My Mac has changed the way I felt about computers a lot.
When I used Windows, I liked browsing the web and chatting and editing photos, videos etc., but I never really liked using the computer itself.

Now, with my Mac, just using it, whatever I'm doing makes me feel better. I like it. I like the way it looks, it works, the way it does things. Also, I now do a lot of more things I didn't ever think about on Windows.
Right now, even if all I did was surfing the web and chatting, I would still use a Mac.

And it's a sensation which is persistent, durable through the years. I think that the OP should try it by themselves some time.

Since you identified yourself as a web-browsing, email-checking, music-listening user, I'd say a low-end Mac mini would be ideal, if you were to get a Mac. I don't know where people get the idea that Macs are just for video editing.
This might be a good idea if the OP wants to try out a mac and already has a monitor. You can pick up an older mini on sale for around $500 or less (I saw one at Fry's for $400 the other day). When you consider the resale value, it would really be an inexpensive way to try a mac. The mini has more than enough power for email/movies/internet/music...as a bonus you get a machine that's quiet and takes up very little space.
