I'd been toying around the idea of an Apple Watch for a while, should I wait or buy now. Finally took the plunge a week ago and have to say I'm blown away with the little device. Far more useful than I expected. Delighted with it

Did the same and agree that it is more useful than I thought. Could have waited for Sept, but just don't see a major change coming based on all that I've heard and read.

I agree. Even if any changes arrive in September, they likely won't be anything major. Apple tends to move in minor increments with their hardware line. I think if we don't see a Series 3 Apple Watch by September, my thoughts are Somewhere near The June 2018 WWDC conference will be the next major change with Watch OS5 debuting.

Series1/Series 2 has plenty of capabilities until we see the next version of the Apple Watch.

Yeah I won't be upgrading to the next gen based on the rumours. The series 2 does everything I need. The new watch OS update is like having a new watch anyway

Got a Series 2 as dissertation present recently. Super happy about it, I don't expect anything major (or anything at all) this fall. I upgraded from a Series 0, so the plan would be to have the new one for two more years.

I'm having a hell of a time deciding between Series 1 and Series 2.

Unfortunately I keep seeing sales on S2 but not S1.

Strange. It's usually the Series 1 on sale almost weekly in retailers versus the Series 2, which is rarely on sale.

Last week and this week Best Buy has had the Series 2 on sale for $70 off, though I honestly think the Series 1 is fine for what I'd need it for...and there's not really any sense in paying $300 for a Series 1 when I can get a Series 2 for $30 more.

That's true. I forgot about Best Buy's recent sale prices on Series 2.

Everyone keeps saying that, but they're going to have to update something with this next version, whether it's in fall or spring.

Who knows.. they might not update until fall 2018 if the technology for their next reveal isn't ready for prime time. The only rumor I've heard is that they would start using micro LED screens but that won't be ready until mid next year so it might be that. We all know that products that don't make as much money for apple as the iPhone sometimes go a while before updates (apple TV, mac mini, iMac, mac pro, wireless routers, etc...). I doubt the watch is a big money maker for apple.

In the meantime, they probably make better margins on selling watch bands and can easily release those several times a year to keep the excitement of the apple watch going until they do have an update.

Would say the GPS, screen and water resistant is enough to make it worth the extra penny - just that you can jump in the water, run or bike and get caught in total downpour and track it all with presicion is pretty damn great

Not arguing, just stating what many have reported, no water issues with the Series 0 and 1. A poster here says his Series 2 had screen vapor build up after a swim.

Sure I'm not saying you're lying. But it's a bit of cherry picking to mention the few Series 0 that has survived swimming and the few Series 2 that didn't.

It doesn't mean that a Series 2 watch couldn't necessarily be defective with a faulty seal, which may have contributed to the moisture building up. Series 2 is rated at 50 m water resistant, where as the first generation Apple Watch is only rated at IPX7, which essentially is splash resistance.

Either way, you take the risk when you submerge the first generation Apple Watch underwater, it's not rated for that, where the Series 2 is, which uses more water tight seals and adhesives.
