I used this (with the USB Super Drive) to burn a CD last week for a friend who needs to give CT scan results to the hospital that specifically requested a CD. Not digital, not USB, not DVD; but a CD.

Yes, it is common for hospitals, dental clinics, and so on to provide patients with medical reports in CD form. This is also a lot cheaper than providing the data in SD cards and thumb drives.
