Silly me. Still enjoying my original iPhone while so many others find fault. There must be something wrong with me....

man all you people do is bitch and bitch and bitch (people like the OP) how about **** and just wait and ull get everything you need, always bitching about something...OP go cry about the no one telling you why apple hasnt implemented some of the things you want on the phone...and you are saying everything is so easy to implement, wrong, it takes time and effort, was it real easy to add some contact search and the app store to the phone? not really, they did it and the OS is still buggy as hell because they pretty much rushed it to get it out by July 11th, imagine how awsome it would be if they decided to put in all the little (and not so little) things that all you bitches want on the phone, not, the OS would prolly be a hell of a lot more buggy, and omg god forbid if that happens, imagine all the bitching....

just shut up and enjoy what is the best phone in the market right now...

Right now you are the one bitching

I've been extremely sour with the new iPhone's shortcommings for a while now, but now I finally get why. Please just hear me out...I'm not bashing it, in fact I love it, A LOT - it's the way it's managed that makes me cringe.

Minutely cracked cases and crashing browsers aside let's face it...the iphone's missing a lot, but we're all blinded by glitz, glamour and strangely hypmotic popularity. As superior as it is, in all the areas that it excels, why can't we "try-before-we-buy" when it comes to the apps, unlike anything I've ever seen there are no tiral periods - if you realize the app doesn't sync right, too bad buy another (but then again it makes iTunes more money). Why is the iphone the only phone that AT&T won't let us tether, why don't we have Live TV or any Orb/Slingbox connection (not even AT&T's own $30 TV service)? And the bluetooth....it's ages behind all the rest when it comes to connectivity, AND I can't use it internationally without a $1400 phone bill! I finally get it now! It's not the problems or the iphone itself that bother me, it's the fact that there's no reasonable explination AND the fact the the iphone EASILY has the potential to fix these "problems" and make it a completely unrivaled phone but they ALWAYS seem to give us just short of perfect with no explination, and I'm pretty sure it's done purposely (I got my masters in marketing)! If Apple could adress all of our issues with reasonable, meaningful answers, that would be more than enough to shut me up, and quick, and I'd have a smile on my face cause I wouldn't feel like I was taken advantage of. But the only motive that can logically be concluded is....more $$$$$$$ Just thinking about what the iphone COULD be is what upsets me the most, why are all the companies out there so damn greedy? Common, your customers are camping out for days and selling out your phones for a solid month - why would you give us anything less than everything you could?

The answer is a lot simpler ... software is hard. An infinite number of software developers working infinite hours could deliver everything we want on iPhone but Apple has to consistently balance new features with stability. We're already upset over the stability now ... yet we keep asking for more features.

How about we lay off and let Apple fix everything first, then deliver the promised additions, then get to the next features on our wishlist, m'kay? Either that, or let's just all spend $1000 on our iPhones and insist that Apple buy up every software engineer on the planet to get it perfect.

You are comparing cars to phones?

I consider it a valid analogy:

- Honda Civic - these "jack of all trade" smartphones some people are apparently in love with
- Trailer hitch - whatever utilitarian feature they can't seem to live without
- Ferrari - the good looking, expensive "brother" to the Honda Civic that has 'less' features

Good. Not sure what exactly it is you're contributing.

You think Apple is going to read this over and think "Oh man! rainmanbk's totally right! Why didn't we included a longer lasting battery in the first place? We so stupid! Editing Word document .. of course! That'll be easy to implement from a no-cursor-UI perspective. Front facing camera ... I knew we should have put all that empty space in the iPhone to better use!"

Most people seem to be willing to sacrifice small stupid things to let the big awesome things work.

Funny coincidence.. Apple just called me and they were saying how they found my thread on Macrumors. They admitted they were stupid for not making the battery last longer. They also said that MobilePages.app and MobileFinder were under heavy development. They said I should expect it with 2.1 Software update. They then appologized for not putting a front camera and including video chat. They promised me next generation they would do that. Just for me. Just for me. Just for me. Just for me.

YOU are SO FREAKING FUNNY cellocello. OMG! I CAN'T STOP LOLING.

Sarcastically picking apart my response is incredibly immature and therefore I figured I'd mock you so you could understand me a little better.

Apple is a company with many people. Committing to a task and getting it done is what companies do. They sit down and say 'ok what features do we need here'. Then they go and develop those features. They make it work. If the things I asked for are so outrageous then Nokia and HTC and all the other companies that make them work must be gods! Nokia, Apple bows before you and your superior abilities. No. We all know Apple is the better company. If another company can do it, Apple can do it better. Look at any any product that is not original to them.

