Ya I watched this video to get a taste of what the EVO is truly like when using it, and its laughable. Honestly thats how I feel. I can't fathom how people even put the two in the same category. Its like night and day. The hardware of the Evo is impressive, but the OS is just flat out hideous inside and out. Top that off with terrible battery life, and you've got a big big paperweight. As far as the iPhone reception issues, I can't relate. I've had 4 to 5 bars every single time I make a call.
I guess since you have good reception then it's just a lie about the issues. I can at least make calls and hold the phone the way I want, and oh yea, the evo has never dropped a call. The battery is fine to me so I don't know what you mean. Plain and simple, the eve is faster and a hell of a lot more functional.

It's still a great phone. More importantly, it's a great OS and after a couple more revisions to make it more polished. I will love it even more. Had my EVO for about 25 days and that screen is amazingly big and wonderful. Not to mention sprint has been great!

But sadly, the iPhone screen was just so awesome that I'm stuck back on iPhone OS......damn you apple.

FaceTime sealed it for me

Every comparison you're making here is Sprint vs. ATT. It's all dependent on the local network.

Your iPhone is useless unless you're on Skype. I can't make mine drop a call when I'm trying, from my basement.
It has nothing to do with the carriers. The evo is faster at processing everything. There both great phones but if I had to chose as of right now, it would be the evo. I went to Kansas city yesterday and 4g really is something. Pulling down almost 5 Mbps is impressive.

You're being completely hypocritical. How you ask? Let me school you. You are insinuating that I MUST be lying about having good reception issues and I am implying that its a non-issue. I could in turn say that you "I guess since you have good BATTERY LIFE then it's just a lie about the issues. Do you see what I did there? GOOD. I'm glad you feel your "eve" is faster and a "he'll" of a lot more functional, but I disagree.

P.S. I do agree the reception issues are a real issue for many, but i'm not one of those affected and therefore love my phone. I'm glad you Android fans have that issue you can bring up because you need it. The EVO is far from perfect. Its a good thing you don't have to put a case on the EVO to fix any issues because then you wouldn't be able to fit it in your pocket.

It just strikes me as odd that they would go through the effort of making that video just to slam a product.
I understand if they have a electronics review part of their newpaper/site (?) and they give something a negative review. Or if reporting on problems with the phone a truthful report stating what's wrong.
David Pogue is the Personal Technology writer for the NY Times, and he writes reviews, has a blog, and does videos. The videos tend to be more casual, and the reviews are more all-encompassing. The blog is a mixture of the two.

He did an in-depth review of the EVO before the video was live.

Im not truing to argue with you or disagreeing with you but I am affected by the antenna issue tremendously. I'm by far a android lover but to ME right now, the evo is better, when or if they fix the iPhone I would probably change my mind but who knows.

Very true, but I must say that was pretty funny. I thought that guy was a salesman the whole time.

I'm a new at$t customer and my first impression isn't a good one.

Is it really that tall of an order to just go buy a case? I realize it isn't right to have to do that, but it will protect your device and make it work. Why are people so against cases?

Thats $10 extra tacked onto the already existing data plan you're gonna have to pay for. They're basically saying its ridiculous to have to pay for 4G when it's probably not even available in your area yet. Did I hurt your big a** phone's feelings? You fail for hanging out in a Macrumors forum patrolling for EVO badmouthing. Well you found it buddy. Do you want me to supply you with more?

What a Great Phone huh?

Cool! I really couldnt care less about the camera and video camera quality. I didnt buy the Evo to shoot photos and videos, that would be plain silly. The speed test was interesting. However, 2.2 is a ton faster than 2.1 so once that gets on the Evo next month, those results will be much different :)

I hear 2.2 will even turn your EVO into a Lawn Mower!

So his main complaints:

- No 4G service in his area, fair point but of course no one else has 4G service anywhere either and it is improving. Currently Sprint/Clear does have pre-launch 4G in parts of LA, SF, NY and Miami, in addition to having several other major cities pretty thorougly covered like Seattle, Las Vegas, Philidelphia, Houston and most other major Texas cities, Washington DC and Portland OR.

- Video calling is harder to configure, again a fair complaint as it really isn't as simple as facetime however it isn't as difficult as they make out. The tradeoff of course being that it works to other devices becides just other EVO's, and over cellular instead of just wifi.
- Poor battery life:
evobattery-4.jpg

I've had no problem making it through a full day even with heavy use and several hours of web browsing.

heavy use = 25% (aka 1/4th) idle standby time? 4% time spent talking? rofl, dude.

Yes a case is a big deal to me. Why cover up such a gorgeous phone with a case? Even a clear one won't do it for me. I tried a bumper and it solve the problem either and I hated it too. I like naked, plain and simple.

lol. NY times defending the iPhone by bashing a superior hardware device? Not surprising considering Apple ALWAYS shows NY Times during their presentations. Gotta stick together, eh?

Besides, WITH the $10 surcharge, the unlimited plan is STILL cheaper than anything ATT can compare to. LOL to that!

Since when did something that requires more than one button click become too hard to configure? Simpletons...

All the Evo lovers are pissed on those videos on YouTube where the phone doesn't perform in real life like it does on paper.

I wish I could make a call on my iPhone without dropping.

Too bad the iPhone doesn't perform in real life as it does on paper. :(

Kind of funny :)

David Pogue is not a respectable writer and The NY Times has been slipping. They have some great journalists, but their editorials are basically becoming unprofessional blogs.

This video is under "Personal Tech" so I would as well chalk it up to just editorial blogging and not actually news.

Anyone claiming that EVO plan is cheaper than iPhone plan is a fanbot.

EVO will cost you $70 + $10 "wicked fast processor" surcharge.

iPhone will cost you $40 + $25 (enough data for 99% of users). Add $5 if you use text messaging (I don't).

Total is $80 vs $65 for iPhone.

I guess EVO users have a bug in their calculator app.

The review didn't even go into the ABYSMAL "720p" movie recording (calling it 720p / HD is a sin because it only does 10 fps in low light). Or the fact that 4G kills your battery like Rambo kills terrorists.
