Now that I look at it, it looks like a mesh band, and Skagen (and probably a bunch of other watchmakers) have been making those for a while. Shoot, it looks pretty sweet to me. Kind of a retro 70s vibe to it.

The only people i've known wear a Milanese type band is my mum and grandmother.

Therefore I associate it with women.

I understand that it isn't a female only band, but I have grown up thinking it is, and I'm too old to change now.

There you have it, my thoughts exactly.

No, it is a Jonathan Ive and Dieter Rams band.

Indeed Braun design. I really like. Kinda old fashioned and also very modern.

Can we stop this please? Inanimate objects are not "male" or "female". The color doesn't matter, the size doesn't matter, the style doesn't matter. Wear what you like and stop worrying about it.

What about fishnet stockings? Or are you defending your right to wear fishnet stockings?

Milanese Loop for guys?

Any guys buying getting the Milanese Loop? I was thinking about getting it and buying an extra sports band. The Milanese Loop doesn't look feminine does it?

A woman's band? No, more like a middle age band. It's not youthful. And even with that a guy has to have a certain je ne said quoi to sucessfully pull it off or he will look like a douche or tool. It's also a fairly dressy band -- one that works better with a suit or sport coat attire than weekend t-shirt and flip flops. Also major clash with preppy. In fact it's the opposite of preppy.

Sounds like it will go well with the Mickey Mouse watch face. :D

Ouch. Looks like a band designed to pull your arm hairs out one by one. But then that's the complaint my dad and my husband always have had about any metal watch bands. I had a mesh type band on a solar powered digital watch back in the 1980's so for me, this is a dated or retro look because I'm always going to be stuck associating it with that very dated watch. It didn't care for the look or feel of that band even then and bought a leather one for it early on.

I don't think any of Apple's bands are "new". Jony Ive or whomever designed them took inspiration from the 70's and later.

This 80's Casio watch has a band similar to the link bracelet.

The Apple Watch reminds me of this blast from the past. ;)

I actually owned one of these in the late 70's.

You'd have to blame Marc Newson (who Apple acquired on a part-time basis) for the inspiration. The Link Bracelet was taken from Newson's work on the Ikepod Megapod. Quite a bit different from Casio's band style if you ask me.

The Milanese Loop and the Sport band were also lifted from Newson's work (the Ikepod Solaris and Ikepod Hemipode, respectively).

Well, that explains it all. :p

History lesson:

The concept of the wristwatch goes back to the production of the very earliest watches in the 16th century. Elizabeth I of England received a wristwatch from Robert Dudley in 1571, described as an arm watch. From the beginning, wrist watches were almost exclusively worn by women, while men used pocket-watches up until the early 20th century.

Who knew?

It's funny, but I think that the Milanese looks a bit more masculine than feminine, but it's largely gender neutral.