Stop calling me demanding and face the truth. Apple can do better. And they better.

And shut up next time you think you have something funny to say. Don't waste my time.

Stop calling me demanding and face the truth. Apple can do better. And they better.

"And they better", eh? Or else what? You'll get the millions of happy Apple customers to sell their Apple stuff? You'll personally dismantle the company?

And shut up next time you think you have something funny to say. Don't waste my time.

Who's 'wasting' your precious time? You, and no one else.

Apple did the best they could. They released a product they thought they could sell. What do you want from them?! They choose things like a big touch screen over things like a front facing camera (Nokia happened to make the opposite choice). Go on the Nokia forums and demand multi-touch. Sheesh.

Not sure what you're expecting to get from these forums. A pat on the back for having all these great ideas? Should we ALL just sit around and bitch and pat each other on the back?

Hey listen ... put that non-wasted time of yours to good use and make the killer phone that Apple never could.

Yes, how did you guess my plans?

Why in the heck would a 'big touch screen' prohibit them from adding a front camera.

You read my mind. Actually I was commenting on the topic of the thread. Expecting something from a forum is stupid. What do you want for all your tremendous efforts.

Hey listen ... put that non-wasted time of yours to good use and make the killer phone that Apple never could.

Ha, I'll get on that. Gotta put that spare 'electronics factory with full-fledged software department' to good use.

If you think I'm not an Apple fan, you're wrong. I'm a big fan. I always will be. But not blinding following them and never questioning them will never help anyone. I am happy with my iPhone and do not regret buying it. But settling is not an option. No one should ever settle and there will always be something better, and ways to improve a product. Denying that is ignorant.

Maybe you should call back the hounds 'cause I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't care if you defend them.

No one should ever settle and there will always be something better, and ways to improve a product.

Well, yeah .. but that comes with time. And as technology permits.

The iPhone in it's current state wasn't possible 3 years ago, and a really crazy souped up iPhone won't be available for another 3 years (or whatever timeline you want to work with). In the meantime, we get small 'baby steps' of improvement. It's not Apple's fault they're not doing what Nokia's doing. It's not Nokia's fault they aren't doing what Apple's doing. There's only so much a given company can do at a given time.

I'm not attacking you or anything, but man, there's a lot of complaining going on for what many consider the best phone going right now. I'm just happy to not be using my POS Sony phone anymore. What can I say?

You got it 100 percent. I love the iphone, but ut just annoys me that standard functions are omitted from the device for no apparent reason. I cant wirelessly sync my contacts with my computer.....been doing that for years on older devices.....cant use bluetooth stereo headphones on this great ipod. Why...I dont know.
For someone who professes to "love" the iPhone, you seem rather uncharitable in your appraisal. Do you seriously believe these functions were omitted no reason?

Take your example of the bluetooth stereo headphones. If Apple had included this capability, people would have whined even more than they already do about battery life.

I'll bet there's a an arguable justification for every one of the omissions you cite. You may disagree with Apple's choices, but don't pretend there's no rationale for them.

I agree with you. I just don't want Apple to think they can just innovate less and less and expect people to keep buying. We need to tell them how they can improve because that's how change happens! I know as a company they can only do so much, but I guess after watching them unveil the first phone, and seeing what it was, we all expect maybe more than they can deliver. The obvious reason for the not so shocking 3G was that before the first model, Apple had an eternity to develop the device because no know *really* knew it was real. Then after only having a year to completely rework 3G into the phone, and include what they did, they must have ran out of time. I know Apple wants to add more features, and if they could have had more time, I bet they would have. I guess as a consumer who 'wants it all now' it's hard to be patient and realize that a company like that makes tons of money and doesn't mind stretching things out a bit if they can, have to, or want to.

Waiting out this generation, unless my phone explodes. Hopefully next year Apple will unveil a new phone that will deliver on some of the gripes many of us have. Then again I may also buy an E71 to use in addition. "Can have it all? Use 2 phones!" is what I always say.

