Hey all, I have a question

Whenever I try opening iTether on my iPhone, it immediately crashes. I tried restarting my iPhone multiple times and that does not help. What do I do now? Im worried that if I delete it from my iPhone that it will be lost forever. When I plug my iPhone into my Mac and look under the apps category it is not there (but other recently installed apps aren't there either?) So I am really at a loss of what to do right now.

Michael, thanks for at least trying to help, no one else has even attempted to give us few users with this problem a chance. Unfortunately for me, this is still not helping. Downloaded the file multiple times and still no luck. Emailed tether to no avail. Just getting p/o'd that no one else has a clue whats up with this situation or seems to care.

One more time guys, when opening the tether app on the mac, a handful of us are getting 'The application Tproxy unexpectedly quit"

and then we can go no further.

Can someone else at least attempt to help out with this?

thanks.

I was having this same problem repeatedly and was getting frustrated that it was working for everyone but no solutions for us Tproxy folks.

But then I found a short post further up this thread where someone mentioned they were having the same problem, redownloaded the Mac app (as when they downloaded it the first time, right when the iOS app was released, the Tether servers were overwhelmed and it didn't fully download), reinstalled the Mac app and it worked.

So I just went back to the Tether site, redownloaded the Mac app, reinstalled it, and fired the app on the iPhone first, then the MBP (running Leopard, BTW), and it connected instantly! And it's fast! And I'm typing this through the Tether connection right now.

Hope this helps those who might not have solved this problem yet.

Michael

Does anybody know if there is anyway of still being able to get this app? I wanted to get it but couldn't till it was to late, dang it!!!

Proxy Issues

I would suggest maybe it's a proxy conflict. My error was not TProxy, but the Mac app crashed on launch. I traced it to a proxy conflict. I run Printopia which is another proxy. Tether works great as long as disable Printopia first, which I don't need away from the office anyway.

Good luck,

Razz

i was one of the few who bought itether during that window period when it was available via the app store. it worked intermittently the first few weeks -- chalked it up to sprint, poor connection and buggy software.

i just stopped using it for a while because it just didn't work at all.

now months later, i tried again just now since i'm sitting outside on a nice summer day without nearby wifi -- and boom, it works! pretty decent speed too.

Yeah, on vacation MyWi stopped working, so I went to iTether (had it from when I was running on a not-yet-Jailbroken iOS,) and it worked great.

Ok guys im in a kinda tight spot and need some guidance. Local power company "Entergy" in new orleans is doing upgrades after the last hurricane fiasco and im without power quite often, so no cable model, i bought the tether app but that phone was lost i have a new iphone now but the app doesnt show up in my purchase history any more as it did on my old phone. Someone had emailed me the .ipa days after the app launched and was shut down, so i tried using that, but apparently embedded in their is his itunes username, because it asks me to enter the password for a different account entirely than any of mine. Anyway to obtain the app file without an attached username, how do i go about getting whats mine here, the only reason i didnt ask for a refund all that time ago was that i figured i got what i paid for, i still got to use it and access to it, but now my ability to redownload it has disappeared. What do i do. Please dont suggest going to another carrier, paying the same company for their web based service, jailbreaking, or changing my data plan to one that allows tethering, none of that advice is needed or possible for me at this moment in time. Thanks in advance to the community for any help.

Restoring...

Hello PPfee. (1) This probably does not help you, but yesterday I used JuicePhone v2.4 on Mac to extract files out of an iTunes device backup made on a different Windows computer. (2) Do you have a device backup which contains the tether app that you could restore onto your new iPhone? (3) AFAIK, once an app gets pulled from the App Store, you can no longer download it again. (4) Surely The Google must contain a way to restore an app on a non-jailbroken iPhone which was purchased under a different Apple ID? Do you only have the ipa file, or do you have the whole folder? (5) I've found PhoneView to be a great app for getting data off, but again, not answering your original question. Anyhow, good luck...

Thanks, ive got it done now. I found an old backup in the iCloud that had the app in it. I used ifunbox app for mac to extract the app, all the data, and save both just the app and an installable .ipa apparently, restored the phone to factory, clicked the install from mac button in ifunbox and it appeared on my iphone and most importantly the app actually worked and wasnt asking me for someones credentials. I will also look into the app you suggested. Thanks alot.
Most importantly, after a sync with iTunes it merged the apps and itether (which is actually just tether, never was itether) is back in my apps list and is managed with iTunes...beautiful. w/ LTE i wont miss my home internet a bit....air conditioning on the other hand im missing

I did want to say , even though they pulled it, there was a period where it showed up for me in my app store "purchased" section and i could still download it from there. Obviously that didnt last very long though.

Contact Tether?

Have you tried contacting tether.com and possibly they can give you a discount on the new offering they have in lieu the loss of the original? Or you can just purchase the new offering and it should address your problem.

