The reasonable thing to do, and what most people did up until the internet arrived, would be to use your current <insert any object name> until it’s either dead or obsolete.

But since the late 90s, consumer reason rarely shows its face, and especially when it comes to buying Apple products.

I’ve owned every single iPhone except the 5C, the SE and the + sizes. 10 years, 10 phones.

When I was a kid, we had the same puke green Bell Company rotary dial phone for 10 years. 10 years, 1 phone.

The normalization of rampant consumerism is...I’ll finish that thought on my 11th iPhone tomorrow.

I generally value things that are well built and run them to the ground before replacing them.

Having said that Tech is different. They progress so quickly, the benefit is in the new. And rate of progress is also accelerating.

The year Apple doesn’t release a new iPhone is the year California tumbles into the sea. Or some Chump takes us into armageddon. Or the air becomes too hot to fly planes. Or we run out of oil.

Until something globally awful happens, it will be business as usual for Apple.

I was going to say the same thing. Without a hint of hyperbole or sarcasm, if Apple doesn’t release a new and better iPhone next year it means that something literally world changing has happened.

I swore that I would exercise self-control this year and not fall prey to the hype but now that the X is just around the corner I'm starting to have second thoughts. $1000 is a lot of money for a phone, especially when there's nothing wrong with my current one. Is anyone else in a similar situation? Also, are we pretty much limited to either full retail price or monthly installments via an annual upgrade plan now that subsidized pricing is essentially non-existent?

This really is subjective and up to each individual as to what determines if it's 'worth it'.

For me? Absolutely. I've loved my matte black 7 Plus, but I'm super excited to be picking up my Silver X tomorrow morning. Can't wait!

Worth is subjective. Furthermore, the long you wait, the lower the iPhone X upgrade will be worth as you approach the replacement of the replacement of the iPhone X.

Anyways I am quite excited to replace my iPhone 7.

There will always be a new iPhone every year. It’s their money maker.

Apple has always released a new phone every year. Foolish to think a. company that sells tech doesn’t come out new tech every year. That’s their lifeline!

Haha. Same exact boat. Same 10 iPhones. But dozens of replacements.

Entirely this. Worth is a That someone needs to decide if they would appreciate the upgraded features to the iPhone X over the current iPhone they are using now. But the difficult part is the separating hype away from the logic of do they actually need a $1000 iPhone?

Thanks everyone! I think I will wait a while or at least until I actually get to see the device in person.

How important is the screen to you? It seriously is amazing. To steal from another user, it looks like stickers on the screen with how much everything pops.

Wondering this too. Have a 7. Had no intention of upgrading. Played with a X for 5 minutes at the Apple Store, which was just long enough to give me upgrade fever.

I contacted AT&T to ask about my upgrade options. Bottom line - if I trade in my 7, I can get a X for only $6 more a month (I’m still getting trade in credits from my 6 last year).

I do need to upgrade my original apple watch more than I do my phone...but maybe I do both?

Is it worth $6 more a month?

Only you can decide that.

I am staying with my 7 Plus but I got a V30 too. I just didn't get the upgrade fever when playing with the X at all.

worth the upgrade if you do not mind the screen size, I just compared my X to my buddies 7+ and for example we both opened up instagram and same picture and his was bigger and mines was just a bit shorter and more narrow... o_O

Definitely worth it. I wish I kept the 6 and didn’t do the 6s and the 7, but not this one. This is the best iPhone since the iPhone 5 for me.

Yes, I wasn't impressed at first in the store but after receiving mine and using it in every day life, it's amazing. Feels great and next gen and so quick , love not having home button too. Face ID always works too and that OLED screen pops.

I’ve been comparing my iPhone 7 and my iPhone X side by side since Saturday.

I think X is an exciting, significant, and beautiful upgrade from my 7, but now that I’m doing the math, I wish I’d avoided holding an X in my hand. Prior to that, I was fine with my 7 and almost cancelled my reservation at Apple Saturday morning, thinking it was crazy to upgrade so soon. Oh well.

Coming from a 6+, the X I’m typing on is a huge upgrade. I’m blown away by the performance of this thing and the screen is beautiful. Also loving the size of the X vs using a plus size for the last 3 years. Big screen in the same form as a non plus is awesome! I don’t regret it at all but the 7 is a waaaaayyyyyyy better phone than the 6+. Tougher decision I’d say. If you can swing it maybe try it for 14 days. You could always return it. Good luck!!

Why is everyone assuming a new phone will come out next year? I wouldn't assume that. The 7 to the X is a large upgrade.
Closing in on a market cap of $1 trillion...you’re not going to turn off the spigot. You’re going to milk that cash machine for as long as you can. Which is why the modest incremental upgrades with the 6S, 7 & the 8...until the X. And now it’ll start all over again

I do wonder how they'll move forward with the pricing though.

Many were unsure how the X would do at a price point of $1,000. It's sold like hot cakes and will be in high demand for the foreseeable future. That proves it was priced accordingly. They'll keep testing the pricing until the day people realize, they don't need a $1,000 + phone. Especially one that loses enormous value in less than a year when the next version is introduced.

But really they need to focus on their other income streams. Releasing a new product every year when you are doing minuscule upgrades to the hardware is pointless. They need to work on their software execution.
