I've spoken to a technical support guy at Apple today and he confirmed that the T-Mobile contract free version is unlocked to all GSM networks right out of the box, I'll be picking one up when I visit Miami in several weeks for use in the UK as it's so much cheaper than buying the sim free model here!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's relief when they finally get theirs come launch day and it works as expected!

How can u make sure that its unlocked?should u just try to put another sim card if it works,or should u connect it to itunes??

On brother, I think I will wait a week or two before I buy my 128gb iPhone 6 Plus. I waited this long, I can wait a wee bit longer until I know EXACTLY how things work. We are looking at close to a thousand bucks here.

I want a phone unsubsidized/unlocked that I can take at ANY point in time to ANY carrier and establish service. There is a price war brewing among the carriers and DO NOT want to be locked down, neither by carrier nor by phone, and want to be able to switch to "the winner" (for as long as that may be).

A week or two :p try a month or two :D

I already pre order an iPhone 6. Does anybody know if the package comes with an invoice or price tag?

Hi Slybit,

To confirm the process that you suggested:
a) Before turn on first time, Remove T-mobile
b) Plug on Computer/iTunes (USB)
c) Phone will start automatic
d) Do full restore
e) Insert any other sim card (no T-mobile)

Is right?

And this another way can be done?
a) Before turn on first time, Remove T-mobile
b) Insert any other sim card (no T-mobile)
c) Activate with sim card (no t-mobile)
d) plug on computer
d) do full restore

Hi Rodgui!
Have you got the answer? I wanna know which way works too.
:D

Questions about the first activation for users/simcard from carriers international

This question is for all users that will use the iphone outside the United States. Ie non-t-mobile, non-att, non-verizon, etc.

I read in many forums that the recommended for those users who will use the iphone outside the USA, is to make the first activation with sim card from the country of residence (logical that the sim card should be active for international roaming), in my case Brazil.

So, my questions are:
- First, Do I turn on iphone without simcard, sync with itunes, after synchronized I insert my simcard (Brazil) and do step-by-step activation?
or
- Do I turn on my iphone with my simcard (Brazil) inserted, do step by step activation and after that sync with itunes?

(forgive the poor english)

Hey guys!

I carefully read the whole thread and I'm glad to know the contract free TMO iPhone 6 will apparently be unlocked!

But I have a question, my sister will be in the US in October so I will ask her to buy the iPhone, the question is what about the availability of the iPhones in October according to your previous experiences? Are stocks still low in October or it it pretty simple to get an iPhone at this time?

Thanks in advance guys :D

**** NEWBS..

IT is UNLOCKED!!! period point blank. We're all tired of saying it over and over.

the only thing that is locked should be this THREAD!

*drops the mic*

NO ONE knows it FOR SURE until one person tries it. It 99% PROBABLY IS but just because it was LAST YEAR does not mean that it will be this year.

The iPhone 5 was a little difficult to get easily in stores until November

Hay Guys,
I'm going to use the T-mobile unlocked iPhone 6 in Europe. My question is should I activate the phone here in U.S. with my own SIM or I can do it in my country (Bulgaria) ?
Tthanks! :)

Guys, dont' worry, go ahead and order. If it happens to be locked, you have 14-days to return it. Apple is very straight forward with return policy pretty much no questions asked.

Should be able to do either. If I had a choice I would do it here in the US. If anything doesn't work it's a lot easier to return the phone if you're still here. Only a tiny chance of any problem, but I'd rather find out here than in Bulgaria!

Yes, that's what I would do. I would also make sure that you can roam in the US with your phone plan. I'm not 100% sure this is necessary, but I think your SIM needs to actually connect to the cellular network for the activation to happen. If your SIM won't give you a signal by roaming on one of the US carriers, it might not activate properly (but it should activate once you get home).

Also if I were you I would make my first choice a Verizon iPhone 6, because in the US they are required by law to be unlocked, so there is no chance it won't be. If they are out of stock then I would make T-mobile my second choice and ATT my third choice. They should all be unlocked if you buy them device only, but that is just the order that I would try to get them.

Hope this makes sense....good luck!

Actually I would make the T-Mobile version your first choice as it's unlocked to all GSM networks out of the box, doesn't Verizon use CDMA? I had it confirmed by Apple technical support that the T-Mobile version will definitely work with all GSM networks in Europe so that's what I'm picking up when I'm over there.

Wait a minute bruiser. Have you read the 373 previous comments? You're saying that in the US, every phone is required by law to be unlocked!!! So it makes no difference what phone you buy, they will all be unlocked. YOU GOT IT WRONG MAN. READERS BEWARE........THIS IS INCORRECT INFO! For the 375th time: ONLY TMOBILE PURCHASED FROM APPLE DIRECT ONLY AND NOT FROM TMOBILE, WILL BE UNLOCKED. ALL OTHER PHONES WILL BE LOCKED TO THEIR CARRIERS.

Is the T-Mobile iPhone 6 unlocked for pre-order?

I said every VERIZON phone is required to be unlocked. It was the condition for them to get spectrum. This is the only carrier required to sell unlocked phones. Even their "on contract" phones are unlocked.

http://www.verizonwireless.com/aboutus/commitment/safety-security/device-unlocking-policy.html

We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.

The reason they don't lock LTE devices is not out of the goodness of their hearts, but because it was a condition the FCC imposed on them for obtaining their LTE spectrum. I stand by my original post 100%
