Toe, I did it. but I did it for isinc 2.0. I copy it from my ibook to my G5.
then I copy the plist files and .tiff to the applications, ............

I re-started isinc and there it was.
finally. I will keep it this way until i find out a way with 2.1
Well, now aren't I stupid? (Rhetorical question)

I had applied the exact same hack to 2.1 as I had to 2.0, but the metaclasses document had changed its format. I don't know why it is working on my home computer. I just tried setting this up on my work computer and had the same problem. Below is the file that should work with iSync 2.1. It is working for me.

Be sure to get the permissions right (owner is system, group is admin... after closing the get info window, open it again to make sure it took).

If you don't want to download, the code to insert in MetaClasses.plist, starting after the dict on the 4th line (ie, this gets inserted on line 5) is:
Code:
	<key>com.motorola.A630</key>
	<dict>
		<key>Identification</key>
		<dict>
			<key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key>
			<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2000"+A630</string>
			<key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key>
			<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2000"+A630</string>
		</dict>
		<key>InheritsFrom</key>
		<array>
			<string>com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>
		</array>
		<key>Services</key>
		<array>
			<dict>
				<key>ServiceName</key>
				<string>com.apple.model</string>
				<key>ServiceProperties</key>
				<dict>
					<key>ModelName</key>
					<string>A630</string>
					<key>PhoneIcon</key>
					<string>MOTA630.tiff</string>
				</dict>
			</dict>
		</array>
	</dict>

I will put this new file into the step-by-step.

i seem to have a little problem. i wanted to have all of my contacts in my phone and my address book sync nicely with out any duplicates. so i using isync i synced my phone with my address book thin when through my address book and deleted / edited everything that i needed to. then i cleared my a630 so that when i synced the two again everything that was in my address book would go onto my phone with out any duplicates. however after clearing my phone it seems that when i sync the two contacts will only go from my phone to my computer not the other way. dose anyone have any ideas? i am hope it is just a setting somewhere that i have not found.

Are you storing info in your phone or in your SIM card? I believe iSync will only talk to the phone. I'm not sure if that's the issue, but it could be...

A630 MetaClasses.plist rights

For anyone who has had trouble with this... the only thing I can guess is that the owner and permissions might be set wrong if you copy over my version of Metaclasses.plist. Get Info on that file and look under "Ownership & Permissions." Owner should be "system" and Group should be "admin," both with Read & Write.

I tried changing permissions under the "Get info", but it kept changing back to the previous setting, despite putting in my administrative password. Do I have to do this as root?

I'm pretty sure BatChmod will do the trick.

Thanks, Toe.

I got the permissions changed by putting in my tiger DVD and "Fixing Permissions", but iSync still comes up with the "iSync does not support this device" message. Any thoughts?

Are you using the right version of the hack (2.0 or 2.1)? iSync's Metaclasses.plist changed significantly between 2.0 and 2.1....

close but still no

hey i downloaded the metaclasses.plist and isync starts to sync up with it but then at the end it says:

Thursday, September 15, 2005 1:43 PM
The connection was lost while sending some changes to the device.
Device "Brandon Lynch's Phone" synchronization failed.

and when i tried to mess with the permissions even with batch majigger there it still went back to what it was before.

double you tee eff man? can anyone help? im so close!

I'm having the same problem. I just got my powerbook and grabbed your 2.1 file and checked with no luck. I get the same "iSync can not connect to this device" issue.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is it, but from what I can tell, the memory on the a630 is very limited. Have you taken any photos with your phone? If so, try removing many of them and see if it works then.

Wish I could be of more help, but... hey, I dunno squat about the architecture of either iSync or Motorola phones... all my hack does is use the v600 section of the metaclasses file and replace the text "v600" with the text "a630." From what I understand, the a630 uses the same motherboard, etc. as the v600.

thanks dude. im gonna mess with it some more. ill give that a shot and let you know what happens

Welll after giving up in vain having spent 4 days trying to get this working and then trying to sync again a week later after numerous reboots it seems to have worked perfectly. I did an embarrasing little jog of victory around Starbucks and then moved all my photos off.

Kudos and thanks again Toe.

