I would strongly consider one if we got a price drop. Also if they could make it a little smaller it would be nice. PZT is a great idea, but it seems like a little much to ask for.

Maybe they're getting changed to a C model in preparation for...
MSN 5 for Mac with webcam (iSight) support being released next week?
That (or a price drop, even though that wouldn't convince me because I still have no AIM friends) would be my dream revision.
I imagine it's something stupid like a new adjustable mount so that Mac Mini owners with PC monitors can still mount an iSight.

maybe it will somehow be more suitable to h.264, or be an HD cam, or better yet, be cheaper for us all!

Not many changes...

Well...there is no price drop. The Apple store is already selling the "C" model at the same price...you just have to wait two weeks. Also...this probably isn't much of a rev....because there is no change to any of the pictures...or descriptions. It would be false advertising to sell something totally different.

If you order now....you get a "C"...at the same price...that looks the same...and does the same stuff. My guess is...that you are just going to get maybe a couple of new "stands"...maybe for the iMac...and some small internal changes.

Seems like I made the right call. Thanks for the report, ibryan.

I have no idea what revision my iSight is. Mine's lukewarm right now, and it hasn't been used in a while.

Personally, I'm expecting a pretty minor update to the iSight, similar to what was changed from Rev. A to Rev. B. A few hardware tweaks here, a firmware update there, and Rev. C is born! (Sorry, I don't think a price drop is all that likely.)
Some form of Windows compatibility would be my new reature request.

Is it true that rev B didn't get as hot? I noticed that my rev A even got pretty warm when it was in "off" mode (plugged in but not being used). With heat == power consumption, I am hesitant to keep it plugged in unless I actually want to use it.

A lower price would be great and some sort of bundle with tiger would be even better. Especially since the new ichat has the multi-way conferencing feature, they've got to get more people using it. I know no PC-using friends that have web cams, for example.

indeed it is true, that was one of the major things with rev B. I can remember being upset that i had just bought one and my iSight would almost burn me when I'd touch it. It's ver unnvering that it gets warm when I'm not using it. Is Apple watching me?

remember guys.....

steve jobs said this was the year of HD video......

iSight HD anyone?

lol

Right. You hit the nail on that one. iSight HD is gonna happen in 2005.

I agree with the guy that said NOONE uses video chat yet. Its soooo hard to convince my friends to download AIM just to chat with me when they all use MSN and such. As soon as the PC user needs to start opening ports and messing with their firewall and all that crap the experience goes south quickly and of course they blame the fact that I use a Mac. iChat AV would be a killer pc application too. My brother constantly makes fun of the fact that my Mac doesnt support voice on yahoo messenger. I cant wait for the day when true interoperability is here. The iSight needs to be less expensive and it needs to work on the PC.

When someone told me that a year ago (referring to the iChat on PC) I was skeptical. I really didn't see the need for one of your nice iApps be ported.. But if you think about it, it really needs to be. I hate AIM for windows, and i have something to win over my PC friends. Plus better connectivity for us (mac-heads).

And answering thet above comments about HD iSights -
They will never come. At least this year..... That would be so much money it is unbelivable. I will eat every sock in the drawer if that happens. HD camcorders *just* came out at a decent prosumer price.... about 3 grand. Unless everyone is joking again, which i am bad at telling when it is a joke or seriousness. Anyways... it won't happen.

I guess wishing for HD iSights is a little too optimistic. But it would make a lot of sense.
Steve Jobs won't call 2005 the year of HD if nothing significant happens in with HD and Apple.

I would think if an iSight HD were to be released, it would be released as a seperate model. Having an iSight and an iSight HD to choose from would be ideal. H.264 would be able to carry the signal. The only obstacles I see are price and size. Imagine having an iSight HD the size of a grapefruit hanging off the back of your PowerBook.. LOL!

One thing that was mentioned here is distributing iChat AV for Windows machines. That is the perfect strategy. It's a trojan horse to get Windows people looking at the OS X platform.
Design an iChat AV for Windows with iSight support but don't allow multiple users video conference on the Windows version.

Then again, now that I think of it. What reason would Windows users have for downloading and using iChat AV when they arleady have MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, etc.. The PC IM market is already saturated.

On that note: When is the much talked about IM Compatability Protocol supposed to kick in?

they should sell them in 2 and 1 packages

Now THAT is a good idea. You should tell Apple on their feedback page.

That is so smart, I am shocked a company as smart as Apple hasn't figured that out already.

Price, size, and the fact that your monitor is almost certainlly not HD. I can't believe people actually picked up a joke about HD webcams and are talking about it like it's in the works. There's not even a sub-$3,000 HD camcorder yet! Think before you post, dude.

Question for the HD gurus here:

Would the lens need to changed/be dramatically bigger? Or can they upgrade using slight lens modifications and software enhancements?

Sorry if i'm missing something here... but why on earth would you EVER need a HD webcam??? A someone else said HD prosumer cameras are retailing around three grand... I'm a film student, and we're just starting to use HD cameras... I can tell you right now having HD for a webcam would be so over the top it's ridiculous. I don't think we'll need anything of that good quality for at least 10-15 years.

It's silly!!

If they do release a PC version they should consider doing a really little £20-£30 one... I'd buy one for that price, but not for the current one... And more importantly I think I could encourage my friends to get on iChat AV at that price!

Honestly, I just want an iSight that is capable of recording at broadcast quality resolution (720x480, as opposed to iSight's current limitation of 640x480). As one poster already stated, otherwise the iSight's usefulness is sorely limited (I can video-conference over iChat AV, and I can scan things into Delicious Monster... woo hoo!), even though iMovie HD now supports capturing video via an iSight. Hey, neat idea to implement into iMovie, but I for one like to be able to use iSight footage interchangeably among better quality, camcorder-originated recordings, and be able to show my movies on DVD or TV without cringing in horror.

$150 is well on your way to buying yourself a decent, 1 CCD camcorder (read: cruddy, but better than a webcam, and actually has broadcast quality resolution). So while I would love an iSight, I really can't quite justify the price for the iSight's current specs and offerings.

I am awfully sure you don't know what "broadcast quality" is.... A 1CCD camera is *not* broadcast quality. If you want true broadcast quality.. it is upwards of 10 grand. I am AWFULLY sure that this won't happen in a iSight. The quality is over-and beyond what most could even run (bandwidth wise). Just imagine the bandwidth you would have to have (not to mention the processing power) to run that thing. Not feasible.

Thanks. It was a lame attempt at humor, but at least someone got it. 😀

It would be funnier if you told everyone that it wouldn't have an IEEE 1394a bus but would include an IEEE 1394b bus.

That is classic humor, right there.

😛

Oh yeah. That'll have 'em rollin in the aisles. 😛

That's like laughing at someone cause they don't have an iPod yet. Geesh! How uncouth!
