I got one a week ago for $100 off regular price. I'll get to use it for 3 months before we even know what will change in the next release.

Just wondering if I should wait or if we think the next watch won't be that much of an upgrade.

OP, I upgraded recently from a Series 0 to a Series 2 Nike+ edition and I must say the improvements to speed, display and battery life are quite significant. Also, the ability to swim with it is a very nice bonus.

Related to the battery - I have the brightness all the way up on my S2 and I've been wearing it since 6am this morning. It's now 3:12pm and i still have 90% battery left. On my Series 0 I would only have maybe 30% left.

I definitely think the S2 is worth picking up.

It's already June, I will just wait for series 3. I'm in no rush at this time.

If one can wait, I would think this would be a safe bet until September. I actually don't forsee a new one launching. But at least then you could take advantage of a Series 1/2 at that time.

Do you think that the Garmin Fenix 5s is a totally diferent watch than Apple watch? Apple watch seems to be more like an iPhone on your wrist and Garmin more of a fitness watch.

I disagree. I don't see Apple venturing on adding a camera onto the Apple Watch. I feel they will focus more on additional health sensors into the Apple Watch and/or specific bands that might have battery power related advances. But I don't believe they will add a camera on anytime soon. That's been rumored before, and I truly don't see Apple doing this.

I think for the sake of the iPhone, that's the only camera we are likely going to see with the Apple Watch controlling it. But I don't believe it will have a standalone camera embedded. Perhaps some might appreciate a camera , but I see it as a rather useless feature that will take photos with a low megapixel camera. I don't see the logic behind it.

They're definitely adding a camera. It's been rumored a few times. It's just a matter of whether it's this upcoming refresh gen, or the next gen. My bet would be on the redesign, in 1.5-2 years.

Not looking forward to it btw (the camera).
[doublepost=1497132159][/doublepost]Meanwhile, I'm just waiting on them to make a round watch face, or at least cut down 60% of the bezels on the current design. I'll buy a redesign as soon as it drops. My standards are too high for the existing watch though. Chunky as well.

If a Series 3 launches in September and if it does retain the same casing, I won't be upgrading. I do enjoy the current design and the added Weight of the stainless. But overall, I am ready for a redesign. I currently own both model Apple Watches, however, I would actually appreciate a larger variant and additional watch faces.

I'd be curious to see what they do with screen sizes too. My gut tells me they won't touch the sizes, and would just increase screen size based upon shrinking bezels. However new apple seems to audition every variant under the sun.

I like the premium heft of stainless steel too, just the thickness is to my disliking.

Is AW really that much chunkier than any 42mm Sports watch?

Yes. They're very different. I'm intrigued by the new Fenix 5s, but it's definitely made for very serious athletes. It's also very limited in what smart watch features it has. Biggest limitation being that you cannot act on anything except denying or accepting a call for your phone.

Before smart watches exist, i was a fan if certain sport watches ex. Tag Heuer in particular. We don't hear much abt these watches but they now also make cool smart watches. You gotta see and stop by a authorized store. Since watch os is a sole proprietorship from apple, Tag can only use android. It has many interesting faces and are all good looking, here is a sample

Tag Connected is some of the WORST Android Wear watches one can buy! Lacking basic features. Thick and gimmicky.

This is a review from an Android site: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/05/29/tag-heuer-connected-modular-45-review-seems-like-1500-get/

POS Swiss. And this is the 2nd gen!! The first gen Tag Connected was even worst!

Idk, but I don't wear sport watches, and the AW needs to function as both casual, and sport watch.

I think the Apple Watch physically can resemble a casual or sport watch based on the bands that you switch with. For me, I own sport bands, leather bands, and the stainless steel link bracelets. I also own the stainless steel watch, which is very easy to pair bands with.

I am an indoor cycler - doing 600-800 km a month. Also sometimes I visit the polish mountains and run 3-4 times a month. Mostly I'm looking for a watch that would monitor my heart rate (don't know what it could do more at indoor cycling). I use watches every day - I always have one on my hand. I also work at an office where I use my phone for notifications, calendar, denying calls. Now I am using my phone for it - I have my phone almost all the tine. Will an apple watch work for notifications and denying calls even when my phone will be 10 m downstairs 2 floors down?
Does indoor cycling and some running need a garmin fenix 5?
What are your thoughts on that? Fron which of those two would I benefit more? Maybe I should think about some additional trackers for my iphone used only when I am exercising?

I meant the physical case size. In this case, thickness. As you mentioned, bands are easy to swap, and I do agree it doubles fairly easily with the rubber sport band and stainless band. For me, the aesthetics don't meet my standards (to replace a stylish non-smart watch - casual watch) due to thickness and bezels. Bezels will get fixed eventually, thickness probably won't due to need for sensors to be maintained, and cell eventually being added, requiring more battery and room.

I would think the apple watch would meet your needs fine. The garmin also would. I don't personally cycle, so I can't tell you the in depth differences between what kind of metrics you'd be looking into. I'll let someone else chime in with better reference.

Honestly, the Garmin Fenix 5 is massive overkill for your needs, it sounds like. It's Garmin's too end outdoor watch. If most of your activities are indoors, you won't be using the vast majority of the Fenix's features. Additionally, it costs a good bit more than the Apple Watch.

I came close to pulling the trigger on the Fenix 5s, myself, because of battery life and always on screen. There are a few other things that I also like about it. However, like you, most of what I do is indoor. I just couldn't justify buying the Fenix.

The screen of the fenix is also tempting. Apple watch also looks so nice but just can't pull the trigger. Doesnt feel as a watch, more as a device and a small iphone on my wrist...

Was also thinking about some garmin device? Maybe vivoactive hr or some fitbit alta?

I think you're correct. LTE was the intitial advancement for Series 3. (Aside from a different touch display). Personally, I don't see LTE as a necessity for the watch as of yet. Even other watch manufactures haven't Soley moved to LTE, aside from Samsung.

My thoughts are the next major upgrade, if 18 months serves correctly as a timeline, will likely be in March 2018. Then, Series 3 is looking at a revamped watch with a new design and other health/technological advancements.

The other possibility, is that a new Apple Watch could launch WWDC June 2018, where they could debut WatchOS 5 and a new Apple Watch hardware at that time. Either way, watchOS 4 Easily will suffice with Series 1/Series 2 until then.

As an old Tag-fan with one of the Formula 1 watches in my collection I must admit as well that the Tag Modular45 is a pretty sad excuse for a smart watch. First of all, if you think the Apple Watch is big, this is beyond huge - a massive one-size fat chunk. It's very expensive and yeah missing some of the basic features like heart rate monitor etc.

If nothing else, the (lack of) competition shows how well build and brilliant design even Apple Watch S0 was. Pretty much anyone is trying to copy the band switching thought (Tag tried a further with lugs etc. but not very well thought out)

I don't think Apple is going to release the next gen Apple Watch this fall. the 10th Anniversary iPhone will have the stage to itself. I think it will be a spring release on the next Apple Watch.

The entire keynote will be iPhone? They haven't done that in a while. Although they did just go over watchOS in WWDC.
