to all of you guys who don't "get it" this has some practicality behind it.

Watch this video of the same store and look how many people showed up for the iP4. Guarantee he won't be one of the ones at the back sucking wind come friday especially when if they sell out after 1/4th of the line has gone through.

I don't have to be first

Now,
If you said there were already 50 people in line I might start getting a little worried.

This is just crazy. The sad of the matter is the first guy online, on his matchbook, already has a 4/4S - he can't wait or just order online. I waited a month after the 4S was released just to avoid the rush.

I would never be a slave to a product.

Do they have security during the night? Somebody could easily rob them

*never* understood this when you can just pre order for delivery on release day!? Attention seekers...

To each their own, but yeah, don't judge by it's cover. These people may be getting money to camp out, or selling the devices way over MSRP to prospective customers for a profit.

- Two 32GB iPhone 5's $598.00
- Potential sale price $2000, resulting profit $1402
- 168 hours in line to earn said profit, $8.34 an hour

Financial msterminds there not.
There publicity whores. No one's waiting in line for a week to make a few extra bucks.

You'll probably find that the people in line right now are being PAID to be there as that IS part of their job.
They are most likely to work for tech websites/media and/or journalists.

The idea that the only couple of options most people can think of (either bunking work or have no job) is absurd.

What do these people do for work that affords them the luxury to waste an entire week just to wait for a phone? Any sane, and rational personal would surely preorder.

Seeing that only 60% work and the rest are living off our tax dollars it is not hard to imagine. It is nice to know that they are making enough, on the dole, they can afford a iphone! Likely obama is pay for their "plan" as it is for ":emergency purposes only"

Some people on here are so unbelievably dim.
I'm actually, genuinely, surprised that some of you are capable of operating a computer and navigating the internet so that you can bash the keys long enough to try and squeeze out whatever half formed thoughts have developed like fungus in your tiny minds.

The 5th ave store, being the flagship store, gets 1000s of iPhone on launch day. I know because for every other iPhone I went there on launch day. The line is ridiculous every single year and they meet the demand of everyone that goes.

This is very interesting though.

Felt like he was being a tad bit of a jerk to have "First in Line for the iPhone 5" as if that wasnt blatently obvious lol.

I could see him now getting stand-ins while he goes to find food or use the rest room. Easy for him to make friends to hold him down in line.

Me personally.. I would pitch a tent.