Thanks. I specifically said Please dont suggest paying the company for the web based tethering service, but thats alright ;) I have a few major issues with them, their company is very childlike, the customer service manages to be either terrible or superb and sometimes both at the same time. I actually notified the company and their twitter presence when they started breaking records in the app store and sent them screen shots and the guy gave me this big spiel about how he was going to give me a free license and send me a tether t-shirt, none of which i asked for, but i accepted graciously. So they were pulled shortly after but by no means a struggling company, they were the highest grossing app in no time, which equals filthy rich, and they have been quite succesful selling the service on blackberry platforms for quite a while. Anyway they've toyed around with me since then, saying they were sending the shirt multiple times but not, ignoring me like a child, giving me invalid service vouchers to use the web based service. They wont get a dime from me until they send me the free crap they promised or just simply man up and say look for whatever reasons, we arent going to send you the shirt or the free software license we promised you, **** off. But this game playing pisses me off.

Sorry i ddint want to go into all that which is why i said please dont suggest i pay the company for the web based service. But if you had read my last reply, you would have also seen that i said ive got it all straightened out, i wound up with two methods available to rescue me. 1st i found a icloud backup, not in iTunes, in iCloud, from my old 4s and restoring to that had my tether app available. From there i was able to plug into itunes, hit backup, and then hit sync and merge the apps and all so that i was able to restore to factory again, this time set up as new device ( i didnt want to restore from the 4s) and just have itunes send all my apps over, including the tether app.
The other method if you have no backups, is that you can use a mac app called iFunBox, which is a file explorer of sorts. With that you can load any version of tether off the internet onto your iPhone, even someone elses or a cracked version, regardless of whether you can run the app because it asks for someone elses itunes credentials, just leave it installed. Run iFunbox, and you can both save the tether app itself to ur computer and also save an installation fie for tha app that strips all personal data such as usernames and such so that you can then delete the version you have on your phone, and again using ifunbox and the install file you just created, click install from the ifunbox toolbar (after having selected the tether.ipa) and it will install the app fresh and new onto your iPhone, no jailbreak required, which may be the best thing about it all. Anyway thanks for the tips from the community.

Swag! Nice!

Sad over SWAG, but I guess I'm lucky I keep track of my apps and backup! ;) Works great with iphone5 and LTE. Good luck and hope you get your free T-Shirt, Cap or whatever will make you happier!

Haha, yea i got mine all straightened out, had a backup in the cloud and found a few emergency methods too.
Man i was exhausted when i typed that up this morning, it feels like a dream, i dont care about the freaking t-shirt, i do care about people/companies, behaving respectfully and either living up to their promises or grabbing ahold of their little testicular pouch of strength and saying what needs to be said, in this case "i promised you something i cant deliver". Either way will work, but until then im just going to keep asking where my free **** is that they promised, it feels apparent the same guy who offered that stuff to me....promised it to me, took my adress and all that, is the same guy who is still running the twitter customer service for the company today, its clear just based on the initial replies based on the radio silence treatment he uses. Anyway, it doesnt bother me, but each time i see a tweet from them on my TL i remind them.
thanks for all the help guys.

BTW, i got a text from ATT today for reaching close to the 5gb im allowed under my unlimited GB plan, once i got tether working i downloaded about 2.5 gigs just last night from a torrent of a disc image i needed, much faster than my home internet would have been. In my area, ATT LTE peaks to higher than VZW, about 65 vs. 45-50 respectively, but i think verizons LTE is more steady, i did about 25 speed tests on verizons and got 32~ every damn time, and on my att one in the same store i usually got about the same, usually a little higher by about 10mbps, but there were a few tests where mine went down to only 15 and verizon was getting 30 still. anyway

Just found this forum and thread.

I have an iphone 4s(verizon) ipad, and ipod touch wifi only and a wi fi laptop windows 7 computer.

Will this tether program work, with all of the above? I generally carry the ipad because of medical programs loaded, to work. It's smaller and more compact than the laptop.

We will be going on an extended holiday trip this year, and some relatives will not have internet service, so I would like laptop connection for e mail, and a bit of surfing also.

I want to get something set up and tested in the next couple of months, before we go.

Anyone else making use of iTether during this storm? No power in the house but I made sure to fully charge my MacBook Air before it went out. I must say iTether is a godsend for moments like this! Especially with AT&T unlimited data. :D

Yea, not during this storm, but i did that here in New Orleans in the last couple months when we were hit by that little Cat 1 hurricane or tropical store, i forget which it was, but with no power it was indeed a godsend, even on my iphone 3g, it was great, hell i've even used my T-mobile Blackberry 9700's tethering function, with my ATT Sim card (which keeps me maxed out at EDGE speed) and even that during a time with no electricity is a godsend. The only thing i hate about iTether, and i guess its both their faults and apples, is that Link goes bad after a certain amount of time or data, and its not very long or very much, and you wind up having to reset the program or unlpug and replug it, none of which is a huge deal, unless you happen to be trying to download something & depending on what & where your DL'ing from you often wont have the option to restore where it left off, but anyway i digress, yes its all a godsend.

One other neat little trick i will share that i've picked up year after year of Power outages from Hurricanes and tropical storms, if you have DSL and one of the Battery Backup Power Strips, you can still use your highspeed internet for a short period of time , I just run nothing but the modem and router off the power strips battery backup, it wont last foreer, its designed to give you a few minutes of PC usage to allow you to shut down your computer safely, but will power a modem for quite a bit longer.

Anyone still using this? I have it saved on my phone and not sure whether to bring it onto iOS 9. I haven't used this in a while.