I don't know how anyone can claim it as the best phone. What do you mean by best, the nicest? The most stable? The best multimedia player? It's definitely the nicest (in my opinion) and the most stable (I think we can all universally agree) but it's definitely not the best multimedia player or feature rich phone and it's def. not THE BEST smartphone out there. Fish around some knowldeged reviews and read about some of the other phones out there, especially those in Japan. I think what you all mean is it's the most popular - but let's face it, Apple is a company that has, if anything, just marketed themselves EXTREMELY well. They are the most succesfully marketed (for profit) company out there, by far! Let's face it, there are a A LOT of Apple fanatics out there - one's that would wait online for 3 days to buy a iphone that's subpar the the first one, just for the simple fact of actually having the newest (and no, I'm not saying this one's subpar). The media also loves to follow them and the near mention of a new product causes a crazy stir, which has only hepled their sales drastically. IMHO, if Apple would have released a product idential to N96 (looks aside) or lets seven say the Xperia (less it's QWERTY), and Nokia and Sony would have released a product identical to the iphone, I really think that Apple's sales still would have set record release figures. And, I'd say 50-70% of Apple's client base would still be calling it the BEST phone out there. I just think it's the most popular, best marketed, most DEPRIVED and most CAPABLE to be the best phone. And by best I'm speaking in the general term of the word.

Agreed, the only thing that the iPhone excels at is the UI. In every other aspect, a WinMo phone is superior. But that's missing the fact that WinMo is a fat, immovable monster that isn't going to change easily, if ever. Which means it's going to forever be a maze of menus and icons. Which is fine if you don't mind that and I don't, for the most part. What I don't like is that HTC and Microsoft really couldn't care less about user feedback. They do what they want and the user be damned. The iPhone has a long, long way to go before it catches up with WinMo in nearly every aspect. Background processing? Don't think so. Slingplayer? Not any time soon. Tethering? Maybe if you're willing to hack your phone. But, just like OS X, it's considerably more nimble and more open to change based on customer feedback and therefore offers the most promise for the future. Where does that feedback come from? People complaining about the lack of features. There's a lot of things I'd like to see in the iPhone. Soon. Copy/paste, MMS, much better multimedia support...the list is fairly long. If you think the iPhone is wonderful and greatest phone ever made, great. More power to you. But there's a long line of people who want to see it improved considerably and fast.

P.S. Personally, I'd consider my Blackberry 8800 to be MUCH more stable than the iPhone. It's never once crashed, nor has an app on the 880 crashed. Since launch, Safari alone has crashed at least a half dozen times and mail 2 or 3 times. That's even considerably worse than my last WinMo phone.

"Implement solutions, not features." This is an overriding philosophy behind the iPhone. It is stressed quite hard by John Geleynse, Director of Technology Evangelism at Apple in his "User Interface Design for iPhone Applications" video. Apple has consciously chosen not to make the iPhone just a checklist of features. If you add every feature including the kitchen sink but don't put any effort into how they interact or provide solutions to the end user, you end up with a phone that is like so many others already out there: a mish-mash of features that has everything but doesn't do anything overly well.

I dont think the OP is complaining about high end stuff. I think he is talking about the lack of basic stuff and functions that other less advanced phones already have and that the iphone is lacking. One example, no video camera. How can the lack of this be even explained on such a high end device.

The video cameras in all the other cell phones suck, why would Apple want to out a video camera into the phone only so that it can take equally crappy video as a Razor? Personally I wouldn't have minded if the left out the camera.

If other phones have such great features buy one and stop whining.

Hype and all aside, this phone has proven to be a step from whatever I had before. I mean, MMS is not really that important to me since most of the people I send pics of videos are not in the same country I live in and I prefer putting it on MobileMe or send and email, the lack of video never bothered me cause if I want to take a video of something I make sure I have a good HD camera and not a cellphone (learned that the very first time I shot a video with a cellphone, years ago). Apps crashing and other softwares complaints really don't bother me since I experience the same (or similar) kind of problems in my Mac or any other computer, or any phone for that matter (try to use youtube on a MotoQ and see how MediaPlayer just crashes). Those things are expected when you buy products like these; if you buy it, you should know what you're paying for.

On the other hand, the call quality is a lot better that what I had, the intergrated video+audio stuff is a lot better and everything a lot easier to use (and a lot more good looking), which encourages me to at least keep an eye on what I have to do.

I like my phone and I don't mind the little wrinkles here and there; prefer to look at all the good things (and cross my fingers so that some nuisances get fixed pronto ;))

I don't know how anyone can claim it as the best phone. What do you mean by best

I will claim it as the best.

For me, the email part is EXTREMELY easy to use, simple to set up, and reliable for the most part.

The iPod is extremely useful when going to places and/or convenience

The internet searching is just lights years ahead of my last phone and having used my brother-in-laws Blackberry, I found no real advantage to the Blackberry's internet usage.
