I agree with other people in this thread - the price really needs to come down. I'd love to buy a couple of them so I can stay in touch with a distant relative but £200 is just too much to justify. Maybe they could do a reduction on the price for buying them in pairs or something.

I'm almost positive that there was a bigger difference between A and B, I believe that B had slightly better image quality and didn't get as hot. With revision C coming out, they are going to update it to support the new video codec used in iChat. Looks like I'll be buying my second iSight.

Is it true that rev B didn't get as hot? I noticed that my rev A even got pretty warm when it was in "off" mode (plugged in but not being used). With heat == power consumption, I am hesitant to keep it plugged in unless I actually want to use it.

A lower price would be great and some sort of bundle with tiger would be even better. Especially since the new ichat has the multi-way conferencing feature, they've got to get more people using it. I know no PC-using friends that have web cams, for example.

Sure. No Problem. Apple will drop the price, but not include the necessary Firewire. 🙄
One, Firewire is not "necessary" at all. But they will keep firewire in the iSight, i promise you.

From what I've read, the biggest problem with iSights is that there's no one else to iChat AV with.

Females on the iChat meeting websites get bombarded with lecherous males.

There definitely needs to be some iSight porn industry to kickstart this.

I use it for audio on Skype.

Do you know of another way to connect an iSight?
Your sentence said "Apple will drop the price, but not include the necessary Firewire."

I was just informing you that firewire wasn't that necessary... usb gets along fine. (Firewire still is better) But i promise that Apple won't take firewire off of the iSight.

I have no idea what revision my iSight is. Mine's lukewarm right now, and it hasn't been used in a while.

Personally, I'm expecting a pretty minor update to the iSight, similar to what was changed from Rev. A to Rev. B. A few hardware tweaks here, a firmware update there, and Rev. C is born! (Sorry, I don't think a price drop is all that likely.)

Funny, the Rev A model is still selling at some retailers, the Rev B (current?) model's price went up this weekend at Amazon.com (Why I don't know.) I hope that there is an improvement of the resolution, and I would hope that the price drops or doesn’t increase.

Also the iSight case that was once sold, has long since been discontinued. I have been doing my research, I want an iSight so that I can do some small short stop animation films. I can justify an iSight if my significant other gets into grad-school this year.

i dont use my isight that much...but i still think rev a are still good, but any improvements are good

Like others my iSight is still sitting in a box. My wife purchased one thinking that she needed one. Don't really have anyone to visit with. My thinking is that when I get a G5 it would probably work better anyway.

Hmmm... kyle... I think he mean't it as a joke... as cheaper iPods have no firewire.

I found it funny.

Better Quality Video

What about just increasing the quality of the picture? If they could get the resolution up to full Broadcast Quality (NTSC and PAL, I'm not asking for HD) then using an iSight with iMovie would be much cooler. iSights would actually have a practical use beyound iChating then.

steve jobs said this was the year of HD video......
iSight HD anyone?
Yes funny, but wow- what a great idea. Hey I would foot the bill for a 3ccd iSight with HD or near HD resolution. The idea is brilliant, small, maneuverable, interchangeable lenses (hopefully), and no bulky body to worry about. Just stream the data and record directly to the HD, just like importing footage from a miniDV camera. No viewfinder, just a window on the laptop. Brilliant!!! 1/3 to 1/10th the cost, and yet professional quality footage. Coupled with Asteroid for quality audio input, it would be extremely cost effective!. Now I just need a lackey to carry the laptop while I artor. Quite now, I am creating art!

No worries.

Sure is! you got all the respect in the world...

Well I would like to see a price drop downunder for one.

Maybe H264 support requires some tweaks...At some point I expect the iSight to go HD in the year of HD but people seem to think that a shift from B to C wont do anything substantial, so maybe later this year after Tiger appears...

lol

I'm glad you added a LOL! With the current HD camcorders on the market going for $3,000 upwards and a lens that would dwarf an iBook, I can't see an HD iSight coming out for quite a while!

..as cheaper iPods have no FireWire cable....they have no FireWire CABLE. They still have FireWire. For the love of Jobs...THEY STILL HAVE FIREWIRE SUPPORT!

Now that's funny.
