DAMN!!! I got it with out checking for iPad compatability... Aughhhh I can't switch back to unlimited (via ebay) bc I will lose the hotspot.

15.00 down the drain....

Its my own fault. I should have read it first. Maybe some day I'll get a 3g iPad and it will come in handy.... aughhhhh

Not to be rude but what's the point of your post? If you're on wifi, why tether? Use wifi. Tethering is 99% used for tethering a laptop or other device that is not near a wifi source, to a CELL source that has data. That's what you should be testing.

To show the speed difference. I would have included a cell test, only I couldn't get the app to start while I had WiFi disabled on the iPhone.

Also, there are certain instances where you can get WiFi free on the iPhone, but *NOT* on a laptop (for example, when connected to one of AT&T's commercial WiFi hot-spots.) This app will let you share that (theoretically) faster WiFi signal with your laptop.

Try reading the 5+ pages of comments here - it is likely not a scam. It worked until their servers got overloaded with all the new users and, pardon my french, but all the idiots immediately doing speed tests.

The speed tests shouldn't have any effect, it only verifies with the servers. I.e. it doesn't pass all data through their servers.

Finally got it downloaded and running after 30minutes of trying. It works folks!!!

For someone that has it working please try this:

Get iTether working with your Mac (ie you can surf through your phone on 3G).

Now go into SystemPreferences->Sharing on your Mac and turn on Internet Sharing "from" Wi-Fi "to computers using" "Ethernet Adaptor" (which I believe is the "virtual adaptor" that Tether installed).

This should theoretically allow you to share your iPhone internet connection using Wifi through your Macbook....

ie this would allow you to use a WiFi iPad by connecting it to your Macbook to have the internet come through your phone...

How do you discriminate which signal to tether over?

yep it does work.
Now I am just curious to see how long will this work. I am sure tomorrow Apple will be all over this and the carriers pissed off. Anyway, at least $15 is not the end of the world.

Do a speedtest. In my experience, free wifi usually blows and is around 1mbps down, especially at att/starbucks hotspots.

Just got it working on a second phone and am posting through iTether!

It's free if jailbroken.
Who buys ***** anymore?

Some of us are actual, honest adults and pay for others' hard work.

Edit: I purchased this and purchased MyWi on Cydia. So even when I do jailbreak, I *gladly* pay for software. If you pay for these authors' hard work, they will keep making wonderful software.

Perhaps you are not serious. What you say it's free, it is really the five finger discount. I mean, it is stealing. I guess most people who go to a supermarket still buy things. Obviously there are thieves who steal in supermarkets too.

Now that I got it up and running, this does work fairly well. No backgrounding on the app is a bummer but can't win them all. If you look at the companies twitter feed, they seemed to have eluded this was coming. They are obviously confident that they have a legitimate work around to not be pulled. So maybe will see even more/better versions of whatever this workaround is (apparently involving USB).

Ooops - I had from / to backwards there.

But I just tried this and I can't seem to get my iPad to link up with my Macbook Pro. Anyone else want to give it a try?

1) Are there going to be updates (stability-wise, etc) on this app? If so, how are we supposed to get that update if Apple pulls it from the store?

2)
Netshare worked for a surprisingly long time. I can't ever get it to work anymore, however. Hopefully this thing will have a long life too.
Theoretically, won't it work forever if we didn't update our Iphones? Or are Iphone updates mandatory?

3) Since our phones need to dial into iTethers servers, all AT&T has to do is block all outgoing signals to that specific server. What are the chances of them doing this?

Working here. Turned off wifi, ran speedguide.net, and blazin through. Was seriously contemplating JB'n the phone when I accidentally deleted HandyLight.

suppose its good for you Americans, but do you even get unlimited data? I'm on 3 in the UK on the one plan and the data is called all-you-can-eat there is no fair usage policy at all and that also includes tethering from my 4S free of charge to any device all for £35.00 a month get 2000 min, 5000 text, 5000 three to three min, so worth it.