To Everyone Getting the "iSync Cannot Connect to This Device" Error

To Everyone Getting the "iSync Cannot Connect to This Device" Error:
This may sound really simple, but once you start iSync, you have to turn your phone's bluetooth on "Discoverable", otherwose you will get that error. Even if you've allready set up the device in your bluetooth setup, it has to be on discoverable for iSync to see it.

I finally got my a630 to sync up with the new 2.1.1 just using the 2.1 code provided here. Thanks everyone for all the help and tips.

Update for 10.4.3

It seems that 10.4.3 introduces iSync 2.1.1.

I forgot all about my hack when I ran the update, and it appears the update overwrote my hack. So I put it back, relaunched iSync, and was again able to sync with no difficulty.

So... enclosed is the Metaclasses.plist for 2.1.1. I will also add this to the step-by-step.

Enjoy.

Hey all,

I have my a630 working perfectly with iSync and all, but I have a bone to pick.

From what Ive read, the Address Book.app can let you send dial commands to your bluetooth cellphone. Like, I click a contact, push this little bluetooth logo, and my cell with start dialing the number.

Also, Ive read that if i get a call on my bluetooth cell phone (yes ive paired my computer with the phone) then I will get a notificaiton of whos calling on my computer screen.

However, my Address Book does nothing like this! Anyone know why, or what steps need to be taken? Or is it simply not supported by this phone?

What is the audio / Picture format in the A630

I'm iSyncing I can get the browser window, I can send a file, but I don't know what format the A630 is using so my mp3 files aren't recognized. I sent an mp3, 553KB, and the A630 recieved it, but then said it didn't recognize the file type.

What's the fix? What is the motoral audio file format?

I also can't see any of the pictures in the picture folder in the bluetooth browser window, which is looking in my A630.

Apple G4, 15in, 2.25Ghz Powerbook, Tiger 10.4.4, iSync 2.1.1,

Is your a630 from t-mobile? The a630 is supposed to have a "Java App Loader" app, preinstalled by Motorola, but T-Mobile turns that function off. Nice, eh? I would suggest calling them and asking how to turn it on. If you get a real response, please post to the thread, because I haven't had much success.

Also, the a630 has very little memory. See above in the thread where people have trouble syncing when they have too many pictures on their phone.

I really like the a630 for its keyboard, compactness, and ability to isync (with hack, dnagnabbit). But it is certainly no powerhouse. It has very little RAM, a very weak browser, and so on.

What you are trying to do is probably simply beyond its capabilities. Sorry.

10.4.6 brings us iSync 2.2.... has anyone tried the instructions posted for v2.1.1 yet to see if they still work?

Back to getting the "This device is not supported by isync" message with 10.4.6

What the hell is the deal with still not having this as a listed device in the isync phone list??
ugh after replacing this handset 10 times for battery/bluetooth module issues I'm looking forward to getting a new phone next month. This time I'll make sure it is already supported by isync before I buy it.

So far this is working for me... there were a few changes in the plist verbage that I noticed.

This gave all the correct dialog and began to sync with my phone... If it will correctly sync is still to be determined!?! 350+ contacts and over 3K in my AddressBook have to sync and I'm a bit tired...

Code:
<key>com.motorola.A630</key>
	<dict>
		<key>Identification</key>
		<dict>
			<key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key>
			<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2000"+A630</string>
		</dict>
		<key>InheritsFrom</key>
		<array>
			<string>com.motorola.switchable-usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>
		</array>
		<key>Services</key>
		<array>
			<dict>
				<key>ServiceName</key>
				<string>com.apple.model</string>
				<key>ServiceProperties</key>
				<dict>
					<key>ModelIcon</key>
					<string>MOTA630.tiff</string>
					<key>ModelName</key>
					<string>A630</string>
				</dict>
			</dict>
		</array>
	</dict>

I would copy this into a NEWER version of the plist instead of using the older version OR use the one linked to this post.

IT WORKS... Even cleaned up the renaming thing that was on a few records... "John Doe-1" (from a bad sync)

Thanks for posting this... I didn't get around to upping mine until today (only to discover you had already worked out the syntax).

Anyway, I updated the standing instructions. they now cover iSync 2.0 to 2.2 inclusive. :)
