Ive always felt the White looked classy and intended to buy one this gen but to be honest I bought black because in pictures it is absolutely stunning. But one thing I've noticed is that Apple seems to be showcasing the black almost exclusively in their ads and website. Is this typical or are they just capitalizing on how well the black one photographs?

Apple Homepage
Apple iPhone Page
Apple iPhong 5 Video Ads

Personally, Im considering a color switch because I feel that over time the White will look better but I also havent seen one in person yet so I'm not sure if the aluminum is the same tone as the Macbooks. Im not sure why, but the color of the aluminum on white doesnt seem to be consistent in photographs Ive seen.

That's because the black one looks significantly better(and different from other iphones) than the white one which looks basic and boring

I thought this too but when you see one in person your opinion may change. The mirrored edge catches the light and makes it stunning. This could be why they are NOT advertising it because you have to see the reflections in the edge yourself. Still photos won't capture it.

Once you see a white iPhone 5 in person, you will agree that it is the better looking phone by a mile, until then enjoy mine

The "basic and boring" part is subjective and I feel both look pretty good, but I agree that the black does stand out among the previous iPhones while the white can easily be mistaken for a 4/4S by a casual onlooker.

The black is a great looking device, but the white iPhone 5 is like never ending gadget porn. You really have to see it in person to appreciate it's aesthetics.

That's what I mean by basic and boring, when you spend your good earned money on something new, you want it to look like you've spent your money on something new and not a taller iPhone 4s

I think both phones look fantastic. The black appeals more to the overall population, so that is typically what is featured in ads. I will say though that this year the white looks amazing. It really shines with the two tone back.

I feel like that is not true at all. You can easily tell the difference between the 4S and 5 in the white.

You're all wrong. The real reason why they're showcasing the black iPhone 5 is it looks different from the 4S from all angles. The white iPhone 5 looks significantly different from its 4S counterpart only on the back.

This is no different from when Apple pushed the white iPhone 4/4S in ads when it was less common than black and wasn't available when the iPhone 4 debuted.

Not significantly different to the average public. This is no different from them being unable to tell the difference between the 2nd generation Prius and 3rd generation Prius, despite a total makeover.

I find the black one much more attractive. Especially when the screen is off, it's just a giant slate of ... shiny black.

I bought the white iphone 5, had a black iphone 4 and let me tell you the white is gorgeous! you def have to see it for yourself!!! plus it matches my white macbook and ipad 3 ;)))

I think it might just boil down to Apple probably selling more black phones than white ones. Sort of like how all the promotional stuff for the Mass Effect games show a male character when you have the option to play a male or female character.

I've had a white iPad 2 and currently a white iPad 3. I've had a white iPhone 4 and 4S. While the white certainly looks great, I went black for a change of pace after 2 years of white devices. The all black looks slick as hell and I love how the screen sort of vanishes when turned off. I think I'd love to have an iPad mini just like this.

Attractive-Gorgouse-Stylish...That is what the White iphone 5 looks to me. Glad I bought one. Black seems, so yesterday ;) Not to mention, it shows the nicks/scuffs far more over the white iPhone

I got black mainly because I love how it looks, the sensors aren't visible etc like the white version. Also the borders blend in, instead of showing a "frame."

This is actually the opposite because apple has always gone with white everything, macs, ipods, ipads but this black iphone is actually a very nice change, it has a nice blueish matte tone to it. Gives it a batman gadget look like the finish on a batmobile, so sleek, cool and sexy.

Whats the point of this thread?

So more people can buy white while we white-users can get our unique output on the human world? No thanks.

I agree. I went with the white and am happy with it. I saw the black one and it looks great, too, but still decided to get the white one at the store. It looks really nice under the right lighting.

Apple advertised the heck out of the white model when the white 4 and the 4S came out since it was new and different looking after 3+ years of black iPhones. With this one, they seem to be emphasizing the black one a little more, but I do see the white one a lot on their website.

The casual onlooker will see the raw aluminum back of the white iPhone and that will catch their eye.

I think it is actually quite the opposite. Black phones have been around so long that they're boring to me.
