Sorry for my newbie question... I just switch to iPhone from Android. If your iPhone is not jailbroken, once you download the app from "elsewhere" (I missed the app on Apple store)... how do you upload it to the iPhone?

You can't, apple, not you, decides what you are allowed to do with and what your allowed or not allowed to put on your phone.

Mac App Crashes

Has anyone figured the Mac app crashes out yet?

I have rebooted, reinstalled and asked it nicely, with no luck. The iOS app launches fine, and mostly shows as registered (really odd to call home every launch). The Mac app launches, connects and dies. No amount of reboots has solved it. I am on Snow Leopard still, but I had seen tweets of Leopard users having the issue too, so it doesn't appear OS related.

Razz

Does anyone know if you update your OS in the future or sync this app if Apple deletes it from your phone? I have not found anything in searches.

Thanks

This app is FREAKING AMAZING! So easy to use. Just open the app on the iPhone and open the app on your Mac and you are automatically connected. I'm not sure why everyone else is having problems with crashing. I have an iPhone 4S with the latest iOS and a 2011 MacBook Air with the latest OS X Lion updates on it and I have no problems.

The app also tells you how many MB you've downloaded so far. No wonder carries have such problems with unlimited data plan abusers. Some websites are 3MB per webpage!

Why do I need such app if I can share the iphone internet anywhy just with USB cable and enable personal hotspot???

Would you people read the whole thread already. US customers have to pay extra to use the built in hotspot on top of our data plan.

Read the thread and stop asking the same question that's already been answered numerous times.

I'm having a problem getting this started...

I have a 4S and a MBP running Lion...

I open the app on the phone and the Mac, USB is plugged in. The phone says "waiting for connection" and the Mac says "could not locate the iPhone device"

Anyone else get this?

I think the carriers should be blamed, not Apple.

In other parts of the world, many people can enjoy unlimited data + free tethering at a flat rate per month

Apple probably wanted it to happen so bad and screw those service providers. I'm betting one of them raised a big stink and finally apple caved. I get Apple hates them. Imagine how many more phones they'd sell if American providers weren't customer-loathed slugs.

Siri, the app.

That wasn't the kill switch. Apple bought the app and then pulled it. And they did that to release a version of it that is infinitely better. Given, they did leave out anyone not on a 4S and that is kind of a dick move. I agree its similar, but it's not the kill switch.

Siri, the app.
That was the backend server support not the kill switch. That would be more akin to the maker of iTether shutting down the license check server(s), effectively rendering iTether useless. That was what Apple did as the owner of the servers the old Siri was using. There was also advanced notice given.

Great!

This works quite well for just surfing the net. If you missed the boat and you're on a jailbroken phone just get it on installous (it's up) or use tetherize or tetherme available on cydia.

my results with just 3 bars of service

Works great. Love that I can setup Internet sharing on my MBP then use my wifi iPad. So glad I bought the app. Just hope they can figure out a way to get rid of the server verification even though apple pulled it.

How do you sync your iPhone to iTunes in order to backup the app? I tried connecting it and it kept telling me it will overwrite my iPhone with the apps on my Mac (which doesn't have iTether so it will obviously erase it).

Well you never synched apps before that is why that is happening. So now if you synch it WILL delete it.

What you need to do is get ahold of the iTether IPA and drag it into iTunes. It will install just fine if you purchased it. I wanted to have it on my Air to be safe but it was too late to download from app store. So I copied it from my other mac and dragged and dropped it into iTunes on my Air. You can do the same if you just get the IPA. The IPA is not the same as the app as it exists on the iPhone, but had you already been synching apps via iTunes it would have asked you if you wanted to transfer purchased from the iPhone to iTunes (that would create the IPA).

If you have iTunes you should at least turn on app synching even if you don't intend to use it much. It would have prevented your situation.

But isn't the whole point of being able to activate your iPhone without a computer so there wouldn't be problems syncing in the future? What happens to all the people who set up the phone without a PC, and 1 year later buy a PC? There wasn't a solution devised by Apple considering PC-free was a major feature of iOS 5?

How do you drag the IPA? Just open the iPhone in my Finder? Thanks.

Edit - Actually now that I think about it, I synced the iPhone with my MacBook Air and reformatted the Air with a fresh copy of OS X Lion so now I think my iPhone sees it is synced with another computer. So how do I fix this?

Can someone share what the settings under network preferences for this connection is? Mine won't connect and I keep getting a notification the "the application tproxy quit unexpectedly"

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Seriously, this is annoying. Exact problem on my end.

I spent almost and hour to read through all these pages and noticed there are about 4-5 posts about this problem but no one has answered it or even attempted to. Does anyone have any idea what this might mean? Really would love some guidance or help in anyway whatsoever.

thank you.

for anyone late to this, as soon as loading the app on the imac, mb, etc it says "the application tproxy quit unexpectedly" and then obviously does not allow the app to work. Even though the app on the phone says 'registered' and is ready to go.

Just knowing there's someone else out there... just like me... Well, I don't feel so alone anymore! Come on all you tproxy problem having people, lets huddle around the "I just spent $15 on an app, but something called a tproxy, which I have no clue about, is preventing me from feeling good about shelling out that $15" fire, together.

I had the same problem, what happened was itethers site was getting hammered and the file wasnt downloading properly because of it even though it said finished. I fixed it by re-downloading the file.

That is a different discussion. But that is how it currently works. There is still a workaround though.

You cannot get the IPA off of the iPhone directly. Even if you were jailbroken and could access the filesystem the app would be in .app format not IPA.

Since you are not jailbroken and the only way you can run this app is if you purchased it I don't see it as a problem if you were to get ahold of the IPA from someone else who bought it. Once you have that just drag and drop it into the Apps section in the Library section of iTunes (in the side bar).
