In my Opinion, iOS lacks many crucial features for more than basic users, i.e. advanced ones.
Like Business users: a not at all tech savvy friend of mine ran his business with an iPhone, until he discovered what could be done with an Android phone.
He switch in a heartbeat, knowing that he could now send multiple files, handle files from his clients, put shortcuts on his homescreen ( you cannot do that and Siri's just one of the worst possible things Apple has released so far. I cannot bring to work properly like calling someone or sending an mail )
And for an advanced user like me, everything is just way more convenient. For example, I use Pocket to sync links across my devices ( I have to use Linux and Mac, Android and iDevices ) and Android enables me to just use their built-in share function to send every link to Pocket.
And that works with all apps - they can easily share stuff ( files, links, information ). I cannot express how eye-opening that was when I used an Android phone for the first time in years.
- Almost everything works and is fast - like my animations which I could speed up myself to my needs. ( my iPhone crashed regularly, my iPad does, too - you know that funny blue screen? ;-) )
- Or - like mentioned - the notification LED. That's one handy feature ! Every app has its own color so I can easily distinguish what app sent me a notification.
- The notification center is miles ahead - I can collapse notifications like I want, set the quick toggles at a whim etc.
- Storage options - 64GB for roughly $40
- I can choose the stock apps
- Copy and paste done better
etc.
The list goes on.
I can see that most people will probably never need such features, but for advanced and business users, many of these may be necessary to operate effectively ( sadly, I saw that most adapted to the inefficient ways of iOS because there not willing to learn and thus Apple can continue to be slow ).
iOS 8 takes a step in the right direction with actionable notifications and better file sharing, but they are still lacking behind. Nonetheless is an iPhone a very good phone and I'll continue to use them ( they integrate well ) because of accessories, etc. But I hope that there's a next big step in near future.
