works both ways

As a mater of principle, not one person should ever purchase any thing samedung manufactures.

On the other hand, one might decide as a matter of principle to buy none of the Chinese-made goods from the fruit company that refuses to license and pay for the technology that it uses.

My home is Apple-free, and has a 60" Samsung TV and several Android devices from Samsung.

Once the injunction was made formal, Apple could pretty easily just pull the iphone4 and ipad2 on the assumption there are new devices on the horizon which would replace these (e.g. LC iphone). The problem would be if Samsung wanted to go back and collect royalties / fees from all sales of these devices.

As an aside, I love reading (especially on other news sites) the same people who destroy apple over their lawsuits, standing up for this as what is "right". Inconsistency is one of my favourite things.

As so many have said - nobody wins from these, except the lawyers who get rich and get to have intellectual "mine is bigger" contests.

Getting a kick outta watching all the ifans get up in arms over this. Apple made their bed now it's time to lie in it.

Looks comfy.

So that works in reverse - when Samsung and Google want to play that game?

The issue is, you can buy a cheap phone with the same technology in it for about the same price that Apple would have to pay Samsung just to licence 1 part at their 2.4% of sale price. That is hardly reasonable.

Equally at 2.4% of the finished item Samsung is asking for a 2.4% cut of Apples IP and everyone else's IP. So if we were to value IOS at $200 then Samsung is asking for $4.80 of Apples property, something they have no right to.

Samsung SHOULD be paid, but as a percentage of the final product price, no.

Who is next, the music studios saying that each track should be priced according to how much your stereo/MP3 player costs ?
Or how about fuel companies charging based on the cost of your car ?

So as I say, if they want to play percentage games then you charge $1 for the hardware and they can have their 2c worth. Their alternative it to charge a fixed fee of $X which is the same for everyone, which meets all the requirements of FRAND.

What I never get is why people come on this forum to just post nothing but this drivel, I come on this forum as I like Apple and their products I also like products by other companies too, Samsung do make good TV's, and I am aware they also build buildings, washing machines etc.

I would never go on a Samsung forum and post just to annoy people as I have a life and have better things to do with my time, plainly you don't.

Most of those Apple devices targeted by the ban are nearly 2 generations old.

The haters will proclaim that "Apple is doomed!" because of the ruling. Reality says that it will barely make a dent in their sales.

Well the Samsung fans have worthless Samsung-centric or Android-centric forums to go to. They have unproductive and unappealing user communities. So they go right here, to the heart of the Apple user community. And they might as well troll while they're here.

I'm curious if you were this vocal when Apple was suing Samsung for making tablets with rounded edges and black borders? Were you for Apple doing this or against Apple doing this?

Why are you now FOR Samsung doing something that you scolded Apple for? Looks very hypocritical.

Yes, every time I saw a nonsensical post form an ADF (Apple Defense Force) member, I spoke up. Just as I did here. ;)

The fact you avoided the question is very telling.

Samsung was on the defensive for years and is fed up. It's not hypocritical at all. If a kid at school is constantly getting picked on, he isn't in the wrong to stand up to said bully. This is no different and it's down right idiotic to claim that kid is "not any better than the bully" for standing up for himself.

But I wouldn't expect an avid "apple enthusiast" such as yourself to grasp this concept.

The fact is that the two cases in question here are completely different. I can't believe people are comparing the two ... I'm not going to defend Apple on this CDMA encoding/decoding apparatus, because I don't know enough about it nor do I really care.

What I would like to know is; did Samsung actually create this device/patent, or have they purchased it through acquiring a separate company who never cared in the first place?

This is where I draw my moral line.

Just got a Galaxy S4 and in all honesty it makes the iPhone look like a kids toy.

If you haven't tried one then you really should. It genuinely is a far superior product and doesn't need to rely on smart marketing for features similar to Siri which frankly don't even work.

Korea > USA

Really? I own an S3, S4 and Nexus 4 for experimentation and comparative purposes. I can say that, without a doubt, neither come close to the iPhone 5 in polish, speed or usability. The S4 has one, and only one feature, that I've found to be useful that the iPhone lacks, and that's answering a call by gesturing above the phone while I'm eating. In every single other area or category, it and the others fall short of my iPhone 5 (not to mention the grotesque standard of supposedly 'popular' apps on the Android app marketplace).

Scrolling high detail photos and PDFs lag lag on these Android devices, for crying out loud. And you think that the S4 comes close to the iPhone 5, or even beats it? Only a child that oohs and awes over a bigger screen could make such an assessment; it offers a saliently inferior experience to my 4S ffs. I guess Korea > USA in the same way Argentina > UK, or Barbarians > Roman Empire etc.

btw, Siri works fine for me in most instances. Try enunciating.

See what happens when you muck around with consumer electronics instead of making computers. ;)

Just another day in tech.

S3 = skateboard (albeit a soft, plastic one)

S4 = surfboard (albeit a soft, plastic one)

Note II = too large to be a usable phone, too small to be a TV

With the rate at which Samsung are increasing Galaxy screen sizes, they're soon not going to need to sell TVs any more, since the screens will be almost the same size!

"Hey, look - I can write my name on the screen with the stylus, from an inch above the surface, and the software will recognise my handwriting and dial the contact I wrote..."

All that technology and potential for great things, utterly squandered and redundant, all wrapped up in a nice metallic plasticine casing... :'(

PS: AMOLED is *still* immature, and STILL a gimmicky excuse for selling more Galaxy phones. Is it a coincidence that Samsung make the panels and push them on their handsets? I think not.

AHAHAHAHAHAAAA....

Samsung is defensive?

Samsung did this "Let's steal someone elses ideas and sell it a bit cheaper" thing for YEARS!

Their cellphones looked like Nokias when Nokia was the coolest thing in town, Blackberry became the new hit? Samsung BlackJack.

Whenever something new and profitable appears on the market - Samsung evaluates if they can clone it.

And if they can, they will do it.

They are ruthless, because they are quasi ruling South Korea (Their revenue is 17% of SKs GDP and they bribe officials) and are earning so much money that they can buy the "Get out of jail free" card if their copying other products gets noticed.

So if you want a comparison with kids at school - Samsung is not the poor little shy guy who's being bullied - Samsung is the bully who regularly beats up the shy guys and even members of the football team but get's away with it, because his mom is ban...ing the principal!

You do know there's an alternative section on this forum and he's most likely a former Apple user like myself.

So you're telling me former Apple users (who supposedly all switched to Samsung) still come back to leave negativity in an Apple based forum? Woah....

I never said the kid being bullied was little ;) quite the contrary, and now Apple is paying the price for their own frivolousness of law suits past.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a current Apple user and think Apple brought this onto themselves and it was deserved. I like their products but hate their politics.

Agreed I never see anyone else promoting any other company, I don't have any problem if people like other products, we all do but these few people sit at home in their anoraks living their sad life, and can only be happy when they're pi**ing people off

I'm curious if you were this vocal when Apple was suing Samsung for making tablets with rounded edges and black borders? Apple got a taste of their own medicine and rightfully so.

It was never about making tablets with rounded edges and black borders, this is such a gross over simplification as to be worthless.
