expensive clothes and cars to try and look cool

When you start placing how you feel about yourself on the opinion people have on things you own= sign of low self esteem

MacDawg is cool

why do you continue to not read my posts correctly. this isn't about "being above other" its the idea of conformity. why do you see so many kids in private schools hating the dress code and wanting to wear something different? OH YEAH ,according to you thats attempting to be elite right? like i said, my original post was about everyone having one and blending in with the sea of faces not putting yourself on a pedestal. please people, stop trying to twist my post.

Sorry, but you're superficial, dude.

If you're concerned that other people have and use the same products you do and it makes you upset you have some priorities to straighten out in your life.

I'll like the idea that everyone has n iPhone/iPod touch
Then you can play games whit everyone of you frieds etc.
This could be fun...

This isn't an attack, but rather just an observation that your concerns are fairly superficial, but do reflect the concerns of a lot of people. After all, let's be honest. LOTS of people think of their phones and other gadgets (and non-gadget possessions) as status symbols.

Rather than debating the value of that, at least here in London, iPhones have been ominipresent "wherever you turn" for some time.

Now personally, I am quite fond of my iPhone 4 for a number of reasons, and have little interest in upgrading anytime soon, but yes, as the iPhone becomes common, it does become vulnerable to a "next big thing" phone stealing the "cool factor", and let's face it, that sells a lot of phones. I paid a bomb for my Razr on the day it came out here, and to be honest, a lot of why I paid so much was down to its initial coolness when it hit the marketplace.

hi! :)

did u even bother to read the rest of the posts? but thank u for ur concise response.

oh yeah, a good example of what im trying to get at.

you decided on a car but want to go with dark gray because everyone else has the white or black version.

is that being superficial? are you a wrong for not wanting to drive the same color as everyone else? the cars the same price so i doubt you can label the guy "trying to be elite." Some people even wanted the white iphone (back when it first came out) because it was something different. are they "elite" too?

the people who have the harsh tones, need to back off. if you were ever in the example above than you need to chill out. if not, i guess your perfect and you never had a problem with conforming.

Didn't read the thread, other than the OP.

No, I don't think my iPhone 4 is played out. I still love mine!
Sleek, fluid, fast, and responsive. I can hand it to someone else and they can figure out how to use it without my help.

Everything just works the way I want it to. No need to fiddle with it all the time or tweak any settings.

Best of all, in my home calling area, I can make/receive phone calls without a problem or being dropped! That's what a phone is for, right?

i respect that. i wish i could see it that way. i try but for some reason, deep inside, using a phone that EVERYBODY uses somewhat bothers me. but for an odd reason, i never felt that way when i used the 9700, and alot of people had that phone also.

You just worry about other people to much.
If the phone (or whatever item it is) does not work for you, get something that does. Using or buying something just because other do will just get you frustrated because if that's the reason you do it, you most likely will not be happy.

You buy a car in gray because you like how it looks in that color.

As far as conformity goes-you are buying a mass-produced phone that is available everywhere to everyone. You are conforming already.

it's the same thing, you lack confidence so you are trying to define yourself with an external possession

if you choose a black car because everyone has a black car you are superficial

if you choose a pink car because it's different than every other car then you are superficial

you should choose the color you like best

same thing for the iPhone, it shows you have low self esteem because something that you thought made you different, is being taken away from you.

Totally agree, OP you have low self esteem, just admit it

So you really think that 1/2 of Verizon's customers will get an iPhone? Love to know how you came up with that figure.

Yes, I think it is a superficial question. MacDawg nailed it. What does it matter what other people use? I have an iPhone because it best fit my needs. I assume other people get phones that meet their needs. Sometimes that means they get an iPhone or an Android phone or Blackberry or Windows Mobile or even a dumb or feature phone.

Tell me you all don't like showing off that little apple on the back of your phones though. :p

hi! :)

After reading your posts it sounds more like you just want to be different from everybody else.

For myself,I don't have the same concerns. I buy the phone I like and that I want and don't worry about what other people use. In fact, I like when I run into other iphone users since we can trade app info or be able to use apps like bump to easily trade contact info.

Nope, I was responding to the opening post, which I quoted, which you can see at the top of mine.

If I was responding to the rest of the thread I wouldn't have quoted a specific post.

You buy the color of car that you want. Everyone on the road could be driving a red car, but I want a red car, well dammit I'm buying a red car. I'm not going to force myself to buy a different color just because "everyone else" has the same color.

I wanted a White iPhone because I generally have been purchasing my electronics in white so I was going to continue that trend. My television, Wii, Xbox 360, DS Lite, DSi, PSP, PSP Go, and Dreamcast are all white, so may as well keep that going. By no means do I care what anyone else owns....you buy a product because you want it, not because of what other people are buying. It all goes back to the "If X jumped off a bridge would you too?" argument.

I never had a problem with conforming because I've never felt the need to conform. That's what makes us all unique individuals rather than being part of some kind of hive mind.

Edit: Most importantly, for the love of god it's a freaking PHONE. You make calls on it, you text message with it, you browse the web with it. You're not buying the thing to be noticed or to look cool, you're buying it for what it does.
