Doesn't matter how or why, the statement was made that you couldn't do it on a Mac. And with the right software and a good DVD/BD drive, you certainly can. Do I use it often? No, but it's there when I need it. The last time I used it was to download a concert from a BD disk to my Mac for the Music app. I also downloaded the concert to a Micro SD card that resides in a Digital Media Player in my home theater.

Whatever - The capability is there, if I need it

This is really a non-issue, there are always 3rd-parties freewares that will do the job, my burner is attached to a Windows machine, in the Windows World seems to have more freewares available.

Toast is an outstanding software (just read what it can do at the website), but I believe that it doesn't work with Sequoia and Tahoe. If it would I would certainly buy it.
I have it working on Sequoia. Not sure about Tahoe. It looks like "official" support might end with Sonoma though, and who knows if they're ever going to release an updated version that's Apple silicon native.

Damn, looks like I got lucky to get it working on Sequoia. But then again, "working" for the very limited features I use--no idea if all the features work as expected. I guess Tahoe and Golden Gate will be a no-go for anyone wanting to use Toast from now on.

That's the least crazy thing about macOS 26.
OMG! They took the Burn Button away! It’s the worst operating system ever!

In seriousness, I think it’s important to understand that many people develop business computing systems which they keep for a decade or more.

I am helping a local attorney set up the systems for her law practice, with billing, contracts, etc., and we expect it to last until she retires. Because once a system works, there’s often no need to change it. “Back up the weekly records to a CD” is one such system. Of course, it’s not what we will put into a new system, but there are plenty of businesses which still run that way.

flowrider, may I ask what model of Asus and software you use to read BD?

I've had it for quite some time with no issues 👍

I'm holding off on BD software until they release something that will work with Golden Gate.

I’ve been looking into getting an external CD/DVD/BD drive for some while because I have some older CDs that I didn’t have the chance to rip after my last MacBook Pro died in the 2010s. I’ll give your suggestion a look. Thank you!
