I'm saying if your iPhone came with or you downloaded 4.1 you can't unlock because you have the updated baseband. The newest one has not been unlocked yet.
Bear with me and my limited knowledge on the matter, but I assume that means she still has to buy a SIM card for her phone?
Well you are going to need some type of sim card for it to work from whichever carrier you want.
If the phone already has 4.1 on it, there's unfortunately nothing to suggest but patience. There is no way currently to unlock it.
I know? I told him this numerous times. He has never stated what firmware or baseband he is on.
Yeah unfortunately at this time you are SOL and will have to wait for the dev team to make a new unlock.

I don't know about 3GS as the baseband is a few generations old and very stable (aka no exploits), but the iPhone 4 baseband is very new, uses a new chipset and OS, and should have more bugs and stuff. I think MuscleNerd tweeted a while ago saying there was 3 bugs he could exploit, and he used one for the ultrasn0w for iPhone 4. Plus, he said there could possibly be downgrades, so you may not have to wait that long.
