Possible with the added bulk though and BP reading isn't exactly the most desired feature around here. I don't see them releasing a separate "Apple Watch Health" model so I'm afraid you're alone in this.

"Around here" means what? Under a certain age? A person with a lot money? Only folks that own Apple products and wouldn't be caught dead with a Windows computer? Seriously, BP is probably the most important health statistic around.

They won't put out a new apple watch and a phone at the same time. People can't afford both.

Probably true.

However, the same can be said for fence sitters waiting since last year, for the 'new' watch to launch so that they can enjoy the latest and greatest.

Cheers !

Lol, that is the sole reason anybody who doesn't have a watch and wants one hasn't bought it yet. They want to know if somebody in here can look into a crystal ball and tell them whether they should buy now or wait.

That's why I suspect they'll debut AW2 at the same time as the new iPhone, but release the iPhone first then the AW2 several weeks later. I.e., the AW2 will have a later release date (closer to Xmas time) than the new iPhone. Pure speculation.

Although Apple doesn't like to wait too long between debuting and streeting, but it will have been two full years since they first debuted the AW so it may not matter. Who knows?

Around here meaning nobody on MR (except you) has expressed an interest in BP reading capability.

If Apple is already realizing consumers aren't upgrading their Macs, iPads and now iPhones every release cycle, then I don't see them holding back the AW2 release due to being afraid it will reduce sales of other devices.

The AW was released when it was because it was like the first iPhone - a guinea pig, and they didn't predict blockbuster sales, thus the holiday timing wasn't important.

I think another reason for the springtime release was because, for most of Apple's market, it's the beginning of warm weather, and people would be wearing their new Watches with short sleeves.

Remember when winter hit last year and owners started complaining about trying to use their AW from under their coat sleeves? Imagine trying to sell the AW to people who wouldn't be able to see it most of the day.

The introduction of a new version this fall wouldn't be as risky since it's already an established device.

I'd agree, but it's not something you'd want to measure continuously because of the procedure you have to go through every time:
  • sit up straight,
  • arm extended flat on a table,
  • feet square on the ground,
  • breathe evenly,
  • don't talk to anyone,
  • don't think about anything "exciting" that would raise your bp.
  • don't think of anything, at all.
  • don't move
  • and then...
  • hold-that-pose for 15 secs.
And you're not done yet, you have to repeat the entire procedure two more times, with about a minute between each reading.

I measure my bp regularly, and having to do it weekly is a pain. I doubt very much that I'd want to do it more than once a day - so building miniaturized hardware into a device continuously on my wrist seems like overkill.

A separate iPhone-compatible bp cuff is about $100, accurate, reliable and easy.

[EDIT: Wow, I just realized that all of the above steps would fit in perfectly with WatchOS 3's "Breathe" app. So is that what "Breathe" is really for? To get us all used to sitting calmly for a few minutes while our BP is measured???]

I really hope they don't push out a new watch this year. This is an expensive product which some people have paid 1000s of dollars for and should not be devalued so quickly by releasing a new model every year. If they want to be taken seriously in the watch market, they should slow it down to every two years and concentrate on making the software a better experience - which they seem to be doing with WatchOS 3.

Agreed.

I have Instant BP app on my iPhone already and it's good enough for measuring blood pressure.

I imagine that there is not enough value or capability to extend this to the AW.

The Breathe capability would be a welcomed preparation to taking a BP measurement on the iPhone.

Truthfully.... it won't break my heart if they wait a while longer.... especially now with what WatchOS3 is going to bring. I just bought a second watch a couple months ago... so for me... waiting a few more months til spring 17 even makes my purchase feel a tiny bit less frivolous! (cuz I know darned well... regardless of when Watch2 comes out.... i'll be buying one!)
